So... how crazy do you want things to be? I have found myself being pulled both to make some records with silly versions and a few specific colors and a little bit of mystery / chase involved... as well I have been thinking about the opposite: keeping things simple.

it's a tough decision for sure, crazy colors are always awesome to have, but at the same time everyone's only getting poorer and poorer as the economy collapses, how much more does it cost to make the crazy colors and how much more do you have to charge for that?

Economy be damned. The crazier the better. I love half and half & splatter crazy I also dig the Cannabis Corpse weenil that has weed leafs inside the weenil, or the 8 inch square picture disc that comes in a ziplock bag.

You know it will sell, so make it crazy! My opinion. I do the craziest I can for the bands on my label, just no one liked the records i put out.

I'm all for crazy colors and what not, but maybe not if it means records take longer to get released and/or costing a lot more.

i'm not a competist or anything so I don't feel the crazy collector urge to find the chase, but i like the idea of getting lucky.

i also like rad ass stuff. i'm pretty sure you do too.

Depends on the record! I will go for special stuff on Starvation and AJJ/OP!!!, but would be fine with something simple on Hawks & Doves, SBB, and Blacktop.

f it var, go crazy, you sell stuff cheaper than anyone anyways, no big deal, everyone will continue supporting you because you're one of the only actual record labels out there that does what they're supposed to do (i.e. consistently put out great albums and keep things in print)

yeah, no one is forcing people to buy multiple copies or weird pre-order combos. I mean, I would have liked to get that bonus 7" for The Measure, but I'm fine with the regular version.

colors can be fun
bonus songs are a good incentive.
weird things can be appreciated even by those who do not own them.

as long as I can get an album without jumping through hoops or paying an arm and a leg, then why not get nutty?

What makes him feel best? I don't think hanging upside-down from the ceiling, eating a banana split, masturbating, with a sharpie in each ear was an option. But sure, Var, do that all year.

I think you should do whatever will make me the most money.

11"!!

I'd like to see more attention put on how the record covers look and are put together than weenil colors. I love silk screened and/or die-cut covers.

12, 11 it will just end up getting lost in my unorganized collection.

here is my hiarchy of icebox concerning records.

colored weenil
screen print covers
weird sizes
die cut covers (really kinda annoying)

It will sell for the same price as a 12" either way. There will be wacky colored weenil either way. Really, anything we would do one way, we can do the other, and it will cost the same to mailorder.

The 11" is more appealing to me than a 10", the same way a 6" is more appealing than a 5". Part of my rationale there is that a 6" does not get lost when in a 7" box. Same deal with an 11" in a 12 bin / shelf.

Also, either way, the jacket will be standard and have a spine. So... it's just a call on whether to make 11" or 12"... all other aspects are the same either way... inserts, covers, cost, colors, etc.

The other debate I am having with myself (and I need to resolve today) is whether I want to duplicate the Leatherface scenario with the new SBB and make the mailorder version a 2xLP at 45 RPM. This of course, will be more expensive than a 1xLP to order... but a fair price. Not a $30 record like important indie/metal labels can pull off somehow, haha!

You haven't done a wacky sized record in a while(other than the NF/OWTH) that I can recall, so I'd say go for the 11"

The audiophile in me says that a 2xLP at 45 is a really icebox idea... but only if the recording was all analog and it was never converted to a digital format somewhere along the way before being put down on the LP.

I believe that it was recorded digital, mixed down to analog tape, then mastered digital. Confused yet?

I do not recall the last time I cut a record from analog tape. We're talking the 80's. As soon as there were DAT tapes, everything got mixed down to those...
