JAPANTHEREat Like Lisa Act Like Bart from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Japanther is the music and art project of Matt Reilly and Ian Vanek, who joined forces in 2001 and have taken on multitude of creative endeavors since. Known for their unconventional live performances, the band has appeared alongside synchronized swimmers, atop the Williamsburg Bridge, with giant puppets and marionettes, in the back of a moving truck in Soho, and at shows with giant dinosaurs and BMX bikers flying off the walls. Having released over a dozen albums in the past decade, Japanther is back with a new LP, Eat Like Lisa Act Like Bart, for Recess Records. Eat Like Lisa Act Like Bart opens with the upbeat “Do Not Resuscitate,” with layers of buzzing guitar, shimmering synth and regimental percussion. “The Drums Deliver” is braced by a steady drum beat and driven by a wandering vocal line that leads to a sing-along chorus. “Green Spray Paint” features a toe-tapping rhythm beneath distorted vocals, while “125th and Riverside” is a slower jam that trades in fuzzy guitars for bouncy piano accompaniment. Album track “Stolen Flowers” is a short, melodic cut with fuzzed-out guitars and a driving beat, giving listeners a taste of the band’s signature punk rock-infused sound.

WHITE NIGHTProphets of Templum from Recess Records/45 RPM Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Being buddies from right around the bend,I've known me some White Night for many years now. I must admit that they had me scratching my head trying to figure out their aim. I think, with this recording, they found it. It's one weird ass bullseye! I'm super happy and proud to release this gem! Some songs would fit supremely on the Beach Blvd compilation, and i'm not just saying that based on geography. Although that can be argued. A lil' Sparks comparison never hurt anyone neither. Descendents ride the wild and I Don't Wanna Grow up comes to mind too. Fuck, even Steely Dan!! If being aimless leads to this then piss on aim. Split release with 45rpm records (two labels. same block!) (Ex- Adolescents, Drinkers Purgatory, Shred Savage & Pterodactdudes.)

ARRIVALSMarvels of Industry from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

"I was excited as all hell when one of my favorite bands, not only my favorite of all active bands but one of my favorites of all time, asked me to do their next album, but i can compare the initial excitement to a piece of hamster pie when i set it next to how i felt when i first heard the master to this album! I had unforgiving goosebumps for 3 weeks straight! I dunno how to say this without sounding like a used car salesman but THERE IS NO FILLER ON THIS ALBUM! One might think the track "Why you talk all shitty?" might fall under that umbrella but once they turn it up a bit and realize that it is a question that needed to be asked years ago then they will understand what kinda record they have just stumbled upon. Super proud of this one!" - Todd/Recess

  ARRIVALSVolatile Molotov from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Modern intelligence ain't really much to write home about. The sad thing is that it doesn't take much to NOT be a total dumbshit in this climate. I think, more than I probably should, to myself "Why aren't The Arrivals the biggest band in the world?!". They write some of the greatest songs with some of the best hooks ever. The lyrics to these masterpieces are, gulp, er, actually intelligent. Not just exclusively book intelligent, and not just street smarts neither. I guess something vital and relevant for and by 30-something punks that can translate and inspire anyone at any age. And I'm not talking about "Rectospective granulator cosmopheric ramulator" shit, but stuff we can all understand like THE END's "You may anticipate the end With great devotion You may worship and defend a source to every motion". It gives me goosebumps because I know what Isaac Thotz is talking about and the hook is easily appetizing. What I'm saying here is that I don't need to be pumped up with watered down political sloganeering for 12 year olds. "Volatile Molotov" includes paranoia, desperation, and even some humor. 3 great ingredients for an album. If anyone is listening, I wanna be buried with a copy of this album! Black vinyl copy will be just fine. So it could be that we don't know how to sell records, or people are just too stupid. Or maybe both. Should we tell 'em to just dumb it down? It's not like they are unaware of the fact that rock'n'roll, itself, is a dumb thing to be involved in. They could get career-type jobs and move on. They collectively and individually have done some dumb stuff. And like The Beatles did with Ringo, they even let Ronnie sing!

AUDACITYPower Drowning from Recess Records/Burger Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

I saw these guys on a boat and thought they were the best band I have seen while skimming on the Pacific Ocean! From the first few chords they reminded me of Jerry's Kids. Like very early Jerry's Kids, as well as a slew of other early '80's bands, but 1 minute into a song everything changed and I thought, "Now they sound like The Bananas!". Yea I put a quote on thoughts. So what?! The day they all graduated from high school they left for their first US tour. They even do "Dicks Hate Police". Split release with Burger Records! --Todd/Recess

  BANANASNew Animals from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

"My band was on tour with The Bananas once and at one show they were pushed to do a sound check. I was eating in another room downstairs when i heard them start. All of the sudden i caught myself wolfing down my food very fast like i was in a hot dog eating contest. The reason was cos it sounded like i was missing a huge fun party. When i finished i ran into the room they were playing and it was empty, like most sound checks are. Even from a faint thump street blocks away they have a spirit and energy that many other bands will never come close to even pretending to have. Their first 3 albums are mainstays in my stereo and never seem to lose charm or fail the test of time. Their 4th album, "New Animals", promises even more longevity! Some of their best songs like "Gentrification for Dummies", "Radioaction", "National Anthem", and "Roly Poly" call this record home. Damn I'm glad they exist!" - Todd/Recess

"We met these guys on tour while they were driving around in some big ass watermelon. No shit. Halfway through their set I had a blasphemus thought that they were pretty much THE CLASH for now?!? Now while I wont repent I admit that they aren?t THE CLASH. They were from England and Bent is from NY. ?Stray dog town? is so good that I?m willing to give the damn money back if anyone doesn?t agree. Yea its so good that it makes you say stupid things that you really don?t mean. " - Todd/Recess

  BIG KITTYFlorence from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

When friends get together and make far-out hillbilly music, this is what happens. Big Kitty is southern second, hillbilly first, because hillbillies are everywhere and the hillbilly spirit thrives as well by a pure-white wedding cake as in its native wastelands. This band's name comes from a real live cat that, sadly, no longer stalks the earth. Big Kitty was Clark's cat, and there was also Little Kitty, whom he loved equally but whose name the band doesn't use, not for any particular reason, but that is just how it is. So Big Kitty travels underground of reasons and likes what it sees. In fact, Big Kitty began in the year 2000 with only Clark, the main singer and songwriter, playing solo at the Bard, a doomed coffeeshop that opened where a Subway sandwich shop used to be in a strip mall in his hometown of Maryville, Tennessee. Over the decade Clark moved to Chattanooga and made a bunch of friends and played a lot of punk and old-time music and Big Kitty became the 6-piece band it is today, with charming Cole Champion (ADD/C, Future Virgins) on drums, the divine William Johnson (Sexy, Future Virgins) on lead guitar, the ambrosial Amanda Cagle on accordions, winds, organ, etc, darling Daniel Binkley (the New Binkley Brothers) on bass and banjo, the dreamy Yuriko Hoshino on harmony vocals, slide whistle, and shortwave radio, and the devilish Clark Williams (the New Binkley Brothers) on guitar and vocals. The band regularly engages in harsh but rewarding North Korean-inspired boot camps followed by team-building orgies and feasts and the (in)famous "slaughtering of the boar." In 2009 and 2010, Clark and Yuri embarked upon a scouting proselytizing mission around the USA playing stripped-down versions of Big Kitty songs. They were really damn happy to get back to Chattanooga where the Big Kitty costumes became ever more elaborate and their audiences seemed to get more exotic and frighted, I mean frantic and excited. **Includes download code!

CHINESE TELEPHONES / DEAR LANDLORD from Recess Records/It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

"I had to scroll down this lackluster, at best, Dreamweaver file to find out when the last time i did a split 7". Lets just agree that its been awhile. I dunno why cos its a format that got me thru years of shitty throwaway B sides and turned me onto some pretty great bands. Ah ok enough "those were the days" crap! Dear Landlord is Zack & Half Pint from Rivethead and Fletcher & Brett from The Copyrights. Obviously if you liked any one of those bands you will love their side of this! Zach has not skipped a beat with his great songs. For those of you who wished Rivethead never broke up can stop throwing their stupid pennys in the well now. Chinese Telephones are consistently recording some great stuff! I think they are a hybrid of D4 and The Marked Men. If you heard their great side off The Potential Johns split 12" then your already hooked. go for it! Split release with the lovely It's Alive Records." - Todd/Recess

CIVIC MINDED FIVE / THE BLACKS from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

"One of the most underrated albums in the last 5 years is THE BLACKS HATE YOU LIKE GOLD. THE BLACKS ruled cos behind the twisted damage lied an undeniable catchiness thats usually unheard of with this type of stuff. I think maybe KARP is the only other band i can think of right now that had this kinda character. Sometime between the LP and this split 7" we lost THE BLACKS frontman CHAD KERR. This split serves as a tribute that RECESS is proud to share release honors along with CHEMICAL VALLEY RECORDS. CIVIC MINDED 5 keep up the pace from their last awesome record, E=CM5 (REC075), with 2 unreleased fkrs!" - Todd/Recess

  DIRT DRESSDLVNVN from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

LA WEEKLY: Dirt Dress have been soldiering through L.A.'s DIY scene for some years now, but their new record — Donde la Vida No Vale Nada, out on Recess and Burger — is a helluva leap upward and forward, and who knows what other unexpected directions? Like The Fall's Mark E. Smith famously said, "If you're gonna play it out of tune, play it out of tune properly." And so Dirt Dress delivers ferociously discordant post-punk-pounders, somewhat like The Fall, Swell Maps, The Adverts or the mighty Australian X. You'll even hear a bit of The Minutemen rattling around in here. ("Shit From an Old Notebook" spirit; "Political Song" intensity.) This is a band cut to its barest roots: guitar, drums, bass and a lot of sharp points. Would it be too much if we told you to dig it? — By Chris Ziegler

JAPANTHERBeets, Limes and Rice from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Described most recently as art-rock installation paratroopers and a studied form of New Wave anarchism by Flash Art, a Performance Galaxy by Vanity Fair, Super hard, incredibly fast and overall inspiring by Thrasher, more accessible than other bands of its genre by the New Yorker, and the best band ever, straight up by Tokion, Japanther (www.japanther.com) has always been a band apart, running the gamut from performance art to punk rock and back again. Pushing parties to the limit ("Lincoln Center punk-rock concert turned mini-riot -New York Post), Japanther returns in 2011 with Beets, Limes and Rice, a celebration of ten years in the underground and an ultra-contemporary meditation on catharsis and being in love in a time of darkness. Following on the heels of Rock n Roll Ice Cream (2010), Beets, Limes and Rice was again recorded in the hills of Los Angeles with producer Michael Blum, who has worked with Michael Jackson, Madonna (Like a Prayer, Whos That Girl), Pink Floyd and Suicidal Tendencies. From Venice Beach to Rockaway Beach, this new album delivers a new urban punk rock dance sound that bursts with California sunshine and amped-up collaborations with Ninjasonik, Erick Lyle, Total Warr and John McIntyr. Beets, Limes and Rice was written in the midst of "It Never Seems to End," an 84-hour performance piece in Vienna, Austria for TBA 21; in Paris, Venice, during cross-country travel from Juarez to Brooklyn to Bellingham, and lots of airports in between. Beets, Limes and Rice will be released on October 18th in digital and vinyl format from Recess Records, on CD from Japanther's own Tapes Records, on cassette from Lauren Records, and by Seayou Records in Europe. The artwork for the album was created by Monica Canilao, whose art focuses on craft, reclaimed materials, and the meaning of home, the power of collectivity and the imprint history has left on me. Japanther is an art project, established by Matt Reilly and Ian Vanek, then students at Pratt Institute. Japanther was featured in the 2006 Whitney Biennial and the 2011 Venice Biennale, and has collaborated with a diverse pool of artists such as Gelitin, Penny Rimbaud, Gee Vaucher, Dan Graham, Eileen Myles, Kevin Bouton-Scott, robbinschilds, Dawn Riddle, Claudia Meza, Todd James, Devin Flynn, Ninjasonik, Anita Sparrow and Spankrock. Japanther has made its name with unique performance situations, appearing alongside synchronized swimmers, atop the Williamsburg Bridge, with giant puppets, marionettes and shadow puppets, in the back of a moving truck in Soho, and at shows with giant dinosaurs and BMXers flying off the walls.

LANDLORDBeneath the Wheel from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

We have daily conversations lately concerning how lucky we are to be able to release some pretty damn awesome albums. Not tooting our horn, tooting the band's horns. One of these albums is Beneath The Wheel by Bloomington, IN's Landlord. Jacob Hamilton, St.Augustine, FL mayor, turned me on to these guys a few years back and I was blown away by their ability to bring darkness and sunlight at the same instance. There's something beautifully creepy about the way their records sound. BTW, while being no exception, is a huge leap forward. Imagine early Built to Spill and Dinosaur Jr. but with more straight-to-the-point punk references. It's super refreshing! And shit, again, we're lucky. **Gold vinyl; download code!

LENGUAS LARGASLenguas Largas from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

"What the heck is a LENGUAS LARGAS? Some say it means “Heavy Halibut” and yet others will tell you it means “Tall Tongue”. If you were to ask newsman Ron Burgundy he might say it means “Whale Penis”. In reality it’s probably something much cooler and less disgusting than all that. After listening to the record I think LENGUAS LARGAS means “Bitchen Dudes Made A Killer Record For People To Listen To With Headphones On While Smoking Salvia (Hannah Montana drug)”. The last time I saw Isaac (vocal / guitar) he was wearing a shiny red blouse at a TOYS THAT KILL gig in Arizona. A bunch of beer and smoking went down before we inevitable found ourselves saying good-bye in the parking lot. After Isaac and I professed our love to each other he dropped to his knees and told me to use him as a step to get in the van. I tried to tell him that I weighed over 250 pounds and if I didn’t break his back I would ruin his red blouse, surely. He jumped up, punched me right in the nuts, and yelled, “Don’t call me Shirley!” before running off into the night. Lenguas Largas are from Tucson, AZ. Featuring members of Swing Ding Amigos, the Blacks, Shark Pants, Built To Spill, Digital Leather, & Sexy so you know they aren’t messing around. This is the 1st and easily the best full length to date from these dudes and they will prove it by touring the hell out of it. What more can I say? Radical vocals, awesome song writing, incredible recording, Oh, and because some of the song titles are in Spanish, your ipod takes on the voice of a Mexican man when pronouncing the tracks … So you got that going for you." - Halbadal 2011 P.S. I have it on good authority that the red blouse has since been properly disposed of.

MODERN MACHINESTaco Blessing (SALE PRICE!) from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

"The Modern Machines have been accurately compared to The Replacements, Husker Du and early Lemonheads. They bring back to life a style of music that most people forgot existed (or at least thought would never exist again) and do it so well that you swear you were hearing it for the first time. Their Midwest-sounding songs are so consistently well-written that this release no doubt will be considered a classic. Not only is the music amazing, but they rock the fuckin' house when they play live." - Punk Planet

MODERN MACHINESTake It, Somebody! (SALE PRICE ON LP!) from Recess Records/Dirtnap
Available in our NEW STORE!

Milwaukee, WI's Modern Machines return with their 4th CD (after a string of cassette-only releases), first for Dirtnap, and it's easily their best one yet! True pop smarts meets classsic upper midwestern punk inspiration filtered thru modern day basement punk sensibilities. Husker Du meets early Replacements meets early Lemonheads (remember when they were good?) meets Dillinger 4 meets The Figgs? While these comparisons remain fairly apt, Take It, Somebody sees the band incorporating older and more diverse influences into their distinctive songwritingstyle, including 60's garage rock, and even a little Americana-esque twang. Heartfelt, sincere, clever songwriting from one of the hardest working bands in punk rock, who, by the sound of things, are only beginning to hit their stride. Oh yeah, and it was recorded in a basement in Milwaukee for $200. What more could you possibly want?

OFF WITH THEIR HEADSHospitals from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

"Oh, Fuck yes! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS has stepped up to the plate and delivered a record that rocks with the passion of a thousand Alamo house basement shows. Imagine a stronger MODERN MACHINES,mixed with some DILLINGER FOUR, and then throw in a healthy dose of RIVETHEAD (which this band is ex members of) and you have OFF WITH THEIR HEADS. There is something wonderful and totally punk about jumping up and down while singing songs about misery and sorrow with a smile on your face. This record is so recommended that I can almost guarantee will be on my year-end top ten and its only march." - J. Floyd/ MRR

  RIVERDALESTarantula from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Riverdales follow up last year's "Invasion USA" with "Tarantula," 30 minutes of their heaviest yet catchiest songs to date. Initially meant to be part of "Invasion USA," these tunes stood out on their own enough to be their own beast. In these parts, RIverdales-Storm The Streets, is considered a cultish, godlike slab. Tarantula carries on with the great Foster/Schafer songwriting team, as well as being complimented with the Justin Perkins production. "12 to the Moon" can be considered a classic weeks before release date. And if you wanna talk up the Ramones references, well then we can clock in with this era's "Baby Sitter/Bonzo/Something to Believe In" via "Soultaker". I am comfortable saying that. **LP is packaged in a hefty gatefold jacket! **CD sports the infamous digipak!

RIVETHEADThe Cheap Wine of Youth from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

"This 6 song bastard is terribly refreshing. you wont find any bogus "rock n roll baby" shit here boy! If Dillinger 4 was heaven and Screeching Weasel were hell (or visa versa of course) then Rivethead would be on earth. Unbastardize this one and give it a home, name it what you want, feed it your attention, take off your belt and... ok i'll shut up." - Todd/Recess

SCREECHING WEASELAnthem For a New Tomorrow from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Gatefold jacket! Limited colored vinyl! 300 each pressed of blue, red, green, & clear. SCREECHING WEASEL's great fifth full-length! This one has spent years as my favorite Weasel album only to be crowned and then uncrowned many times by their mighty 1991 epic My Brain Hurts. Either way, both albums have stood the test of time. If MBH was a cross between The Ramones and The Dickies, Anthem can draw from The Freeze, Wire and The Kinks (Village Green era). -- Todd Congelliere

  SCREECHING WEASELBoogadaboogadaboogada from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Now re-issued by Recess on CD! LP has a gatefold cover! "Recess is currently going through high emotions due to the grantage of releasing most of Screeching Weasel's catalog on vinyl. The first installment is the classic second album Boogadaboogadaboogada. Originally released on Roadkill Records, then bootlegged in europe, and then re-released on Lookout Records, and now on an updated mastered, deluxe packaged Recess version. This album is reminiscent of the better A.O.D. Stuff, yet has the sign-of-things-to-come classics like "Love", "Stupid Over You", "My Right", "I Wanna Be Naked", and the great great "Hey Suburbia". 26 songs in all!! If you paid attention to punk or HC in the late '80's then this was considered a savior!" - Todd/Recess

SCREECHING WEASELCarnival of Schadenfreude from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Seven songs.

SCREECHING WEASELHow To Make Enemies and Irritate People from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

The 6th Screeching Weasel studio album rises from the dead again! Some would consider this the second "last" Screeching Weasel album. Riverdales were right around the corner at this point so it makes sense that this album is even more Ramones-inspired than the last. Mike Dirnt ( Green Day ) filled in Vapid's shoes, for this album, after his departure. Recut for the best vinyl pleasure by Lucky Lacquers and the best SW art rework to date by Riccardo Bucchioni!!

**On CLEAR, WHITE, RED or GREEN vinyl!** "Wiggle" is SCREECHING WEASEL's 4th full-length, and third in the Recess preservation act of all things Weasel. Ok, now we really understand that there's a strong Ramones influence. When this one was first released, I heard a coupla "Ramones tribute band!" and a coupla "Oh yea?! Let's hear em do "QUESTIONINGLY"!!". Ok maybe I didnt hear the latter. But still, there's super new wave hints while still holding onto a tiny shred of the earlier, Crimpshrine-y bits. Their version of Teenage Head's "AIN'T GOT NO SENSE" rivals the original...in my opinion. The band didn't find this their best record due to a rush to get a "My Brain Hurts" follow up and maybe some unfair expectations, but I think it's one of their best. And because our Ambassador to The Kids license has not yet expired, we give you bonus tracks, never before seen photos (like you care), super buff gatefold jacket, and 4 editions of colored vinyl. Yea... I know." - Todd / Recess

"Theres something going down in Tuscon. Some of the most overlooked bands are there right as i type. Desperation & heat can drive people fukn crazy to the brink of total gnarlyness sending them home from the bank with nothing but a negative balanced statement and a shitty toaster. Luckily bands like SHARK PANTS get together and channel it all thru amps. Members of SWING DING AMIGOS & THE BLACKS." - Todd/Recess

SPITS, THEThe Spits IV (aka "School's Out") from In The Red/Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

“When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” —Raoul Duke "A quote that proves to be eerily prescient with the long awaited return of professional weirdos, The SPITS. Fresh from the studio with their fourth self-titled LP on Recess/Thriftstore Records, The SPITS show no sign of slowing down with their latest effort, mixing equal parts Devo and Misfits into an aurally addictive, synth-inflected stew. Describing the music they play as “Punk for the People” these prophets of the proletariat have a message for the masses: The SPITS are the soundtrack to the Apocalypse. The SPITS have never shied away from esoteric subject matter musically. Previous records have contained themes of escaped Nazi war criminals, nuclear winters, commie spies, and terrorist attacks, coupled with back alley booze-fests, brain- bruising bong rips, skateboards, and fisticuffs. With songs about constable evasion (“Police”), Huxley-esque visions of metropolitan horror (“Eyesore City”), and alien abduction (“Alienize”), SPITS #4 should prove to be just as desperately disparate and sonically sordid as previous salvos. In short: Unlike a lot of the bands in the staid punk scene, The SPITS are fun. For the uninitiated, The SPITS are a punk rock band hailing from, well, all over the place, by way of Michigan, and then Seattle. The brothers Wood, Sean and Erin, play guitar and bass respectively, with Lance Phelps on drums and Ernie Quintero banging on the ever present keyboards. While the drums and synth have seen live line-up changes in the past, a constant with the band has been the studio collaboration between the two brothers, and Phelps. From the fuzzed out, over-driven, guitar and vox intro of “Tonight”, and the percussive, submachine gun attack of “Police”, to the cool bottom heaviness of “Life of Crime”, and the lo-fi genius outro of “Flags”, The SPITS fourth offering is the strongest to date; showcasing a band that is only beginning to approach the zenith of its power, as the world dips entropically past its own, toward obliteration. Indeed. Buy the record, take the ride. "-Shawn Durant

Available in our NEW STORE!

**Vinyl includes download code for entire album plus the demo versions! **Stoned At Heart is Todd, Jimmy, Chachi (Toys That Kill & Underground Railroad To Candyland) and Jessica (Baby J, Can Of Beans)! Stoned At Heart: We got together less than a year ago. I forgot why? I guess outta mutual love for each other's songs, me and Baby J. Chachi and Jimmy make those songs sound waaay better than they were intended. We made plans to record (demo or whatever) and it fell right in the midst of us recording The Underground Railroad to Candyland in our own Clown Sound Studio (in my garage). So we decided "just one weekend and then back to URTC". We were so happy with the SAH sessions that we scrapped the current URTC session only to re-do it the right way! The learning curve is a motherfucker, yet a nice motherfucker indeed.-Todd Congelliere

  SUMMER VACATIONCondition from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Local faves Summer Vacation made a great record! I don't think they've been playing together long enough for their chemistry to be as spot on as it is. It gets me off thinking that they might be obsessed with space camp. Regardless, the future looks brighter than shit! Shit's bright! No gimmicks, no "playing house", skinny jean cool fella bullshit here. Their influences can be anything. I know they dig the Blue Album but they seem influenced by their own environment more than anything else. I salute it! Includes a free download of the whole album, limited to 500 blue colored vinyl, and sports ultra ULTRA suave artwork by Penelope Gazin! Why are you just sitting there?!?

Back in print on vinyl! "These fools are gonna implode! I swear everytime we see em play they get better and better and they didn?t even need to get any better. To try to name a band that they sound like is putting in years and months of writers block. This record totally blows away the last TURBONEGRO record. I?m really serious. I?ll even walk the streets of Oslo saying that until I get sacrificed by some black metal motherfuckers!" - Todd/Recess

"A bonifide split with Wronghole Records Inc of total desert trash! Although you might know what CM5 is all about you need to know them better. Hal Ba Dal pitches in some pretty borderline insane liner notes to help you figure stuff out. Swing Ding Amigos?! what?! my dream is to see a fist fight between them and that shitty band JET. Swing dings are pretty much the shit and sooner or later you'll understand." - Todd/Recess

THEE MAKEOUT PARTYPlay Pretend from Recess Records

"I've always been attracted to OC punk, although in its supposed "heyday" there was some pretty retarded shit goin' on. In 1986 I remember speed walking outta Fenders Ballroom while D.I. was playing cos i saw some dude with a knife dangling from his back, and didn't go to any shows for a year or so. Although it wasn't D.I.'s fault and I actually loved the other OC bands at the time, i feel better about what's goin' on in Orange County nowadays. Bands like Pterodacdudes, Audacity, Drinkers Purgatory, and Thee Makeout Party sound nothing like each other, but share something that I ain't even gonna try to explain! Thee's sound is not unlike the great power-pop that was unleashed by labels like Stiff Records (Wreckless Eric, Nick Lowe) and Posh Boy (Red Cross, The Simpletones) awhile back. This is Thee's debut LP!" - Todd/Recess

"This album should've been called "C'mon catman light my fire" due to all the fires related. The day i got home from austin after recording this my place and the Recess HQ caught on fire. 1 week later Sweatbox studio (where we record) caught on fire mildly. 1 month later the building caught on fire and totally burnt down. The building was owned by the same guy that got shot by Dick Cheney! But that aformentioned title is totally lame and you should thank me for not going down that route.Your welcome!" - Todd/Recess

**On RED vinyl! Includes download code! In summer 2007, just on the heels of recording “Marvels of Industry” with his band the Arrivals, Isaac Thotz went on a month long binge of drink and drugs and 1960’s psychedelic rock that ended with a self-recorded twelve song demo of acoustic psychedelic pop songs, a collection sounding like Syd Barrett outtakes. At the end of the month, the Arrivals went on tour with Underground Railroad to Candyland, where Isaac showed his recordings to Todd Congelliere (of URTC and owner of Recess Records) and by the end of that week, on a rooftop party at a tenement in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, they’d resolved to start their new mod-psych band. Isaac joined a project Todd C. had been doing with the members of the Dios Malos in L.A., under the name Bible Children. They did a handful of shows around L.A. and Chicago, recorded a demo, and broke up in 2009 under the stress of long distance. In summer 2010, Thotz restarted the effort with friends and local Chicago musicians Neil Hennessy (of the Lawrence Arms) on bass, Dave Merriman (of the Arrivals) on keys, Mike Oberlin (of Sass Dragons) on drums, and Eli Caterer (of Smoking Popes) on lead guitar. Now called Treasure Fleet, the band went into Atlas Studios in Chicago in March 2011, intending to re-record a couple of of those early demos, maybe to self-release a seven inch. They ended up spending five days at Atlas and recording an eleven song mod-rock epic. With no plans for a proper release and busy summer schedules with their other bands, that record sat on the shelf, half-mixed and un-released. Despite the unfinished Atlas recordings, in December 2011, Treasure Fleet decided to self-record yet another album; which they did, in part at the loft and show-space where drummer Mike Oberlin lived, Lucky Gator, and in part at Isaac Thotz’s apartment and attic. This new record is: “Cocamotion.” “Cocamotion”, Treasure Fleet’s debut release, is a melange of mod and psych inspired indie rock. Moving from the surfy “Coca Mama”, a tweaked-out Santo & Johnny semi-instrumental, to the new wave electro-punk “Vice”, from the the quirky Who-rock of “Black Rag”, to the Kink-ish camp of “Proud Mary”, the Morricone meets Clash “Ghost Town”, to the Pink Floyd tinged “Trapeze Artist” and “High On a Bicycle”, “Cocamotion” is a psychpop acid trip though the history of rock n’ roll. If MGMT had come of age with the hard rocking Who or Nirvana rather than arty Brian Eno, “Congratulations” would have been Treasure Fleet’s “Cocamotion”. And with bands like Underground Railroad to Candyland, Lenguas Largas, Pangea, this new psych sound is punk’s weird, dirty, drugged-out answer to the folk-punk that’s dominated the scene for the last decade.

Back in stock on vinyl! Folks from Toys That Kill! Here is what Jersey Beat said about this one."You can put this album on and think you were listening to Toys That Kill or FYP and that is not a bad thing at all (considering they have some of the same members.) With that TTK/FYP sound, The Underground Railroad To Candyland blast out 12 outstanding tracks. ?(Suey) Ex- Fat Kid Blues? was the track that fully grabbed my attention and set this band aside in my mind from TTK/FYP. With call and respond choruses, chanting verses and a slight country/ folksy twang, this album envelops you and keeps you wanting more and more. ? No way!, Miss U.S.A.!? which has become my favorite track on this album, even has a Dick Dale surf rock feel to it explored through the main guitar riff. However after these 12 songs finished, I scrambled to my CD?s and pulled out all the great TTK/FYP albums I?ve collected over the years. This album will definitely be one I will be glad to come across while looking through my collection in the years to come."

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO CANDYLANDKnows Your Sins from Recess Records
Available in our NEW STORE!

Band members were starting to believe that this album was cursed. Two college tries at recording, only to fail with flying colors. Files were shredded, tears were shed and too much was said. Half the songs were either ditched or found a home with one of the family bands (Toys That Kill, Stoned At Heart, Stoned At Heart, That’s Incredible, Audacity). Some were reworked and some new ones surfaced, which, fortunately, gave the project an awesome breath of fresh air. Hence: Knows Your Sins, URTC's sophmore album, recorded at the band's own Clown Sound studio. Some said URTC’s first record, Bird Roughs, could've fit in an unorthodox surf film. If thats the case, Knows Your Sins will be fitting in a surf horror film, if that genre even exists. LP comes with free download!
