BROKEDOWNS / VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLSplit from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Brokedowns and Vacation Bible School both came to my attention a few years ago; The Brokedowns by way of Adam Fletcher's (The Copyrights, Dear Landlord) insistence that I check them out and later Sam North's (Traffic Street Records) insistence that I start with their most recent releases and work backwards instead of the other way around; Vacation Bible School also came by way of Sam North after he released a split 7" with them on Traffic Street Records. I knew both bands had been around about a decade already and had even heard some of their earliest releases. But the music I heard from both these bands nearly ten years into their existence totally floored me and had me wondering how I wasn't already a fan of these bands. I worked my way back through all of their releases and have been a huge fan ever since. Knowing both bands were from the same general area of Elgin, Illinois and that both were making some of the very best punk rock around, I thought it'd be rad to hit them up about doing a split 7" with each other on It's Alive. That's when I found out Traffic Street had already planned to do just that. But shit went south for Sam and Traffic Street was no longer active in releasing records, so I contacted all parties involved and asked if they were into doing the split with It's Alive. The Brokedowns play some of the most singular, heavy hitting, far from simple punk rock by any band around. I've read many failed attempts at describing their sound. I am sure this will be another one. At times it is punishing. At others totally poppy. And more often than not it is both at the same time. These guys are some kind of punk rock wizards! Vacation Bible School play pop punk the way the greats of the early 90s did. The roots of their music are embedded in the same place as they are for all pop punk bands, but from there they grew and spread out into branches of style and substance that as a whole make for an incredibly unique and well crafted sound in a genre that is often lacking of individuality and significance. Vacation Bible School have been perfecting their sound for nearly a decade and it shows.

COPYRIGHTSShit's Fucked from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Copyrights hit the ground running in 2002. They pumped life back into the near dead pop punk scene of the time and turned it on its ear. They redefined the pop punk genre and added something it never really had - an anthem. They turned what was once a VFW Hall full of leather jacket Converse Chuck Taylor wearing toe tapping and head bobbing kids into a basement packed with sweat-soaked people of all ages and all kinds going nuts and screaming along with every word to every song while floating crowd surfers and dodging stage divers. Some might think this version of history is fucked, but I challenge them to name a pop punk band that came before The Copyrights that acted as a catalyst to the change of what was the pop punk scene of yesteryear to what is the pop punk scene of today. Sure, many more came after and did a lot for the scene and brought it to new levels, but The Copyrights opened that door and paved that road. The Copyrights have always been thought of as our "house band." We may not have released every album of theirs on every format, but we've released more records of theirs than any other two It's Alive bands combined. Their list of "first times" with It's Alive continues to grow. They were our first release, first 7", first record to go into a second pressing, first band to do more than one release with, first acoustic release, first full length, first 12", first picture disc, first split LP, first gatefold and now first double LP. We always knew our 50th release had to be something special done with a band that was special to our label. So here it is, The Copyrights Shit's Fucked double LP/CD 24-song collection of singles, splits and comp tracks from 2004-2010. Originally slated for release in early 2011, here it is finally seeing the light of day in the middle of 2013. Like the song says, "Shit's fucked, but what can you do..."

CRUSADESParables from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

There is nothing more satisfying than releasing a record by a new band and finding fans for them from within your own fan base. We didn't make fans out of them; the band did. But we did help make that bridging possible. It is equally awesome when a band can do the same for a label. Crusades are a band that have made fans of strangers. Their music is not so far off from what It's Alive has released in the past that they don't fit in with or don't make sense sandwiched between bands like Chinese Telephones and The Dopamines. But they are far enough from our center that they have reached the ears of people who wouldn't usually look to us for new music to get into. Those people now come looking for more and find something different, yet similar enough to take interest and give it a chance. Some become fans of what we are doing and the records we are putting out. For that we will forever be stoked to have released Crusades debut album The Sun Is Down And The Night Is Riding In. With their second album already set to be released by No Idea Records, we wanted to do at least one more 7" before their send off. Certainly with the hopes of partnering up again in the future. Parables is a perfect summary of Crusades. It has build up, power, melody, pop punk appeal, masterful guitar shredding and each of the three vocalists gets time on mic to showcase this bands vocal versatility. Lyrically it presents worthwhile questioning of conventional belief as I am sure all Crusades material forever will. Stoked again. --Adam/It's Alive

CRUSADESThe Sun Is Down and the Night Is Riding In from Razorcake Records/It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

To call the Ottawa punk scene incestual makes it sound too wholesome. At this point, a band family tree would be impossible. They've crossed the line into band forest territory; new sprouts feeding off the old growth. It's a successful ecosystem inhabited by amazing musicians. At the end of the day, those people and their bands are releasing the most high quality records, per capita, in the entire world. The newest germination is Crusades' debut full-length, The Sun Is Down and the Night Is Riding In. In my eyes, all punk worth a damn is somewhat anti-Christian, but Crusades take it to a new level. They combine their disdain for organized religion with melodies four voices deep. Crusades own the night, enlisting the unholy powers of unlikely allies like The Chinese Telephones, From Ashes Rise, and Alice Cooper. Comes in gatefold, reverse board cover, with a download code. (Ex-members/members of The Sedatives, The Creeps, Steve Adamyk Band, and much much more.) Here's a nice review: "If you're not already familiar with Ottawa, ON's Crusades from their promising first demo/seven-inch, you most likely know one or more of the handful of other bands the members inhabit(ed). Separately, they're responsible for some of the city's best bands (Year Zero, the Creeps, the Sedatives, Buried Inside) and together they've formed a whole new beast that takes pieces of the vast influences and fierce delivery of their other outfits. Ostensibly a heavier pop-punk band, but with darker thematic intentions and occasional metal inclinations (see "Remedy"), Crusades also dabble in some dark Jesus and Mary Chain-type pop on "Serpentine," and even touch upon Who territory with a moody acoustic finish on closer "Termites." They please lots of palates and do so in an incredibly smart, seasoned way. On its surface, this debut is brash and deeply melodic; underneath, it's a narrative of a "spiritual voyage" exploring religion and atheism. You can listen to it one way or the other or both and find it a charged and satisfying full experience." - Exclaim

FERAL TRASHDead Eyes from Dirt Cult
Available in our NEW STORE!

Canada is on fire (I mean that in the best possible way). And this debut 7" is just another great example of the amazing things that seem to be coming out of that country every time I turn around. But frankly, while this band comes from a fairly small town near Nova Scotia, I don't think listeners would be surprised if they guessed they were from Texas, as they seem to have really captured that nervous and haunting garage rock sound that bands like Occult Detective Club and Hex Dispensers have perfected over the years. Featuring Eric Neurotic from Fear of Lipstick (It's Alive/P. Trash Records).

GATEWAY DISTRICTOld Wild Hearts from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Sometimes the best way to find strength is to be mindful of your weaknesses. Sometimes the best way to move on is to commit your past to memory so you can stop reliving it and progress. Old Wild Hearts plays like a note to self on how to be grow strong and move on. Lyrically it can read as a total downer, but through the music its message is transformed into an empowering motivation to make a change for the better. Gateway District continue to do just that with this, their third full length album. With each new record they get better and move on. The familiar patterns of the past are still present, but only those that make way for improvement remain. Strengths are reaffirmed and expanded upon. Weaknesses are cast aside. Perfection is in sight, but perfect's gonna fail... but maybe not this time.

LIPSTICK HOMICIDE / THE TURKLETONSSplit from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

How much pop punk can you take? A lot, I hope. Because that's what you're gonna get on this split. Lipstick Homicide and The Turkletons could seriously kill you with all the pop in their punk. Lipstick Homicide play it like a direct continuation of the early Lookout Records sound that was coming out of the bay area before they were even born. Big nods of respect especially to Kerplunk era Green Day. But Lipstick Homicide are undeniably a midwest band. They've got that certain midwest something special that you can't ever really pin point or explain, but when you hear it you instantly recognize it and eagerly welcome it in. Lipstick Homicide have one of the most unassuming yet raw and powerful presences on stage. I can't imagine even the biggest pop punk hater seeing them live and not being impressed with their live show. Chances are good even that hater is walking away a fan. The Turkletons remind me of a rag tag version of Teen Idols. They are fully aware and capable of putting together the sweetest harmonies and melodies, but can't be bothered to try to sing like some perfect pitch choir kids and play every note just so. Instead they put their energy to better use having fun and making you laugh, smile, sing, dance or at the very least tap your toes and do a little head bob, dammit. Much like their pals on the flipside of this split, The Turkletons put on a great live show full of energy and lots of fun. But unlike their pals, they were not asked by Green Day to open for them at Madison Sqaure Garden this past year. What the fuck, Green Day?

MAXIES, THEGreenland is Melting from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Maxies' debut album Greenland Is Melting was originally released a couple of years ago on CD only. It sold over 300,000 copies in Greenland which made it a number one seller nationally in their native home of Greenland. That says a lot considering most homes there don't have CD players in them and there are only 100,000 people living in that country. Go figure. But what Greenland does have in abundance is out of date, old timey technology like phonograph players. Now available for the first time as a phonograph record, Greenland Is Melting has been beefed up for the cold season (which really just means all year because it's always cold there, always) with four new tracks and a remastered remix of this Greenland classic. Pop punk power pop with more hook, more pop and more chop is the name of the game this time around. Lock up your daughters, and your sons (they don't discriminate or care). This one's a scorcher!

MEAN JEANS / UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO CANDYLANDSplit from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

I have been chasing down both of these bands for a record since they first hit the scene. That's the better part of a decade for Underground Railroad To Candyland. But I guess a wait like thatis to be expected when the guys in the band also split time in Toys That Kill, Stoned At Heart and some other bands I probably don't even know of yet. For Mean Jeans it's been less time, but these guys have been down right prolific with the amount of records they've churned out to melt the faces of me, you and anyone else around who knows was sup. It was no easy feat getting these bands on board for a record. These fellas are hard to get and for good reason. Everyone wants a piece of the best bands around! Lucky for us all this shit finally came to be. What you get are two new tracks from two killer bands doing what they do best. Underground Railroad To Candyland continue down their poppy, surfy, slightly psychedelic trip with "I Dunno What I'm Sayin'" and "Alright." Mean Jeans get rad and rip it up with their pogo punk quintessential party jams "Possessed To Party" and "Terminally Twisted." --Adam/It's Alive

UP FOR NOTHINGIn Trance from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Brooklyn's Up For Nothing have been around for 10 years, but from their style and sound you might think it was closer to 20. They play it fast, melodiic, anthemic and overflowing with positivity much like the bands coming out of New York back then. But their passion and energy keep it fresh and focused on what's going on today not just in the greater New York area, but far beyond as well. Mixing the best of NY past and underground pop punk present, Up For Nothing come up with some of the catchiest and instantly memorable hooks of any band playing today. Singing along with the choruses on your first listen is a huge testament to the power of a band's hook. Up For Nothing will succeed in doing just that. In Trance was recorded by Pete Steinkopf (Bouncing Souls), produced by Ernie Parada (Token Entry, Black Train Jack, Grey Area) and mastered by Stephen Egerton (Descendents, ALL). I don't usually make a point of listing non-band credits when introducing a new record, but with guys like these with such incredible credentials behind them, I can't resist.

BARRAKUDA MCMURDERSlow Crawl from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

This is Grath Madden of The Steinways first band and first release since the unfortunate end of The Steinways (www.myspace.com/thesteinways). If you were a fan of his past material you're sure to love this new EP. The melodies and harmonies are back in full force as well as the shitty attitude. The songs are still about a crappy life, love and all that junk, but they read a little more personal than his past efforts. A great first release from a new band showing lots of promise.

BE MY DOPPELGANGERNo Composure from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

**Includes download code! "No Composure" is an eclectic mix of the best pop punk, powerpop and rock 'n' roll the midwest has to offer from one of today's best bands going. Be My Doppelganger bring a party to the stage every time they play. They've managed to capture that energy and excitement and put it on wax - it's like your own porta-party! There's something on here for everyone, whether you're an all out rager, a romance junkie, or a hang-in-the-corner kid. "No Composure" was recorded by Matt Allison at Atlas Studios, co-produced by Adam Fletcher from The Copyrights, mixed by Matt "Drastic" Yonker (formerly of the Teen Idols), and mastered by Cliffy Huntington - all that shit's gotta count for something!

CHINESE TELEPHONESChinese Telephones from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The self-titled debut album from Chinese Telephones was first released in November 2007. It was pretty much instantly sold out and repressed the following month in December 2007. By early 2008 it was gone again. The band had called it a day not long after, so we left this album out of print. A couple years later Chinese Telephones were playing some shows here and there and eventually went out for a couple of tours. Fast forward to 2010, the band was officially back to active status and has been playing out since. It seems dumb not to have this album in print for as long as this incredible band is out stoking the old fans and winning over new ones. So here we are releasing the third pressing of one of the absolute best records we've ever been lucky enough to have released. All copies have been pressed on yellow/blue split color vinyl and come with a download code. If you missed it the first time, get it now! If you already have it and want a copy that's really cool to look at, go for it! This album is goddamn modern classic!

CHINESE TELEPHONESDemocracy from It's Alive/Sandwich Man
Available in our NEW STORE!

Chinese Telephones... Democracy... get it? Well, if you don't get the Guns N Roses "Chinese Democracy" joke in there I won't hold it against you. That piece of crap took them something like a decade to get released. So, to keep the parody of a joke as true to form as we could, we took forever and a day to get this LP out! The CD version has been out for a good long while now. If you know what's good for you, you already own it. But even if you do, you might wanna pick up this LP version. Not only does it have both songs from the Art Of The Underground Single Series 7" on it, which the CD did not, but it's also been entirely re- mastered by Justin Perkins. That dude knows what he's doing with all the switches and knobs!

CHINESE TELEPHONES / DEAR LANDLORD from Recess Records/It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

"I had to scroll down this lackluster, at best, Dreamweaver file to find out when the last time i did a split 7". Lets just agree that its been awhile. I dunno why cos its a format that got me thru years of shitty throwaway B sides and turned me onto some pretty great bands. Ah ok enough "those were the days" crap! Dear Landlord is Zack & Half Pint from Rivethead and Fletcher & Brett from The Copyrights. Obviously if you liked any one of those bands you will love their side of this! Zach has not skipped a beat with his great songs. For those of you who wished Rivethead never broke up can stop throwing their stupid pennys in the well now. Chinese Telephones are consistently recording some great stuff! I think they are a hybrid of D4 and The Marked Men. If you heard their great side off The Potential Johns split 12" then your already hooked. go for it! Split release with the lovely It's Alive Records." - Todd/Recess

CITY MOUSECity Mouse from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

City Mouse has been kicking around for quite a few years now. Though the line-up has seen many changes over time, the awesomeness of the passionate and heavy-hitting songs has constantly been improving with each new incarnation of the band. Mainstay front-woman Miski Dee Rodriguez knows how to write a solid pop jam and can belt out the whoa-mama lead vocals like nobody's business! The four tracks that make up this s/t vinyl debut release are reminiscent of the mid-nineties pop punk rock n roll that was being played by some of the toughest ladies of punk rock from the midwest and upper south at the time - powerful, sultry lead vocals over an incredibly melodic, driving rhythm. Danzig-approved.

  COPYRIGHTSCrutches from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Crutches is the first single off of The Copyrights' newest album North Sentinel Island. Like all of their jams, it is both instantly recognizable as a Copyrights song, yet at the same time just different enough from previous works to keep you guessing where they are going with it. Having already heard the new album, Crutches is really much more of a teaser than a indicator of what's to come. The safest bet is just to expect the best because every longtime Copyrights fan will tell you each successive album is better than the one before and North Sentinel Island is no exception to that rule. The flipside of this EP contains two demo tracks that didn't make the cut for the final recording of the new album; one a straight forward punk jam. The other a total pop ballad. A band that can nail it both ways is definitely doing something right. **Includes download code!

COPYRIGHTSNorth Sentinel Island from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

It's hard to believe it has been eight years since The Copyrights released their first album way back in 2003. Pop punk had long since burst onto the scene, into the big leagues and retreated back to the basements by then, leaving behind the last of the diehards. Among those diehards were The Copyrights. Still teenagers then, these guys took everything good about the old style and made it new again... and better than ever. They were among the first of a few young bands to really take pop punk, turn it on its end and redefine the genre. Eight years, a slew of singles and five full length albums later they are still at it. They continue to define and redefine the genre with each successive album. No two Copyrigths albums sound exactly the same, but they are all unmistakably Copyrights through and through. Bands like this make sticking to the music you love despite all of its lows worth it every day. North Sentinel Island is the best Copyrights album to date. But ask any Copyrights fan and they will have said the same about each new album when it came out. They aren't wrong - this band just gets better and better with each new record.

Two of the very best bands the underground has to offer in the way of melodic-pop-punk-rock. At some point the new-school becomes the old-school, or at least the not-so-new-school. The Copyrights were the new kids on the block seven years ago when they got started, but today have become a band that is inspiring newer, younger acts. The Dopamines are undeniably one of these bands. This EP showcases both bands at their very best doing what they do best - singing about fucking up!

  CREDENTIALSGoocher from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

In a time when it's not only accepted but seemingly encouraged and even applauded for underground independent bands to get their music licensed for video games, car commercials, energy drink sponsorships and shit knows what else, it's nice to know some bands still stand against all that big deal bullshit. The Credentials are one of those bands. Ideals aren't dead and neither is punk. "Goocher" is the band's second album and it's stacked full of anthems shouted out against the bullshit we all see and deal with in day to day life. They don't get all preachy or pretentious with it either. They sing from the heart and go for the guts on every track. Musically The Credentials fall somewhere between the east bay sound of the '90s not unlike Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder and more modern bands like Chinese Telephones and Witches With Dicks. Mix all that up with a little '77 street punk style and crunchy pop punk jams and that's how "Goocher" is gonna rock you!

CREEPS, THEFollow You Home from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Creeps have been doing their thing for the better part of a decade now. Their first album in 2003 (Gamma Gamma Ray) was very much in the vain of the sci-fi-horror-outter-space meets girls-with-problems pop punk thing popular throughout the late 90's into early 00's. Though they were totally proficient and capable of rocking a good tune, it wasn't anything terribly fresh. Their next album in 2005 (Back To The Bin) had something new to offer in the guitar leads department, but otherwise wasn't too different in style or sound. It was, however, themed from start to finish - something pretty much trademark for the band ever since. 2008 saw the release of their third album (Lakeside Cabin) on which The Creeps really found their own sound. They got comfortable slowing it down and experimenting with song structures and really sparse yet effective backing vocals. Skottie's lead vocals were improved almost to the point of reinvention - they're unmistakable once familiarized with them. Later that year they released their first 7" EP (These Walls). It was on that EP that The Creeps really claimed the sound that is now their own and took a big step out into less trodden territory in the world of pop punk rock. That brings us to now... Follow You Home is The Creeps' sound perfected! Incredible lead and backing vocals, bright and shiny guitar leads over driving rhythms, thick clean bass lines over precision drum beats... it's all there. It's hard to imagine them getting any better than this, but then again it has been and upward trend ever since their beginning...

CREEPS, THELakeside Cabin from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Originally released in 2008 on CD only by Black Pint Records, Lakeside Cabin is finally getting the vinyl treatment. In addition to the new format, the already excellent cover art has been improved upon with a fantastic reworked layout. Having released three albums prior to this one, Lakeside Cabin is the album in which The Creeps really broke out of the mold they had started out in and found their own sound. You can hear the transition from old to new throughout the album. While tracks such as "Bury The Bodies," "The Creeps Are A Gas" and "Long Way Home" echo the style of The Creeps' former albums, "All The Way Home" and "Baby, Hold On Tight" showcase a much more eclectic style with the addition of strings and funky bass lines. "Voices (Again And Again)" and "Palisades" also introduce new elements into the mix in the form of acoustic guitars and those absolutely perfect sparse backing vocals. Everything The Creeps released prior to Lakeside Cabin is good, but everything released after is absolutely essential. This album is a great place to start if you're just getting into The Creeps. Includes download code! 1st pressing is 500 copies on Green vinyl!

CRUMBS / RIDICULES from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Crumbs have been making noise down in Miami for 15 years now. Their unmistakable 1950's classic rock n roll meets 1970's pre-punk style has been evolving ever since. Their two tracks on this record stand up to the best the band's ever done before. A few members have come and gone over the years - on this record they are joined by Joe Koontz of Against All Authority. Making their first vinyl appearance, fellow Miami residents, The Ridicules bring two tracks of a newer take on the pop punk rock n roll style to the flipside of this split. Their songs combine elements of the catchy up beat traditional pop punk sound with a healthy dose of grit and guts, not unlike a lot of the better music currently evolving up and out of the pop punk underground.

DAN PADILLAAs the Ox Plows from It's Alive/Razorcake Records/Dirt Cult
Available in our NEW STORE!

Dan Padilla is Gene Doney, Davey Quinn, J Wang, and Matty. They live in San Diego, California and formed in 2005. Davey and J. are also in Tiltwheel. Gene’s in Sunnyside. Matty’s in Madison Bloodbath. There is little (if anything at all) that I can say about music that Todd Taylor can't say better. So sparing you my feeble effort, please read what my man had to say over at www.razorcake.org: "In every town or city with a DIY punk scene, there’s always a small core of people who continually get shit done. For going on two decades, members of Dan Padilla have been setting up and running shows, recording, helping touring bands with food, floors, and friendship. They’ve been all-around DIY ambassadors. They also all like to drink. A lot. Like “after this case and the next case, we only have three cases and a couple 750s. We’re running low” drinking. This isn’t boasting, competitive drinking. Often, it’s not fun drinking. Let’s face it. If you’re over thirty, have moved out of your parents’ house, and come to realize that “anarchy!” means no bridges, public libraries, streets, or fire departments, idealism’s a much harder pill to swallow; especially when you’re looking at it through possible liver damage. But the dudes in Dan Padilla have fought hard to remain ethical, moral, and honest well after more vocal members of the DIY punk community have “moved on” to the comfort and status quo they once claimed to despise and swore they’d “burn to the ground.” Dan Padilla just wants some public space and the freedom to play what they’ve created… and the cops can still go fuck themselves. It’d be pretty hard to find four other guys whose musical self- depreciation matches their talent for rough-hewn, yet melodic music. And let’s make sure we’re all wearing the same watches: Dudes in this band preceded the existence of Hot Water Music, so roll any bandwagons back into the barn. Dan Padilla play punk that could be soul. It could also be country. It’s versatile. It doesn’t contradict the spirit of either Naked Raygun or Otis Redding while embracing both in completely inobvious ways. It’s gruff-voiced, cuddly underbelly, hard-earned DIY punk with secret, catchy-yet-twisted, and drought-hardened guitar lines that scrape the listener like running through a dense thicket of chaparral. Burritofornia will ever be in their debt and probably won’t ever know it..." - Todd Taylor

Expect the worst. Nothing has ever happened in your time on this planet that makes any other philosophy hold water. People all over the world have different coping mechanisms against the existential crush. Some find religion, some find suicide, some start a shitty pop punk band and tear through their years in an inebriated rage of blind partying. The Dopamines have a reputation of being a “party band,” but Vices is no party. It's a hard pill to swallow, and not the fun kind that leaves you falling down the stairs. If Expect The Worst was the raging party last night, this record is the long, hard look in the mirror the morning after. This time around, The Dopamines are dealing with the shit they got fucked up to forget about. And the list of shit to get fucked up to forget about flows longer than the Ohio River. Yet, somehow, the record doesn't sound dark. It's full of catchy tunes, and only when you get them in your head and start singing along do the pieces all start to come together. This record is a paradox, and a damn catchy one. Hooks reveal themselves to be full of terrible thoughts, inescapable and growing louder. Herein lies the real trick to Vices, what really sets The Dopamines apart from their peers. They make the darkness sound appealing by sweeping it under a rug of harmonies and melodies. And by the time you know the record's secrets, you can't walk away from it. Everything on Vices works together so well. It amazes me how a group of dudes with so little going for them can make a record with so much going for it. And before you know it, it's over. You start it up again, catching a buzz during your first listen. By the end of the second, you're wasted, pants around your ankles, pop punk perfection blasting out of your stereo, completely unaware that this might actually not be an appropriate group of songs to party to. But who cares? Life is shit. So, we expect the worst, because it's all we have experience dealing with. It's all we know, it's all we have, it's what we are. But whether slowly through the years or quickly with a handful of pills, we have an awesome new record to jam while we kill ourselves.

Fear Of Lipstick's self-titled debut album is a slice of everyday life, love and social commentary set to the tune of straight- forward pop punk rock. They play it passionate; giving it all they got. The guitars are loud, bright and punchy as all hell, the bass is fast and frisky, the drums get it done, and the lead vocals go for the guts every time. This is a summertime album all the way.

  FESTIPALSGold Magic from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Festipals are four friends who get together to write and record great music to play at various festival type shows throughout the year. They are all currently and formerly in other bands including Charlie Brown Gets A Valentine, Dead Mechanical, Sick Sick Birds, Nancy and The AV Club. Each member brings something special to the band that can be found in the tunes of all their other bands, but when combined with one another as Festipals it makes for something all together different and its own special kind of awesome. A super group by any other name is still a super group, so call it what you will. Up until this record they only had a few self-released cd-r's which were all given away and traded for beers at shows. Catch 'em live and I bet you this 7" will cost you no more than a cup of whatever's on tap.

GATEWAY DISTRICTPerfect's Gonna Fail from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Back in print on vinyl! Sophomore album from Minneapolis' Gateway District following up 2009's "Some Days You Get The Thunder." Once again recorded, mixed and mastered by Jacques Wait at The Terrarium. Featuring members of Dear Landlord, Banner Pilot, The Soviettes and Rivethead!

GATEWAY DISTRICTSome Days You Get the Thunder from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Gateway District is one of the latest and definitely greatest bands to come out of the Minneapolis, MN scene. Members include Maren (of the Soviettes and Salteens), Carrie (of American Monsters and Salteens), Brad (of Dear Landlord and Rivethead) and Nate (of Banner Pilot, OWTH and Rivethead). Call it a super-group, a side project or whatever you want. All three songwriters bring a style of their own to this album, making for a great mix of character and approach from song to song. The artwork is fantastic, with a 16-page full color booklet. Each band member contributed art for each of their songs, so again, three styles come together to make for an awesome whole. Some days you get the thunder... This is gonna be one of those days!

GET BENTDead It from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Get Bent seem to draw their sound from a wide, varied pool of influences. So much so that it's hard to very clearly identify and pick out any of them, much less all of them. They certainly haven't reinvented the wheel, but maybe they've just crafted a sound so much their own that they are their own biggest influence. The three tracks that make up Dead It are the last Get Bent ever recorded. There's a pretty big and constantly growing scene in and around New York City, with a ton of bands making great music. Andy, Jared, Mike and Gerge have probably played in half of them. Get Bent will be missed. **members of Potboiler, Down In The Dumps, Jonesin', Red & Blue, State Lottery, Thousandries

HOUSE BOATThe Delaware Octopus from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

What do you get when you take Grath and Azeem from The Steinways and put them in a band with Zack Off With Their Dear Landlord Heads and Mikey Erg [SA]? House Boat, that's what you get! More specifically, The Delaware Octopus. And what's The Delaware Octopus? Shit if I know! But I can tell you it's catchy, it's clever, it's cynical and it's one of the best pop punk albums you're ever going to hear! Short, sweet and the point... whatever that point may be!

LEGENDARY SAN DIEGO CHARGERS / SUNNYSIDEGive 'em Enough Booze from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Earlier this year San Diego's Sunnyside did a west coast tour with Minnesota's Pretty Boy Thorson & The Fallin' Angels. Pretty Boy were touring as a three piece instead of their usual five. On top of that, Brad Landlord was filling in on drums. Apparently they didn't know how to play too many PBT songs, and The Legendary San Diego Chargers were born out of the mess! If you took the country out of PBT, the punk rock core you'd be left with is exactly what TLSDC sound like - hard driving, singalong songs with a bunch of gravel in the guts. Sunnyside are everything that was and is great about the San Diego punk sound of the glory days when pop punk was big shit down there. They know how to put together a catchy tune without any of the unnecessary glitzy garbage. The vocals are unpolished and harsh at best - a perfect match for the crunchy pop punk music it fronts. This is the first of near forty releases we've put out to date with a southern California band. We were waiting for something gnarly and got just that.

MALL'D TO DEATHThe Process of Reaching Out from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Mall'd To Death is what happens when you take that Minneapolis punk rock Dillinger-core sound, add some Jeff Ott-esque vocal growlings, mix in some mid-nineties melodic punk sound of the EpiFat variety (complete with the occasional ska-punk breakdown!), put together some meaningful songs about life and personal politics, follow those up with some silly songs about important shit like video games and graffiti, and then round it all out with some of that good ol' J Church! It's like Mall Punk if "Mall Punk" meant a little bit of everything under one roof. I was totally taken by surprise and blown away by Mall'd To Death's debut full length Can't Make A Living released last year on CD by GC Records on and then on vinyl earlier this year by Bitter Melody Records. The Process Of Reaching Out is Mall'd To Death's second release of what I hope to be many more to come. I don't know of another band out there that really sounds anything like these guys. It's fresh and in that way reminds me of when I was first discovering punk rock. **Includes a download code!

MANGESRocket to Hollywood from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Manges bring a ton of energy and excellent musicianship with them every time they take a stage. Much like their heroes the Ramones they make every live show count. This live album plays more like a greatest hits or best of album - all hits without any misses. There are a couple of Ramones covers thrown in for good measure, of course. Rocket To Hollywood was recorded during the summer of 2007 at Safari Sams in Hollywood, CA while on their third tour of the states, this time with The Queers and The Methadones. It was a great show start to finish and this recording captured the fun-loving spirit of the night perfectly. A split release with Cheapskate Records (Conecticut, USA), Squinty Joe Records (UK) and Peabrain Records (Denmark).

MANIX, THENeighborhood Wildlife from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Enough is enough. Minneapolis punk bands seriously need to take a year or two off and let the rest of the country catch up with their awesomeness. It really is getting ridiculous how many incredible bands call that city home. Being the land of a thousands lakes, I gotta believe it is something in the goddamn water. Sure, many of the bands coming out of MPLS have similar sounding styles, but why is that a bad thing if their styles of choice kick my ass every time? The Manix are the latest musical champions from this magical land to have graced It's Alive Records with the privilege to release a record of theirs. Their debut album Neighborhood Wildlife is packed with a dozen jams that absolutely kill it with every listen! The songs showcase a great mix of the shoutalong go-for-broke anthems super-prevalent in the basement scene of today's midwest and the ultra catchy head-bopping melodies that are the core of all pop punk past and present. The lyrics are smart, thoughtful and heartfelt without any hints of trying too hard to be anything they aren't. The album was mixed at mastered by Jacques Wait - the man behind the boards for many an album from other MPLS locals such as Off With Their Heads, The Soviettes, Dear Landlord, Banner Pilot and The Gateway District - so you know this shit sounds tight! Frontdude Corey Ayd spends his time away from The Manix as a member of the professional punk rock group Banner Pilot, so there's a whole wealth of incredible music to feed off of right there. Drummer Mike Cranberry also plays in Nato Cole's latest rock group The Blue Diamond Band and is the sweetest dude on planet earth. Second vocalist and guitarist Steve used to be in The Turkletons, so that's pretty much gonna sell a thousand copies of this album right there. Tyler was something like 12 years old when he played on this album, but left the band to pursue a high school education or something like that. Joe, formerly of Amen And The Hell Yeahs has replaced him and totally upped The Manix drunx punx points. How these kids in their early 20's come off sounding like the new reigning champs of punk rock I have no idea, but they do... It's gotta be the fucking water! **MEMBERS OF BANNER PILOT & THE BLUE DIAMOND BAND

MAXIES, THEGoing Clubbin' from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Greenland is melting! Is global warming to blame? Definitely. But it's not climate shift... it's the motherfucking Maxies! These assholes may be jerks of the highest order, but they sure know how to melt faces (and polar ice caps) with their power pop punk jams! It's Alive Records in incredibly proud to present The Maxies' first domestic release, Going Clubbin'. Having already dominated the airwaves of Greenland and Iceland (Fuck those guys!), The Maxies have taken their act south in an effort to attain world domination. Their weapons of choice? Killer hooks, infectious melodies, bad attitudes and ridiculous costumes. This band's better than your band. That's all you need to know. **Includes a download code!

  METHADONESGary Glitter from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

"Gary Glitter" - the first 7" release by The Methadones - picks up right where their "21st Century Power Pop Riot" album left off with an ode to the king of glam himself. On the opening track "Gary Glitter", The Methadones proudly display their love for the man's music with the song's stomping beat, slick riffs and gang vocal choruses, but in lyric show a distaste for the man himself by asking plain and simple, "What the fuck is wrong with Gary Glitter?" The flipside of the ep features the straight up pop punk gem "Over The Moon." Few people can write a song as catchy and perfect in its simplicity as front man Dan Schafer. This EP showcases The Methadones ability to not only write and record different styles of music, but to excel at it!

SASS DRAGONSNew Kids on the Bong from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Sass Dragons are back! These dudes broke up a couple of years ago shortly after the CD release of this album. But they are back together again so we teamed up with No Breaks Records to get them started back up right where they left off. New Kids On The Bong is an epic album. I don't use the word "epic" lightly, mind you. Sass Dragons were and are one of thee best punk rock bands of the past decade or two and NKOTB is recorded proof of that claim. These Chicagoans know how to write a tune and play the shit out of it. While most of the jams on this album are of the poppy punk variety, there is also a handful of cut-loose thrash jams, straight up tear jerker monster ballads, pro radio style talent tunes and even a goddamn ho-down hobo classic! Eclectic? Yeah, and then some. Banjo, saxaphone, acoustic guitars and keyboards all work their way into this album and it ain't no thing at all. It's like that shit was always used in punk rock and you just never noticed. Sass Dragons forever!

  SHELLSHAGShellshag Forever from Don Giovanni
Available in our NEW STORE!

Listening to Shellshag is like listening to a 15-year story of punk love and DIY tours, a sentiment that is summed up all over the Brooklyn-via-San Francisco’s new record, Shellshag Forever. The album follows 2010’s Rumors in Disguise – a record marked by huge hooks and a fuzzy balance of sweet and sludgy pop punk. That all surfaces Shellshag Forever, except that here Shell and Shag’s songs sound clearer and more fully-formed than ever. “We’ll raise a family, building lots of memories /and grow old together, what could be better?” asks the lead single, “Face to Face”, an apt title for the sort of punk band who plays every show facing each other, with John Shell on guitar and Jen Shag standing playing drums, wearing a belt full of sleighbells for added percussion, singing both into a Y-shaped mic. “We’ll keep playing shows from Brooklyn to ole ‘Frisco / and grow old together, what could be better?” It’s a song about Shellshag, about crisscrossing the country together since the 90s, about keeping punk dreams alive. Jen Shag and John Shell play seemingly bare-bones guitar-and-drunks pop-inflicted punk songs, but listen closely and the simplest of lyrics are embedded with meaning. “Sweet Hoodie” seems like a song about Shell’s old sweatshirt but is actually the story of their entire relationship and the memories worn and torn into it; it’s about meeting and being young, playing punk rock shows, about forgiving yourself and others, making mistakes, falling in love. Shellshag Forever is a microcosmic glimpse into the life of Shell and Shag. This record also showcases their individual songwriting, with some of the strongest tracks being the Shell-sung “Come Down” and Shag-sung “I Love You Anyway”. The most resonant moments are always when they sing together though. Mid-way through, the duo sings in harmony on “Forever”, over the hum of Shell’s fuzzy riff and Shag’s steady minimal drum, summing up this record and the general essence of Shellshag: “I just can’t picture me and you in any other life, this is what we are meant to do forever.” “This album is very Shellshag,” says the band. “The themes, as usual, are unique to our personal experience in the world we have created for ourselves, from our homemade gear, to us pleasing ourselves and playing for each other. We have developed a consistent sound now and have really let the vocals fly on this record. This record falls in right in line with were we left of with Rumors from the artwork to the content.” “We can’t picture any other life,” they continue. “We get what we choose and we choose Shellshag and we both know it. We are sure. We are Shellshag forever.”

SPINOFFS, THEStayin' Alive from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

"Mutant Pop Records played a huge role in my own personal musical history. It not only exposed me to a number of fantastic pop punk bands by way of releases and the 1,000 Flowers mailorder and distro, but it also provided me with hours of enjoyment reading the monthly catalogs - later turned full- fledged zine - and weeks of excitement; anticipating the day I would come home to find my mailbox full of new records to spin. I started my own record label nearly a decade after Tim had started Mutant Pop, and sadly nearly half a decade after he called it a day (for the first time anyway). I have never been shy to say that along with Stardumb Records, Mutant Pop was the biggest influence and inspiration for how I wanted It’s Alive to operate as a label, but also to act as a documentation for what was happening in the underground. Tim’s final go-around with Mutant Pop ended with a couple of records left in limbo between plating and release. One of these was The Spinoffs “Stayin’ Alive” EP, originally slated to be released as MP-47. The band had intended to ask It’s Alive to release the EP (hence the first track and title of the record), but understandably jumped at the chance to be part of the Mutant Pop catalog when the opportunity arose. It made all the sense in the world to rescue this record from oblivion and release it ourselves! It is the closest thing we could do to co-releasing a record with the inimitable Mutant Pop - the plates are 100% MP; read the etchings! The Spinoffs are a great representation of a pop punk band doing their own unique thing in their own special way, just the way MP and IAR like it." - Adam / It's Alive

STEINWAYSPromise It'll Never Happen Again from Don Giovanni / It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

I am not exactly sure what The Steinways are promising will never happen again, but if it has anything to do with making, playing, recording or releasing music, I hope they are proven to be liars someday! Listening to all of these songs collected from singles, splits, compilations and Grath's iPod made me remember why I loved them so much when they were still around - they made some of the most fun and fantastic pop punk music of the past decade! "Promise It'll Never Happen Again" collects remastered versions of every song ever released by The Steinways that didn't appear on either of their two full length albums. Two tracks are being released for the first time, another was only available on a not-exactly-available-for-sale wedding gift 7" that only 150 copies of exist, and the first eleven are being made available in digital format (iTunes and the like, as well as download codes included with all copies of the LP) for the first time... officially anyway. If you missed the boat on The Steinways the first time, this is the perfect place to start. For existing fans, it's a great way to remember how good you had it when they were still around.

STONED AT HEARTParty Tracks Vol. 1 from Recess Records/It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

**Vinyl includes download code for entire album plus the demo versions! **Stoned At Heart is Todd, Jimmy, Chachi (Toys That Kill & Underground Railroad To Candyland) and Jessica (Baby J, Can Of Beans)! Stoned At Heart: We got together less than a year ago. I forgot why? I guess outta mutual love for each other's songs, me and Baby J. Chachi and Jimmy make those songs sound waaay better than they were intended. We made plans to record (demo or whatever) and it fell right in the midst of us recording The Underground Railroad to Candyland in our own Clown Sound Studio (in my garage). So we decided "just one weekend and then back to URTC". We were so happy with the SAH sessions that we scrapped the current URTC session only to re-do it the right way! The learning curve is a motherfucker, yet a nice motherfucker indeed.-Todd Congelliere

  THAT'S INCREDIBLEThat's Incredible from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

That's Incredible are a new four-piece band from San Pedro, California made up of current and former members of Toys That Kill, The Soviettes, Killer Dreamer and Dick Army. Their debut release bears influence of their other bands' signature styles, but it has an awesome new sound and style all its own coming from the chemistry created by the combining of them all into one. Three lead vocalists each with a distinct, varying style will keep you guessing what's next from song to song. They play straight forward, poppy and thrashy punk jams. The band name really says it all... This record is incredible! All copies come with digital download code!

VARSITY WEIRDOSCan't Go Home from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

The Varsity Weirdos are back with their fourth release and first full-length album for It’s Alive Records. When everything has been done, go back to the start and do it again. Do it right. Do it better than it’s been done before. When it comes to classic pop punk it all starts and ends with the Ramones. The Varsity Weirdos are one of the few bands hanging from the Ramones family tree that somehow manage to take what’s been done, but make it sound all their own - a rare feat in the post Screeching Weasel and Queers world. They don’t do it by adding unnecessary extras for the sake of it. They don’t do it by merging the tried and true with some new and improved garbage. They simply do it by playing true to what they love. Sincerity goes a long way in a genre filled mostly with songs about bubblegum and the junior prom. You either hate the genre or you love it - there’s very little room for fence-sitting. Can’t Go Home might not make converts out of any of the haters, but it’s sure to serve as a strong reminder to all the lovers why they still give a shit about classic pop punk.

WEEKEND DADSWeekend Dads from It's Alive
Available in our NEW STORE!

Weekend Dads get their jam on in the land that lies somewhere between the classic four-chord down-stroking pop punk of yesteryear and the shout-it-out-loud super-charged anthems of today's modern pop punkers. They've taken two subgenres that have been done to death and put them together in a style that bridges the gap between the sugary sweet and hopelessly bleak. Their debut release is by no means a reinvention of the wheel, but more like a ride through a neighborhood you've been to a thousand times before, only this time you're taking the side streets and alleyways you always overlooked. The best shit is always in places you least expect to find it... places like Moncton, New Brunswick! Includes download code!
