CALIFORNIA X California X LP/CD from Don Giovanni - In less than a year, Amherst trio California X have emerged from basements and punk practice spaces of Massachusetts as one of the tightest new garage punk bands in the Northeast, teetering between various pockets of the punk spectrum drawing influence from the worlds of noisy 80s Western Mass rock, fuzzy 90s garage pop, and classic post-hardcore SST sounds. Fronted by main songwriter Lemmy Gurtowsky, their debut LP for Don Giovanni follows one prior release, a double A-side single Sucker b/w Mummy out via the UKs Sound of Sweet Nothing label. From start to finish, the records eight hook-heavy tracks of melodic guitar punk could all be singles: the noisy vox and huge grungy riffs on Curse of the Nightmare; the slower-burning head-banging pulse of Pond Rot; the shoegaze-inflicted fleshed-out melodies of Lemmys World. Songs like Hot Hed feels so essential youll wonder how theyre not actually from some long-lost punk tapes of the 1980s Western Mass. Appropriately, the band recorded the album in MA with Justin Pizzoferrato, previously a collaborator with Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr and though California X sound like they could have been contemporaries with those bands, theyre also carving out their own space in a lineage of their hometowns punk history. ""I want a pond to rot in" isn't exactly a call to arms, but as the refrain from California X's first single off their upcoming self-titled debut, it's tough to think of anything that more accurately describes their goals of self-actualization. If "grunge" or "swamp-rock" wasn't already part of the public lexicon, they're amongst the first two descriptors you'd levy on "Pond Rot." The riffs are thick and slow, yet maintain a surprisingly viscous sense of melody that isn't obscured by the heavy fuzz, while the vocals sag like they're wrapped in worn flannel. Here, the Amherst, MA trio are forthrightly acknowledging a debt to hometown heroes Dinosaur Jr., embracing the primordial pop sense of their earliest work while picking up at the point where they finally got some decent production." - PITCHFORK LISTEN TO "Pond Rot" : http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/14591-pond-rot/ LP out of stock

CASSETTE Cassette CD from Bakery Outlet - Cassette is Samantha Jones. Though the live and recorded manifestations of Cassette may take on many forms--sometimes alone and unguarded with just acoustic guitar and voice, while at other times backed by a rotating band of friends--the songs and the warm, compassionate, inviting feelings projected from them are wholly Samantha. Known by many from her days with bands like Rumbleseat, Bitchin', and Crustaceans, Samantha's work in Cassette is a departure from her past. All defenses have been lowered, and we are welcomed into the heart of Samantha's experience- told in a frank, honest, and organic voice. The themes vary on the album from songs that express heartbreak in terms that even the most heartbroken can relate to, to skillfully woven narratives that make listeners feel as though the singer is giving heartfelt advice directly to them. The tracks reflect a spectrum of musical influence from the country twang of "Spring's Gone" to the jazzy lilt of "Thirst Like Water." With this self titled release, Cassette has produced a record in the vein of David Grubbs, Will Oldham, and Lucinda Williams. On this particular manifestation, Cassette is Samantha on guitar and vocals, backed by Stirling Krusing (piano), Gabriel Galvin (drums & percussion), and Matt Radick (bass and cello), all resident musicians of Gainesville, Florida. The arrangements on the album are beautiful and complimentary. No single instrument struggles for attention, which allows the focus to fall on the songs, and Samantha's literate, insightful lyrics. Samantha has a voice that's hard to encapsulate with words.?Her talent is timeless and comparable to?classic singers like Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, or Emmylou Harris. She sings so good it'll make your heart ache. BUY CD:$8.50

CASSETTE Shining Like a New Dime CDep from Bakery Outlet - Samantha Jones returns with new cast once again as Cassette to touch base with a new ep of beautiful compositions. Songs of simplicity, layers, folk, wisdom, reverb, melody, motherhood, string arrangements, and even a few electronic beats. Songs written by a woman who has given to more aggressive bands before such as vanbuilderass, Crustaceans, Bitchin', Slang, and currently Honest Arrow. Oh yes, she also played in Rumbleseat. Recorded with Bakery Outlet's Leonard Rutland at his house Electriclennyland with children and dogs present. --Rich BUY CDep:$6.00

They play a brand of punk that is infused with pop, lacks overly hard edges (not a criticism) and all are/were fronted by a female. In the case of Caves, the female is Louise Hanman, who also plays guitar, backed up by a particularly tight rhythm section of Dave Brent on drums and Jonathan Minto on bass." - Punknews.org SUNDIALS: "If you enjoy the sunny, jangly, '90s alt-rock-influenced punk sounds of fellow upstarts Failures' Union, this should be directly up your alley. CHEAP TRAGEDIES Cheap Tragedies 7" from High Anxiety / No Idea - ** First Press: 3 vinyl colors left to ponder! ** Cleveland's finest needs no introduction in DIY hardcore, from the first generation Clevo-core of Face Value to his place in the rise of chaotic, volatile hardcore in the 90's. When the Kids were sitting cross-legged on VFW Hall floors, Erba & Co. was throwing hammers at them with bands like H100s and 9 SHOCKS TERROR. Erba saved my life, showed my me a lot of really sick snuff, and once staple gunned a hat to my head. Still pissed, he's teamed up with some sweet dudes who've put in their own time in bands like COMMITTED, HOLY FUCKING CRAP, IRON TEETH, NAMES FOR GRAVES, AMPS II ELEVEN, and THE LOVEKILL. Pissed off punk rants that could only come from the working class midwest, plus 2 covers of early 80's Cleveland legends the Guns. - Chris Colohan BUY 7":$3.00

CHINESE TELEPHONES Chinese Telephones LP/CD from It's Alive - The self-titled debut album from Chinese Telephones was first released in November 2007. It was pretty much instantly sold out and repressed the following month in December 2007. By early 2008 it was gone again. The band had called it a day not long after, so we left this album out of print. A couple years later Chinese Telephones were playing some shows here and there and eventually went out for a couple of tours. Fast forward to 2010, the band was officially back to active status and has been playing out since. It seems dumb not to have this album in print for as long as this incredible band is out stoking the old fans and winning over new ones. So here we are releasing the third pressing of one of the absolute best records we've ever been lucky enough to have released. All copies have been pressed on yellow/blue split color vinyl and come with a download code. If you missed it the first time, get it now! If you already have it and want a copy that's really cool to look at, go for it! This album is goddamn modern classic! BUY LP:$10.00

CHINESE TELEPHONES Democracy LP/CD from It's Alive/Sandwich Man - Chinese Telephones... Democracy... get it? Well, if you don't get the Guns N Roses "Chinese Democracy" joke in there I won't hold it against you. That piece of crap took them something like a decade to get released. So, to keep the parody of a joke as true to form as we could, we took forever and a day to get this LP out! The CD version has been out for a good long while now. If you know what's good for you, you already own it. But even if you do, you might wanna pick up this LP version. Not only does it have both songs from the Art Of The Underground Single Series 7" on it, which the CD did not, but it's also been entirely re- mastered by Justin Perkins. That dude knows what he's doing with all the switches and knobs! BUY LP:$10.00

CHINESE TELEPHONES / DEAR LANDLORD 7" from Recess Records/It's Alive - "I had to scroll down this lackluster, at best, Dreamweaver file to find out when the last time i did a split 7". Lets just agree that its been awhile. I dunno why cos its a format that got me thru years of shitty throwaway B sides and turned me onto some pretty great bands. Ah ok enough "those were the days" crap! Dear Landlord is Zack & Half Pint from Rivethead and Fletcher & Brett from The Copyrights. Obviously if you liked any one of those bands you will love their side of this! Zach has not skipped a beat with his great songs. For those of you who wished Rivethead never broke up can stop throwing their stupid pennys in the well now. Chinese Telephones are consistently recording some great stuff! I think they are a hybrid of D4 and The Marked Men. If you heard their great side off The Potential Johns split 12" then your already hooked. go for it! Split release with the lovely It's Alive Records." - Todd/Recess BUY 7":$3.75

CHRIS WOLLARD & THE SHIP THIEVES NEW! Chris Wollard & The Ship Thieves LP/CD from No Idea - Back in stock on vinyl! We love Wollard. That's a given, right? Well, that said, Chris defies expectations by turning in an album of varied songs, ranging from rockers to acoustic gems, to sleepy soundtracks for an all-night drive. In amongst the traditional sounds are tasteful flourishes and touches that you notice more each time you give it a spin. Not only that, but we went all-out on the fancy packaging this time around: CD: Elegant 8-panel fold-out Digipack. Will not clean your toilet, but might do the windows if you tip. LP: Elegant jacket + huge 2-sided, full-color, six-panel, fold-out insert (11" x 33"). Colored vinyl. Download coupon. May or may not come over and do your laundry for a slice of your pizza. From ALTERNATIVE PRESS, 4 out of 5 stars: "These days, there are as many country-rocking singer / songwriters as there are baristas in LA with head shots. So Chris Wollard's solo debut, & The Ship Thieves, isn't going to grab anyone by the lapels like Andy Dick on a bender; its charm is a longer game. Wollard's moody, drawling croon wins your confidence slowly with each successive encounter. Though largely driven by folksy, acoustic strumming, Wollard does tap the electricity of his day jobs (HOT WATER MUSIC & THE DRAFT) for the ringing power-pop opener "No Exception" and "All The Things You Know." Songs like these contribute to the [album's] steady momentum, as Wollard mixes it up without muddying the disc's reflective tone. This attitude is epitomized by the jangly album highlight "Oh Whatever" with its self-indicting chorus. The arrangements are prim without being austere, placing Wollard's diffident, shuffling vocals center stage. The album feels as breezy as it does wistful, and lingers like memories of summer vacation. (Chris Parker) BUY LP:$10.00

CHRIST ON PARADE Loud & Live LP/CD from Prank - 13 tracks recorded live on their 2007 West Coast tour on KFJC radio, this represents the set the "all original members" band played on both their West Coast and European tours featuring classic tracks from all eras of the band, with original vocalist Barrie picking up some of the second vocal duties of the later material. It was re-mixed from its original broadcast, and mastered by George Horn Mastering. CHRIST ON PARADE's reunions, including a recent successful one of Japan, have been marked by dedication to presenting the band as they are and were - the equipment and the sound, attack and intent are not falsely "updated" or "modernized", and while this record does peek through a lighter side of the band inbetween tracks, it's very true to their original records and will stoke out both old and new fans. LP's are on Green vinyl and limited to 550 Copies, CD's are limited to 600. CHRIST ON PARADE Sounds of Nature LP/CD from Prank/Neurot - Classic East Bay Hardcore delivered in a whirlwind of speed and anger, with blunt political punk lyrics! This is a re-issue of CHRIST ON PARADE's earliest material, out of print for nearly two decades - the original "Sounds Of Nature" 12" from 1985 on one side, then tracks from THRASHER magazine's Skaterock Vol.3 Compilation, the original, unreleased version of the "Isn't Life A Dream" 7" and an unreleased AVENGERS cover on the flip. The packaging of the LP closely replicates the original "Sounds Of Nature" EP on Pusmort Records, with a large 11x22" insert of the orginal inner sleeve, complete lyrics and full color photos. Members of CHRIST ON PARADE went on to play in NEUROSIS, BLISTER, HELLBILLYS, PLAN 9, ECONOCHRIST and more. CD version available on NEUROT recordings. CITY MOUSE City Mouse 7" from It's Alive - City Mouse has been kicking around for quite a few years now. Though the line-up has seen many changes over time, the awesomeness of the passionate and heavy-hitting songs has constantly been improving with each new incarnation of the band. Mainstay front-woman Miski Dee Rodriguez knows how to write a solid pop jam and can belt out the whoa-mama lead vocals like nobody's business! The four tracks that make up this s/t vinyl debut release are reminiscent of the mid-nineties pop punk rock n roll that was being played by some of the toughest ladies of punk rock from the midwest and upper south at the time - powerful, sultry lead vocals over an incredibly melodic, driving rhythm. Danzig-approved. BUY 7":$4.00

City of Ships had me hooked from beginning to end." - Razorcake "This takes me back to a time of discovering exciting new sounds in the underground scene that really blew minds, from Kerosene 454 to Ethel Meserve " bands unhindered by genre and expressing endless enthusiasm for just playing great music. City of Ships are hard to describe and easy to enjoy, both great things." - Exclaim Magazine On CLEAR w/MAROON HAZE or WHITE vinyl! BUY LP:$11.00

CITY OF SHIPS Minor World LP from Sound Study Recordings - The force that is City of Ships bring us their sophomore LP. The monstrous guitars and thundering rhythm section are still there but this time the band brings even more texture, even bigger atmospheres. Don't worry though, they will still rip your head off when they need to. These ten tracks shine through Andrew Schnieder's skillful production. The Jernigan brothers (plus Rob) prove once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. Digital download included! **1st pressing is 500 copies on 210 gram black vinyl BUY LP:$11.00
CITY OF SHIPS "Three Mile Bridge/South Laurel" 7" from Sound Study Recordings - City of Ships rip through two new songs on this 7". It's heavy. It's dynamic. It's gritty yet precise, a giant wall of layered guitars and raging drums. It's a little technical and a lot melodic. It's really good. Includes a download code that gets you a bonus track in the form of the band covering M83's "Don't Save Us From The Flames." "Pulling fragments of drone metal, post-punk and hardcore to craft what is almost a Pixies-ish identity crisis that's far more enigmatic, layered and engaging than its influences, this is the what one expects something to sound like when people use that emotive punk tag. Go figure, it takes some metal dudes to actually achieve it." -Exclaim! "I don't wanna say "metal" or "sophisticated," because both of those terms denote a certain lack of visceral punk-rock catharsis, and City of Ships still has that shit in spades. It's just more layered, more dynamic, and a bit more note-y; guitar textures rise and fall, giving a more subtle shape to the shadows in the dark before they just freaking crank it up and come for you. And watch out - they're going to get you." -REAX "enough mosh for the inebriated adrenaline junkies and enough technicality for the complexity-fed heavy music hipsters." -decoymusic.com BUY 7":$3.75
CIVIC MINDED FIVE / THE BLACKS 7" from Recess Records - "One of the most underrated albums in the last 5 years is THE BLACKS HATE YOU LIKE GOLD. THE BLACKS ruled cos behind the twisted damage lied an undeniable catchiness thats usually unheard of with this type of stuff. I think maybe KARP is the only other band i can think of right now that had this kinda character. Sometime between the LP and this split 7" we lost THE BLACKS frontman CHAD KERR. CLASSICS OF LOVE Classics Of Love LP/CD from Asian Man - Classics of Love began in February of 2008 when Jesse Michaels, former lead singer of East Bay mainstays Operation Ivy, joined forces with San Jose's Hard Girls. Initially formed as a project to demo a few songs Michaels was working on, the members discovered that they had good musical compatibility and decided to form an ongoing band. After some early touring Classics offered up their first EP, 2009's Walking in Shadows which served up 6 songs of mid-tempo punk in the traditional East Bay vein: catchy, energetic and gritty. The following 2 years saw the band playing selective shows and slowly developing their sound. During this period, Classics incorporated other musical influences including a few ska and rock songs and most notably a barrage of up-tempo numbers heavily influenced by early 1980's Hardcore. 2011 saw the recording of their self titled full-length to be released on Asian Man Records in February of 2012. The record features a slew of high energy tracks which favors the band's neo-hardcore approach but also includes ska and punk songs as well as a few surprises. Recorded in a raw and unaffected style by local favorite Jack Shirley, Classics of Love's eponymous first record is bound to become a classic in its own right for all those who enjoy punk music which knows its history and looks forward at the same time. COPYRIGHTS Crutches 7" from It's Alive - Crutches is the first single off of The Copyrights' newest album North Sentinel Island. Like all of their jams, it is both instantly recognizable as a Copyrights song, yet at the same time just different enough from previous works to keep you guessing where they are going with it. Having already heard the new album, Crutches is really much more of a teaser than a indicator of what's to come. The safest bet is just to expect the best because every longtime Copyrights fan will tell you each successive album is better than the one before and North Sentinel Island is no exception to that rule. The flipside of this EP contains two demo tracks that didn't make the cut for the final recording of the new album; one a straight forward punk jam. The other a total pop ballad. A band that can nail it both ways is definitely doing something right. **Includes download code! BUY 7":$4.00

COPYRIGHTS North Sentinel Island LP from It's Alive - It's hard to believe it has been eight years since The Copyrights released their first album way back in 2003. Pop punk had long since burst onto the scene, into the big leagues and retreated back to the basements by then, leaving behind the last of the diehards. Among those diehards were The Copyrights. Still teenagers then, these guys took everything good about the old style and made it new again... and better than ever. They were among the first of a few young bands to really take pop punk, turn it on its end and redefine the genre. Eight years, a slew of singles and five full length albums later they are still at it. They continue to define and redefine the genre with each successive album. No two Copyrigths albums sound exactly the same, but they are all unmistakably Copyrights through and through. Bands like this make sticking to the music you love despite all of its lows worth it every day. North Sentinel Island is the best Copyrights album to date. But ask any Copyrights fan and they will have said the same about each new album when it came out. They aren't wrong - this band just gets better and better with each new record. BUY LP:$10.00
COPYRIGHTS NEW! Shit's Fucked 2xLP/CD from It's Alive - The Copyrights hit the ground running in 2002. They pumped life back into the near dead pop punk scene of the time and turned it on its ear. They redefined the pop punk genre and added something it never really had - an anthem. They turned what was once a VFW Hall full of leather jacket Converse Chuck Taylor wearing toe tapping and head bobbing kids into a basement packed with sweat-soaked people of all ages and all kinds going nuts and screaming along with every word to every song while floating crowd surfers and dodging stage divers. Some might think this version of history is fucked, but I challenge them to name a pop punk band that came before The Copyrights that acted as a catalyst to the change of what was the pop punk scene of yesteryear to what is the pop punk scene of today. Sure, many more came after and did a lot for the scene and brought it to new levels, but The Copyrights opened that door and paved that road. The Copyrights have always been thought of as our "house band." We may not have released every album of theirs on every format, but we've released more records of theirs than any other two It's Alive bands combined. Their list of "first times" with It's Alive continues to grow. They were our first release, first 7", first record to go into a second pressing, first band to do more than one release with, first acoustic release, first full length, first 12", first picture disc, first split LP, first gatefold and now first double LP. We always knew our 50th release had to be something special done with a band that was special to our label. So here it is, The Copyrights Shit's Fucked double LP/CD 24-song collection of singles, splits and comp tracks from 2004-2010. Originally slated for release in early 2011, here it is finally seeing the light of day in the middle of 2013. Like the song says, "Shit's fucked, but what can you do..." BUY 2xLP:$18.00

COPYRIGHTS / DOPAMINES Songs About Fucking Up 7" from It's Alive - Two of the very best bands the underground has to offer in the way of melodic-pop-punk-rock. At some point the new-school becomes the old-school, or at least the not-so-new-school. The Copyrights were the new kids on the block seven years ago when they got started, but today have become a band that is inspiring newer, younger acts. The Dopamines are undeniably one of these bands. This EP showcases both bands at their very best doing what they do best - singing about fucking up! 7" out of stock

CREDENTIALS Goocher LP from It's Alive - In a time when it's not only accepted but seemingly encouraged and even applauded for underground independent bands to get their music licensed for video games, car commercials, energy drink sponsorships and shit knows what else, it's nice to know some bands still stand against all that big deal bullshit. The Credentials are one of those bands. Ideals aren't dead and neither is punk. "Goocher" is the band's second album and it's stacked full of anthems shouted out against the bullshit we all see and deal with in day to day life. They don't get all preachy or pretentious with it either. They sing from the heart and go for the guts on every track. Musically The Credentials fall somewhere between the east bay sound of the '90s not unlike Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder and more modern bands like Chinese Telephones and Witches With Dicks. Mix all that up with a little '77 street punk style and crunchy pop punk jams and that's how "Goocher" is gonna rock you! BUY LP:$10.00

CREEPOID NEW! Horse Heaven LP/CD from No Idea - "The Philadelphia quartets impressive debut transcends typical motifsdrifting verses cutting to skyrocketing refrainsand discovers true interplay... Lyrics broadly address addiction, innocence lost, ennui, depression, hope and love. Its aggressive, introspective and a strong opening statement from an exciting band." - Magnet Magazine Philadelphia's CREEPOID mine the quiet side of breathy acoustic / slowcore, then erupt into heavy, hard hitting distortion, all within the course of their debut album "Horse Heaven," and sometimes within a single song. We reckon that CREEPOID have an appreciation for Nick Cave, Red House Painters, and Spain, as well as a compulsion for old records, analog recording gear, and late night hours spent in dank basements. Recommended for fans of Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Yo La Tengo, and My Bloody Valentine. **On LIMITED-TO-500 WHITE vinyl! **LP download code & CD include four bonus songs from their out-of-print first 7" BUY LP:$10.00

CREEPS, THE Follow You Home 7" from It's Alive - The Creeps have been doing their thing for the better part of a decade now. Their first album in 2003 (Gamma Gamma Ray) was very much in the vain of the sci-fi-horror-outter-space meets girls-with-problems pop punk thing popular throughout the late 90's into early 00's. Though they were totally proficient and capable of rocking a good tune, it wasn't anything terribly fresh. Their next album in 2005 (Back To The Bin) had something new to offer in the guitar leads department, but otherwise wasn't too different in style or sound. It was, however, themed from start to finish - something pretty much trademark for the band ever since. 2008 saw the release of their third album (Lakeside Cabin) on which The Creeps really found their own sound. They got comfortable slowing it down and experimenting with song structures and really sparse yet effective backing vocals. Skottie's lead vocals were improved almost to the point of reinvention - they're unmistakable once familiarized with them. Later that year they released their first 7" EP (These Walls). It was on that EP that The Creeps really claimed the sound that is now their own and took a big step out into less trodden territory in the world of pop punk rock. That brings us to now... Follow You Home is The Creeps' sound perfected! Incredible lead and backing vocals, bright and shiny guitar leads over driving rhythms, thick clean bass lines over precision drum beats... it's all there. It's hard to imagine them getting any better than this, but then again it has been and upward trend ever since their beginning... BUY 7":$4.00

CREEPS, THE Lakeside Cabin LP from It's Alive - Originally released in 2008 on CD only by Black Pint Records, Lakeside Cabin is finally getting the vinyl treatment. In addition to the new format, the already excellent cover art has been improved upon with a fantastic reworked layout. Having released three albums prior to this one, Lakeside Cabin is the album in which The Creeps really broke out of the mold they had started out in and found their own sound. You can hear the transition from old to new throughout the album. While tracks such as "Bury The Bodies," "The Creeps Are A Gas" and "Long Way Home" echo the style of The Creeps' former albums, "All The Way Home" and "Baby, Hold On Tight" showcase a much more eclectic style with the addition of strings and funky bass lines. "Voices (Again And Again)" and "Palisades" also introduce new elements into the mix in the form of acoustic guitars and those absolutely perfect sparse backing vocals. Everything The Creeps released prior to Lakeside Cabin is good, but everything released after is absolutely essential. This album is a great place to start if you're just getting into The Creeps. CROW Bloody Tear LP from Prank - Bombastic crust-metal from Tokyo, an ultra brutal lightning attack of searing riffs, wild solos, screaming vocals and crushing rhythm section. Bleak intent and searing metallic mayhem, CROW have dotted the landscape of Japanese hardcore punk since its inception and just seem to get more devastating with age!! This is a slightly altered and remastered version of their first full length / second LP since the 1980's with 9 tracks that were originally released by Prank in 2007. Some of the songs are intense re-recorded versions of some of their classic tracks (including their Signature track "Give Up All Hope" that has been covered by numerous bands including the UK"s legendary Doom) as well as new recordings of songs from their recent ultra- limited Japanese releases. This is the official vinyl release of this LP, which was released as a CD-only on the Mangrove label in Japan. The LP sequence has slight variations in both track listing and mixes. CROW are touring in California and appearing at the "Chaos in Tejas" Festival in May. 1000 made / available for a limited time only. BUY LP:$8.50
CROW Flock of Beast 7" from Prank - Clear vinyl re-press limited to 500! Tokyo legends Crow deliver two blasting tracks of doomy, metallic punk mayhem - "Flock Of Beast" and "Flock Of Beast 2". Thundering deeper into epic, mid-tempo territory on the A-side with Crow's trademark boisterous vocals over searing riffs, this EP echoes their recent "The Beating Of The Wings Of Destruction" 12" by exploding on the B-side into ferocious, fast paced hardcore. Crow's origins date back to the early Japanese punk scene of the 1980s, but they have attacked in the last decade with a renewed intensity, culminating this decade in three US tours and a second album "Bloody Tear" which was released in the U.S. by Prank in 2007. BUY 7":$3.25
CROW Neurotic Organization 7" from Prank - Back in stock! Dark and bleak hardcore cornered in metallic rock, but thundering with determined intent. Fueled by the upbeat energy of Japanese hardcore, but drawing longer mid tempo compositions of shouted despair, pounded drum beats and screaming guitars influenced by UK bands such as ANTISECT and AMEBIX, the EP includes a rollicking cover of AMEBIX'S "No Sanctuary". Crow has been on and off the hardcore scene for almost two decades, with numerous releases in Japan. This was their first US release in 2001, recorded in Oakland at Polymorph Studios and has been out of print for over six years, with cover art and design by Carl Auge of His Hero Is Gone and Drain the Sky. The cover has been re-worked for this re-release. BUY 7":$3.25
CROW The Beating of the Wings of Destruction PICTURE DISC 12" from Prank - Pure savagery! A five song 12 EP that fires a punishing volley of metallic riffs, explosive drumming and gravel-raked vocals, Tokyos long running hardcore band CROW alternate between a long one-track A-side of thundering dirge and a B-side of four tracks of unleashed, non-stop hardcore fury. Issued in Japan in 2008 on CROWs own Crow records label, this received miniscule distribution stateside and has absolutely burly cutnpaste cover art by Crows vocalist, so was re-issued as a deluxe 12 picture disc for their recent U.S. shows and appearance at Austin, Texass CHAOS IN TEJAS festival. One time pressing from the original DMM master plates, limited to 800 copies. BUY 12":$9.50
CROW "Vertigo" / "Occupied Japan" 7" from Prank - On PURPLE vinyl! Blasting metallic fury, the new two-song 7 from Tokyos CROW features their trademark searing guitar solos, rumbling mid-tempo charge of bleak, dark metallic hardcore capped with their trademark harsh, deep vocals. Issued in an ultra limited quantity for the Chaos In Tejas festival earlier this year, this new pressing features lyric translations. BUY 7":$3.75

CRUMBS / RIDICULES 7" from It's Alive - The Crumbs have been making noise down in Miami for 15 years now. Their unmistakable 1950's classic rock n roll meets 1970's pre-punk style has been evolving ever since. Their two tracks on this record stand up to the best the band's ever done before. A few members have come and gone over the years - on this record they are joined by Joe Koontz of Against All Authority. Making their first vinyl appearance, fellow Miami residents, The Ridicules bring two tracks of a newer take on the pop punk rock n roll style to the flipside of this split. Their songs combine elements of the catchy up beat traditional pop punk sound with a healthy dose of grit and guts, not unlike a lot of the better music currently evolving up and out of the pop punk underground. CRUSADES NEW! Parables 7" from It's Alive - There is nothing more satisfying than releasing a record by a new band and finding fans for them from within your own fan base. We didn't make fans out of them; the band did. But we did help make that bridging possible. It is equally awesome when a band can do the same for a label. Crusades are a band that have made fans of strangers. Their music is not so far off from what It's Alive has released in the past that they don't fit in with or don't make sense sandwiched between bands like Chinese Telephones and The Dopamines. But they are far enough from our center that they have reached the ears of people who wouldn't usually look to us for new music to get into. Those people now come looking for more and find something different, yet similar enough to take interest and give it a chance. Some become fans of what we are doing and the records we are putting out. For that we will forever be stoked to have released Crusades debut album The Sun Is Down And The Night Is Riding In. With their second album already set to be released by No Idea Records, we wanted to do at least one more 7" before their send off. Certainly with the hopes of partnering up again in the future. Parables is a perfect summary of Crusades. It has build up, power, melody, pop punk appeal, masterful guitar shredding and each of the three vocalists gets time on mic to showcase this bands vocal versatility. Lyrically it presents worthwhile questioning of conventional belief as I am sure all Crusades material forever will. Stoked again. --Adam/It's Alive BUY 7":$4.25

CRUSADES NEW! The Sun Is Down and the Night Is Riding In LP/CD from Razorcake Records/It's Alive - To call the Ottawa punk scene incestual makes it sound too wholesome. At this point, a band family tree would be impossible. They've crossed the line into band forest territory; new sprouts feeding off the old growth. It's a successful ecosystem inhabited by amazing musicians. At the end of the day, those people and their bands are releasing the most high quality records, per capita, in the entire world. The newest germination is Crusades' debut full-length, The Sun Is Down and the Night Is Riding In. In my eyes, all punk worth a damn is somewhat anti-Christian, but Crusades take it to a new level. They combine their disdain for organized religion with melodies four voices deep. Crusades own the night, enlisting the unholy powers of unlikely allies like The Chinese Telephones, From Ashes Rise, and Alice Cooper. Comes in gatefold, reverse board cover, with a download code. (Ex-members/members of The Sedatives, The Creeps, Steve Adamyk Band, and much much more.) Here's a nice review: "If you're not already familiar with Ottawa, ON's Crusades from their promising first demo/seven-inch, you most likely know one or more of the handful of other bands the members inhabit(ed). Separately, they're responsible for some of the city's best bands (Year Zero, the Creeps, the Sedatives, Buried Inside) and together they've formed a whole new beast that takes pieces of the vast influences and fierce delivery of their other outfits. Ostensibly a heavier pop-punk band, but with darker thematic intentions and occasional metal inclinations (see "Remedy"), Crusades also dabble in some dark Jesus and Mary Chain-type pop on "Serpentine," and even touch upon Who territory with a moody acoustic finish on closer "Termites." They please lots of palates and do so in an incredibly smart, seasoned way. On its surface, this debut is brash and deeply melodic; underneath, it's a narrative of a "spiritual voyage" exploring religion and atheism. You can listen to it one way or the other or both and find it a charged and satisfying full experience." - Exclaim BUY LP:$10.00

CSTVT NEW! The Echo & the Light LP from Tiny Engines - Picking up where CSTVT's acclaimed full-length, Summer Fences, left off, The Echo & The Light doesn't miss a beat, honing in on the bands most positive attributes. Leaning less on the sweeping atmospherics and lush soundscapes of its debut, the Chicago quartet kicks up the distortion and fuzz pedals that lace kinetic, intertwining guitars while placing a greater emphasis on gritty vocals and concise songs that wind tightly around propulsive, math-tinged instrumental passages. If Summer Fences was the result of CSTVT experimenting with an abundance of great ideas, The Echo & The Light is the band only using the very best of those. BUY LP:$11.00

CUTE LEPERS Adventure Time LP/CD from 1-2-3-4-Go! - The Cute Lepers have been on an archeological dig for the past four years. They've been busy unearthing long lost punk and power pop gems, running them through their own proprietary filter and spitting them back out at high speed. Since the band's formation shortly after the the flame out of Seattle legends The Briefs (of which founding members Steve E. Nix and Steve Kicks were apart) they've released three LP's, too many singles to count on labels across two continents and toured wherever there is road to set a van down or land a plane on. For better or worse they're unstoppable! Adventure Time is the third Cute Lepers full length, and they continue to navigate the same territory pioneered by bands like The Buzzcocks, The Beat, The Jam, and The Boys pioneered a generation before but with the quirks and crooked teeth you'd expect from two guys who used to be in The Briefs. In fact, in a huge nod from that generation, Duncan Reid of The Boys wrote the song "77" and gave it to the Lepers for this album. In addition to the usual Cute Lepers formula there are also a number of new subtle tweeks including the best saxophone use in a punk song since The Saints "Know Your Product" on opening track "Tribute To Charlie". The song itself is an ode to UK Subs frontman Charlie Harper by name and a number of other die- hards in spirit. Like the last two LP's this record is an undeniable ear worm. I defy you to not wake up tomorrow after hearing the LP without "Tribute To Charlie", "All Of This Attention Is Killing Me" or "Head Over Heels" in your head first thing. BUY LP:$9.00

THE COUGS The Cougs 7" from Bakery Outlet - The Cougs' original bass master PJ Superfamicon once sang: "A hero lies in you. And he's really weird, man. But I don't mind a bit." He's probably right if you think he's crooning to you, but when I listen I imagine it to be self-reference. This is how I see The Cougs. An unlikely 3 pack of screwballs doing their own thing in St. Augustine that could and should appeal to the intelligent yet casual diy rock'n'rollers. They keep it deceptively simple, but especially in their latest effort-this here described 7", the licks and the song structure and the words and the melodies are most scrutinized by head Coug Andrew Virga. I remember a recount of their last practice as they were about to head on a tour which would lead them to record with Mike Pack. Virga spoke with excitement about the progression of songwriting and execution the band had reached. That's it for me. I love a lot of bands; I love them even more when I see they are always looking to move forward. Thank someone that they moved in a great direction since I signed on for this before I heard the songs-4 lengthier songs packed onto a 7" with less initial impact but the swelling anticipation and release created in each song is a fine trade for that. Post 7" the band has a new basser - 'St. Augustine's finest' Jacob Hamilton. I miss PJ in the mix, but this can only bring a different kind of weird to the band now. BUY 7":$4.50
