BANANAS "Forbidden Fruit" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 "For reason i dunno The Bananas full lengths were never released on vinyl. From a total drooling fan perspective I could say that this is their classic, but i wont cos they're all classics. Thats why Recess is doing all of em on vinyl. I usually use the word "Stoked" with irony but not this time! STOKED! " - Todd/Recess |

RIVERDALES "Tarantula" from Recess Records BUY LP • $10.00 BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes The Riverdales follow up last year's "Invasion USA" with "Tarantula," 30 minutes of their heaviest yet catchiest songs to date. Initially meant to be part of "Invasion USA," these tunes stood out on their own enough to be their own beast. In these parts, RIverdales-Storm The Streets, is considered a cultish, godlike slab. Tarantula carries on with the great Foster/Schafer songwriting team, as well as being complimented with the Justin Perkins production. "12 to the Moon" can be considered a classic weeks before release date. And if you wanna talk up the Ramones references, well then we can clock in with this era's "Baby Sitter/Bonzo/Something to Believe In" via "Soultaker". I am comfortable saying that. **LP is packaged in a hefty gatefold jacket! **CD sports the infamous digipak! |

SPITS, THE "The Spits IV (aka "School's Out")" from In The Red/Recess Records BUY LP • $12.50 BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” —Raoul Duke "A quote that proves to be eerily prescient with the long awaited return of professional weirdos, The SPITS. Fresh from the studio with their fourth self-titled LP on Recess/Thriftstore Records, The SPITS show no sign of slowing down with their latest effort, mixing equal parts Devo and Misfits into an aurally addictive, synth-inflected stew. Describing the music they play as “Punk for the People” these prophets of the proletariat have a message for the masses: The SPITS are the soundtrack to the Apocalypse. The SPITS have never shied away from esoteric subject matter musically. Previous records have contained themes of escaped Nazi war criminals, nuclear winters, commie spies, and terrorist attacks, coupled with back alley booze-fests, brain- bruising bong rips, skateboards, and fisticuffs. With songs about constable evasion (“Police”), Huxley-esque visions of metropolitan horror (“Eyesore City”), and alien abduction (“Alienize”), SPITS #4 should prove to be just as desperately disparate and sonically sordid as previous salvos. In short: Unlike a lot of the bands in the staid punk scene, The SPITS are fun. For the uninitiated, The SPITS are a punk rock band hailing from, well, all over the place, by way of Michigan, and then Seattle. The brothers Wood, Sean and Erin, play guitar and bass respectively, with Lance Phelps on drums and Ernie Quintero banging on the ever present keyboards. While the drums and synth have seen live line-up changes in the past, a constant with the band has been the studio collaboration between the two brothers, and Phelps. From the fuzzed out, over-driven, guitar and vox intro of “Tonight”, and the percussive, submachine gun attack of “Police”, to the cool bottom heaviness of “Life of Crime”, and the lo-fi genius outro of “Flags”, The SPITS fourth offering is the strongest to date; showcasing a band that is only beginning to approach the zenith of its power, as the world dips entropically past its own, toward obliteration. Indeed. Buy the record, take the ride. "-Shawn Durant |

STONED AT HEART "Party Tracks Vol. 1" from Recess Records BUY LP • $8.00 **Includes download code for entire album plus the demo versions! **1st pressing is 300 copies on RED vinyl! **Stoned At Heart is Todd, Jimmy, Chachi (Toys That Kill & Underground Railroad To Candyland) and Jessica (Baby J, Can Of Beans)! Stoned At Heart: We got together less than a year ago. I forgot why? I guess outta mutual love for each other's songs, me and Baby J. Chachi and Jimmy make those songs sound waaay better than they were intended. We made plans to record (demo or whatever) and it fell right in the midst of us recording The Underground Railroad to Candyland in our own Clown Sound Studio (in my garage). So we decided "just one weekend and then back to URTC". We were so happy with the SAH sessions that we scrapped the current URTC session only to re-do it the right way! The learning curve is a motherfucker, yet a nice motherfucker indeed.-Todd Congelliere |

ARRIVALS "Marvels of Industry" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes "I was excited as all hell when one of my favorite bands, not only my favorite of all active bands but one of my favorites of all time, asked me to do their next album, but i can compare the initial excitement to a piece of hamster pie when i set it next to how i felt when i first heard the master to this album! I had unforgiving goosebumps for 3 weeks straight! I dunno how to say this without sounding like a used car salesman but THERE IS NO FILLER ON THIS ALBUM! One might think the track "Why you talk all shitty?" might fall under that umbrella but once they turn it up a bit and realize that it is a question that needed to be asked years ago then they will understand what kinda record they have just stumbled upon. Super proud of this one!" - Todd/Recess Download: "I'm Sorry For Saying I'm Sorry" MP3 |
|
| AUDACITY "Power Drowning" from Recess Records/Burger Records BUY LP • $9.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes I saw these guys on a boat and thought they were the best band I have seen while skimming on the Pacific Ocean! From the first few chords they reminded me of Jerry's Kids. Like very early Jerry's Kids, as well as a slew of other early '80's bands, but 1 minute into a song everything changed and I thought, "Now they sound like The Bananas!". Yea I put a quote on thoughts. So what?! The day they all graduated from high school they left for their first US tour. They even do "Dicks Hate Police". Split release with Burger Records! --Todd/Recess |

BANANAS "A Slippery Subject" from Recess Records/Plan-It-X LP temporarily out of stock CD temporarily out of stock "Although Their first album, Forbidden Fruit, is chock full o' The Bananas classics, especially during their shows, I would hafta say that they get better and better with each release. "Dont touch that thing" is surely one of the bestest album openers in our generation. This is the second installment of The Bananas vinyl releases. First 300 on red vinyl! Hurry!" - Todd/Recess |

BANANAS "New Animals" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes "My band was on tour with The Bananas once and at one show they were pushed to do a sound check. I was eating in another room downstairs when i heard them start. All of the sudden i caught myself wolfing down my food very fast like i was in a hot dog eating contest. The reason was cos it sounded like i was missing a huge fun party. When i finished i ran into the room they were playing and it was empty, like most sound checks are. Even from a faint thump street blocks away they have a spirit and energy that many other bands will never come close to even pretending to have. Their first 3 albums are mainstays in my stereo and never seem to lose charm or fail the test of time. Their 4th album, "New Animals", promises even more longevity! Some of their best songs like "Gentrification for Dummies", "Radioaction", "National Anthem", and "Roly Poly" call this record home. Damn I'm glad they exist!" - Todd/Recess Download: "Radio Action" MP3 |

Halfway through their set I had a blasphemus thought that they were pretty much THE CLASH for now?!? Now while I wont repent I admit that they aren?t THE CLASH. They were from England and Bent is from NY. ?Stray dog town? is so good that I?m willing to give the damn money back if anyone doesn?t agree. CHINESE TELEPHONES / DEAR LANDLORD from Recess Records/It's Alive BUY 7" • $3.50 DOWNLOAD from iTunes "I had to scroll down this lackluster, at best, Dreamweaver file to find out when the last time i did a split 7". Lets just agree that its been awhile. I dunno why cos its a format that got me thru years of shitty throwaway B sides and turned me onto some pretty great bands. Ah ok enough "those were the days" crap! Dear Landlord is Zack & Half Pint from Rivethead and Fletcher & Brett from The Copyrights. Obviously if you liked any one of those bands you will love their side of this! Zach has not skipped a beat with his great songs. For those of you who wished Rivethead never broke up can stop throwing their stupid pennys in the well now. Chinese Telephones are consistently recording some great stuff! I think they are a hybrid of D4 and The Marked Men. If you heard their great side off The Potential Johns split 12" then your already hooked. go for it! Split release with the lovely It's Alive Records." - Todd/Recess |
|
|
CIVIC MINDED FIVE / THE BLACKS from Recess Records BUY 7" • $3.50 "One of the most underrated albums in the last 5 years is THE BLACKS HATE YOU LIKE GOLD. THE BLACKS ruled cos behind the twisted damage lied an undeniable catchiness thats usually unheard of with this type of stuff. I think maybe KARP is the only other band i can think of right now that had this kinda character. Sometime between the LP and this split 7" we lost THE BLACKS frontman CHAD KERR. This split serves as a tribute that RECESS is proud to share release honors along with CHEMICAL VALLEY RECORDS. CIVIC MINDED 5 keep up the pace from their last awesome record, E=CM5 (REC075), with 2 unreleased fkrs!" - Todd/Recess |

F.Y.P. "Five Year Plan" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 "Don?t ask me how Recess reached its 100th release, all I know is that when it came I wanted it to be an F.Y.P release and fortunately I had some FYP demo material in the vaults. The songs on this release are the demo versions for the last FYP album (FYP-toys that kill recess#67). Some of the songs never made it to the last album and one (keep caroline) later became a TOYS THAT KILL song. These versions, in our opinion, are a tad superior due to its rawness. This is the way F.Y.P should sound? Maybe." - Todd/Recess |

MODERN MACHINES "Taco Blessing" from Recess Records BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes "The Modern Machines have been accurately compared to The Replacements, Husker Du and early Lemonheads. They bring back to life a style of music that most people forgot existed (or at least thought would never exist again) and do it so well that you swear you were hearing it for the first time. Their Midwest-sounding songs are so consistently well-written that this release no doubt will be considered a classic. Not only is the music amazing, but they rock the fuckin' house when they play live." - Punk Planet |
|
|
MODERN MACHINES "Take It, Somebody!" from Recess Records/Dirtnap BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 Milwaukee, WI's Modern Machines return with their 4th CD (after a string of cassette-only releases), first for Dirtnap, and it's easily their best one yet! True pop smarts meets classsic upper midwestern punk inspiration filtered thru modern day basement punk sensibilities. Husker Du meets early Replacements meets early Lemonheads (remember when they were good?) meets Dillinger 4 meets The Figgs? While these comparisons remain fairly apt, Take It, Somebody sees the band incorporating older and more diverse influences into their distinctive songwritingstyle, including 60's garage rock, and even a little Americana-esque twang. Heartfelt, sincere, clever songwriting from one of the hardest working bands in punk rock, who, by the sound of things, are only beginning to hit their stride. Oh yeah, and it was recorded in a basement in Milwaukee for $200. What more could you possibly want? |
|
|
OFF WITH THEIR HEADS "Hospitals" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes "Oh, Fuck yes! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS has stepped up to the plate and delivered a record that rocks with the passion of a thousand Alamo house basement shows. Imagine a stronger MODERN MACHINES,mixed with some DILLINGER FOUR, and then throw in a healthy dose of RIVETHEAD (which this band is ex members of) and you have OFF WITH THEIR HEADS. There is something wonderful and totally punk about jumping up and down while singing songs about misery and sorrow with a smile on your face. This record is so recommended that I can almost guarantee will be on my year-end top ten and its only march." - J. Floyd/ MRR |

QUEERS "Love Songs For the Retarded" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 DOWNLOAD from iTunes As with all the Lookout era Screeching Weasel being re-released on the unbowed vinyl format, same goes for The Queers! The first in the installment is their highly classic "Love Songs For The Retarded" LP. I pretty much think all the songs on this album are glued forever onto The Queers set lists. With greats like "Debra Jean", "Hi Mom.it's Me", & "You're Tripping" you can't ever ever ever go wrong. |
|
|
QUEERS "Munki Brain" from Recess Records LP temporarily out of stock DOWNLOAD from iTunes "I, like some of you out there, kinda gave up on The Queers after their "Beyond The Valley" LP. I decided the tank was on empty with no gas stations in site. Although there was some gems after that (See: THE QUEERS "Today" EP) nothing grabbed my attention like "Munkie Brain". I think this is their best since "Dont Back Down" and my freind Zack thinks its their best ever. Zack knows a thing or two about a thing or two. We can compare all the live long day but this does contain "I Think She's Starting To Like Me" (think "Pet Sounds" with attitude) which i am pretty sure is my favorite Queers song ever" - Todd/Recess |

SCREECHING WEASEL "Boogadaboogadaboogada" from Recess Records LP temporarily out of stock BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes Now re-issued by Recess on CD! LP has a gatefold cover! "Recess is currently going through high emotions due to the grantage of releasing most of Screeching Weasel's catalog on vinyl. The first installment is the classic second album Boogadaboogadaboogada. Originally released on Roadkill Records, then bootlegged in europe, and then re-released on Lookout Records, and now on an updated mastered, deluxe packaged Recess version. This album is reminiscent of the better A.O.D. Stuff, yet has the sign-of-things-to-come classics like "Love", "Stupid Over You", "My Right", "I Wanna Be Naked", and the great great "Hey Suburbia". 26 songs in all!! If you paid attention to punk or HC in the late '80's then this was considered a savior!" - Todd/Recess |

SCREECHING WEASEL "Wiggle" from Recess Records / Asian Man BUY LP • $9.50 BUY CD • $8.75 DOWNLOAD from iTunes **On CLEAR, WHITE, RED or GREEN vinyl!** "Wiggle" is SCREECHING WEASEL's 4th full-length, and third in the Recess preservation act of all things Weasel. Ok, now we really understand that there's a strong Ramones influence. When this one was first released, I heard a coupla "Ramones tribute band!" and a coupla "Oh yea?! Let's hear em do "QUESTIONINGLY"!!". Ok maybe I didnt hear the latter. But still, there's super new wave hints while still holding onto a tiny shred of the earlier, Crimpshrine-y bits. Their version of Teenage Head's "AIN'T GOT NO SENSE" rivals the original...in my opinion. The band didn't find this their best record due to a rush to get a "My Brain Hurts" follow up and maybe some unfair expectations, but I think it's one of their best. And because our Ambassador to The Kids license has not yet expired, we give you bonus tracks, never before seen photos (like you care), super buff gatefold jacket, and 4 editions of colored vinyl. Yea... I know." - Todd / Recess |

SHARK PANTS "Porno Snakehead" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 "Theres something going down in Tuscon. Some of the most overlooked bands are there right as i type. Desperation & heat can drive people fukn crazy to the brink of total gnarlyness sending them home from the bank with nothing but a negative balanced statement and a shitty toaster. Luckily bands like SHARK PANTS get together and channel it all thru amps. Members of SWING DING AMIGOS & THE BLACKS." - Todd/Recess |

I swear everytime we see em play they get better and better and they didn?t even need to get any better. To try to name a band that they sound like is putting in years and months of writers block. This record totally blows away the last TURBONEGRO record. I?m really serious. I?ll even walk the streets of Oslo saying that until I get sacrificed by some black metal motherfuckers!" - Todd/Recess |

SWING DING AMIGOS / CIVIC MINDED FIVE from Recess Records BUY 7" • $3.50 "A bonifide split with Wronghole Records Inc of total desert trash! Although you might know what CM5 is all about you need to know them better. Hal Ba Dal pitches in some pretty borderline insane liner notes to help you figure stuff out. THEE MAKEOUT PARTY "Play Pretend" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 DOWNLOAD from iTunes "I've always been attracted to OC punk, although in its supposed "heyday" there was some pretty retarded shit goin' on. In 1986 I remember speed walking outta Fenders Ballroom while D.I. was playing cos i saw some dude with a knife dangling from his back, and didn't go to any shows for a year or so. Although it wasn't D.I.'s fault and I actually loved the other OC bands at the time, i feel better about what's goin' on in Orange County nowadays. Bands like Pterodacdudes, Audacity, Drinkers Purgatory, and Thee Makeout Party sound nothing like each other, but share something that I ain't even gonna try to explain! Thee's sound is not unlike the great power-pop that was unleashed by labels like Stiff Records (Wreckless Eric, Nick Lowe) and Posh Boy (Red Cross, The Simpletones) awhile back. This is Thee's debut LP!" - Todd/Recess |

TOYS THAT KILL "Control the Sun (Picture Disc)" from Recess Records LP temporarily out of stock CD temporarily out of stock "15 songs from the not so self implied "Queens of San pedro". whats that all about?! i dunno. Maybe its TTK's big Gay following or quite maybe their big Meathead following?? Shine that for right now, Lets talk about the LP: hidden inside what seems to be a normal LP package (i.e. full color jacket) is a nutty nut-like picture disk. The all too popular CD format comes packaged with a rock balls digipak. Both formats come with a poster w/ lryics, stories, pictures etc. All we are saying is give a sophmore jinx a chance." - Todd/Recess |

TOYS THAT KILL "Shanked!" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes "This album should've been called "C'mon catman light my fire" due to all the fires related. The day i got home from austin after recording this my place and the Recess HQ caught on fire. 1 week later Sweatbox studio (where we record) caught on fire mildly. 1 month later the building caught on fire and totally burnt down. The building was owned by the same guy that got shot by Dick Cheney! But that aformentioned title is totally lame and you should thank me for not going down that route.Your welcome!" - Todd/Recess |

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO CANDYLAND "Bird Roughs" from Recess Records BUY LP • $7.50 BUY CD • $8.00 DOWNLOAD from iTunes Back in stock on vinyl! Folks from Toys That Kill! Here is what Jersey Beat said about this one."You can put this album on and think you were listening to Toys That Kill or FYP and that is not a bad thing at all (considering they have some of the same members.) With that TTK/FYP sound, The Underground Railroad To Candyland blast out 12 outstanding tracks. ?(Suey) Ex- Fat Kid Blues? was the track that fully grabbed my attention and set this band aside in my mind from TTK/FYP. With call and respond choruses, chanting verses and a slight country/ folksy twang, this album envelops you and keeps you wanting more and more. ? No way!, Miss U.S.A.!? which has become my favorite track on this album, even has a Dick Dale surf rock feel to it explored through the main guitar riff. However after these 12 songs finished, I scrambled to my CD?s and pulled out all the great TTK/FYP albums I?ve collected over the years. This album will definitely be one I will be glad to come across while looking through my collection in the years to come." |
