A LOSS FOR WORDS "Motown Classics" from Paper + Plastick
BUY CD • $8.25

Boston's pop-punk quintet A LOSS FOR WORDS make their Paper + Plastick Records debut with a Motown covers album! "Our band listens to anything from American Nightmare to Coldplay to New Found Glory, and everything in between,"says vocalist Matty Arsenault. I grew up listening to R&B and have always wanted to do something like this! We just felt it was the perfect time to try something new and have some fun with it. We're very excited for everyone to hear us spice up some classic R&B hits!" A Loss For Words recorded the 10-song cover album with Chris Curran at Webster Lake Studios in Boston, and reworked classic R&B and Motown songs from the Jackson 5, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and more. The band has been performing select covers on the road, including their acoustic take on The Temptations 'My Girl." The album version is a pop-punk gem which features additional vocals from Jordan Brown of Set Your Goals, while fellow Boston-ites Dan O'Connor and Alan Day of Four Year Strong make a vocal appearance on the Jackson 5 track.

FAREWELL CONTINENTAL "EP #2" from Paper + Plastick
BUY 12" • $8.00

Minneapolis, MN, a city known for great bands like Husker Du, Soul Asylum and The Jets, has cultivated an entire new generation of up-and-coming talented artists. Something about the cold winters and abundance of cheap liquor has helped create a clan of mad scientist like musicians that have somehow infiltrated the city. Secretly, members of great currently active Minneapolis bands have started a new project. Going by pseudonyms based on Harrison Ford characters from movies, and clad in ski masks at their live shows, Farewell Continental have embarked on a new musical endeavor that strays from their other bands (FC features Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack) yet maintains the tradition of mediocre song writing. Their songs are layered with feedback and noise, yet the vocal hooks punch through at regularly predictable intervals. Influenced by Velocity Girl, Pavement, Swervedriver, the Pixies, and fueled entirely by the delicious taste of bacon, Farewell Continental make a considerate nod to 90's indie rock, but never go as far as aping their influences.* Pressed on a one sided, silkscreened 12”, this second EP by a talented but secretive group of artists is the definition of shoegaze for the modern audience.

*depends on who you ask, of course.

GAMITS "Parts" from Paper + Plastick/Suburban Home
BUY LP • $9.00
BUY CD • $8.25

"The Gamits are the Brett Favre of punk rock." Think about it. When The Gamits disbanded in 2004, they went out on top. At a sold out show in Denver, CO, they bid farewell to the city, the fans, old tunes, and new classics from their second full-length entitled "Antidote". Over the 10-year life-span of the band, their music had matured from a pop punk band to that of a melodic rock trio that drew from varied influences with intricate guitar work, thoughtful lyrics, and beautifully simple song structure. In 2009, it all started over with a phone call from Japan. The country that once embraced The Gamits wanted a reunion tour. With the idea planted firmly in frontman Chris Fogal's mind, he called Scott Weigel and Forrest Bartosh to pick up the bass and drum duties and take a nice paid vacation to Tokyo. But the idea grew from a simple reunion tour into a brand new album. "Parts" was completed in July at Fogal's Black In Bluhm studio in Denver. This album is the next step forward for a band who may not have played together for a while, but must have been listening. The foundation of melodic rock is still the same, but this time taking on more of an edge. Vocally, the album is a departure from Fogal's sticky sweet tone of the past, and walks toward a gruffness reminiscent of Blake from Jawbreaker or Eric from Dillinger Four. All the hooks are there, but they still leave room for texture through time changes and hard rock beats. "Parts" is the logical next step for a band that every Gamits fan loves and everyone else hasn't heard yet.

HAUSE, DAVE "Resolutions" from Paper + Plastick

“I feel like these are the best songs I’ve written to date,” says Hause of his solo debut. “I really had an incredible time making the record with the Empty Bottles Band (Hause’s group of friends and backing band), so it’ll be really fun to get that effort into people’s hands.” Hause, who cut his teeth in the punk world as a member of Paint It Black and vocalist/guitarist of The Loved Ones, has recorded a rock album with no genre restrictions and limitations that draws from singer/songwriters such as Jenny Lewis and Conor Oberst. While writing the last two Loved Ones releases (2008’s Build & Burn and 2009’s Distractions), Hause recalls “the songs I was writing at the time didn’t really fit [The Loved Ones style] and seemed to be pulling in a different direction, so I figured I would see that through. When songs happen quickly and easily you just kind of have to ride the wave, and before I knew it I had a record’s worth of good tunes that don’t fully fit the Loved Ones paradigm. I think fans of my songwriting will definitely get what’s going on and will be happy to hear it.” Recorded, produced, engineered and mixed by Pete Steinkopf (of The Bouncing Souls), Hause and the Empty Bottles Band recorded drums, bass, mandolin, pedal steel and some guitars at Brian McTernan’s Salad Days studio in Baltimore, while the remaining guitars, organ, keyboard and percussion were recorded at Little Eden Studios in Asbury Park, NJ. While fans have lived with acoustic, stripped down demo versions of his solo material for over a year, Hause affirms “the versions on the album are the full deal, the way the song is supposed to sound all fleshed out, like it was in my head originally.” Cuts such as the uplifting “C’mon Kid” and the somber “Melanin” take on a new life with the help of Hause’s backing band, while fan favorite “Pray For Tucson” is still an acoustic number made even more beautiful with the assistance of a pedal steel guitar.

HAVE NOTS "Serf City USA" from Paper + Plastick
BUY LP • $9.00

"Riddled throughout this snarled-upper lip rock ‘n’ roll effort is a sound that’s likely to make most would-be ska bands nervously upchuck their breakfasts. Upon first inspection, the Have Nots seem to adhere to the traditional boozy pub-rock formula, one that’s cemented in “There’s Gonna Be a Riot,” the first track on Serf City USA. Before long and without warning the record gives way to sonically charged ska-punk brilliancy and that’s a sentiment not to be taken lightly by even the most casual of listeners... If you’re looking for a healthy spark in an otherwise over- saturated genre, then the Have Nots are probably a good choice for your listening ears. Forget about the industry clutter and the many cookie-cutter punk bands that rely on a horn section to fit the bill; the Have Nots actually do the genre some justice and come out sounding fresh and new." - punknews.org

RESTORATIONS "Strange Behavior" from Paper + Plastick
BUY 12" • $9.25

After 2 full-lengths and an EP, Jon and Dave, members of Jena Berlin, decided that constant member rotations, broken vans, and financial exhaustion was enough to take their music in a different direction. After jamming together between Jena Berlin runs, the two grabbed members Ben, Mike, and Carlin along the way, and Restorations was formed. Taking a step back from the post-hardcore Jena Berlin delivered, Restorations encompasses powerful, but composed, rustic vocals, and musically draws influences from Fugazi, The Constantines, and Jimmy Eat World. They aren’t afraid to play as loud as they can, either. Previous output includes 2-song 7” on Evil Weevil Records and a one- song split with Rosetta on Cavity Records. All material is recorded by Joe Reinhart (Algernon Cadwallader) at The Headroom in Philly, and the band has played shows with The Smoking Popes, Thorns of Life, The Jealous Sound and fellow Paper + Plastick labelmates, The Riot Before. Where is Restorations headed? “This is a band we want to grow old with. We're trying to combine our past experiences to do this a little smarter this time around. This is the most fun any of us have had playing music and we want to make this something we can do for a long time,” says Jon. That, you can count on. **On three kinds of colored vinyl!   SLACKERS, THE "Lost and Found" from Paper + Plastick
LP temporarily out of stock

Lost and Found is a compilation of music that The Slackers made from 1998 through to 2007. When the band records, there are typically some tracks that don't make it onto the albums. Sometimes a track just needed some editing, and we didn't have time. A bunch of these tracks had some technical mistakes that had to wait until we had the digital technology to fix them. For whatever reason, many of these songs were forgotten or put aside. That is, until now... The Slackers are a classic American band that is equal parts grit and grace. Their slow rise against the odds is a story in perseverance and a belief in their musical vision, what Vic likes to call, "Jamaican Rock N Roll." While they have been influenced, and even personally taught by Jamaican ska/reggae originators, like the Skatalites and the Upsetters (Original backing band for the Wailers), the band sees its music as an extension of the traditions of the United States. This band is equally appreciative of old blues, country, 60s soul, rock, and Rnb as it is of reggae, rocksteady, dub, and Ska. It is as if the Rolling Stones or the Yardbirds had grown up on Bob Marley as well as Muddy Waters. Smashing the stereotypes of "ska" as happy, uptempo, and shallow music, the Slackers play with an aggressive edge and their songs veer in themes from the personal to the political. They can out jam any hippie band and outwrite most singer songwriters. From their 1996 release, Better Late Than Never through to 2010 with The Great Rocksteady Swindle, they have established themselves as America's premiere interpreters and innovators of Jamaican music and a pretty good rock band to boot. TRACK LISTING: 01) If You See My Baby 02) It Will All Come Back 03) What Went Wrong 04) Tonight 05) Lonely Nights 06) We Can Work It Out 07) Prophet 08) Wasted Days 09) My Way 10) Two Blues 11) Estranged 12) Two Face 13) Cupid 14) Watch This 15) See You In My Dreams 16) Blues (Lost & Found) 17) Area 51 18) Mommy

For fans of: American Steel, Banner Pilot, Street Dogs, Smoke or Fire We’ve all been at the end of our ropes before, that precarious tipping point where you’re not sure whether everything’s going to work itself out, or whether you’re going to end up as a deranged 30-something basement screamer chewing on the business-end of a broken bottle. “It’s All Coming Down” zeroes in on these feelings, a Richter-scale reading on imminent mental collapse. As Spanish Gamble have waged their own wars across the underground over the past few years, they’ve clawed their way up the totem pole from the position of determined underdog to scrappy welterweights. They’ve built a healthy reputation for riling house shows into reckless abandon and will surely be wide-awake, blacked-out, and giving any willing soul a homemade tattoo in your living room long after you’ve passed out. In turn, the music speaks for itself - driving and melodic, rife with compelling leads and behemoth choruses. Each song stands as an anthem unto itself, whether defiant or rallying, hopeful or hopeless.

SWELLERS "Ups and Downsizing" from Paper + Plastick/Fueled By Ramen
BUY LP • $9.00

From the perpetually down-on-its-luck, blue collar, rustbelt factory town of Flint, Michigan, comes The Swellers, a punk band that knows a thing or two about making hard, no-nonsense, but infinitely catchy music. Following in the footsteps of other Flintites who've made their name on the world stage—film provocateur Michael Moore, ’70s hard rock pioneers Grand Funk Railroad, ’80s grindcore/deathmetal pioneers Repulsion, and the late rapper M.C. Breed—The Swellers have forged a hard-edged, yet accessible style of punk over the better part of a decade, the last three years of which have been spent touring non-stop with the likes of Paramore, Less Than Jake, Set Your Goals, Four Year Strong, A Wilhelm Scream and Streetlight Manifesto, among numerous others. Now, with "Ups and Downsizing", the Flint- area four piece manages to expound on the rollercoaster of life they’ve experienced on the road and in that perpetual hard-luck area just north of Detroit while refining the poppy punk sound they've been honing since their mid-teens. In true punk tradition, "Ups and Downsizing ' is the outraged cry of a band that has seen its world on the precipice. It’s also the sound of a band that sees hope in the most hopeless of situations. Paper + Plastick now brings you the release of "Ups and Downsizing" on vinyl, in partnership with the label Vinnie co- founded, Fueled By Ramen. **Three different kinds of colored vinyl!

**NEW PRESSING IN STOCK: TRANSLUCENT ORANGE or BLUE & ORANGE SWIRL! Evolution is a natural process that can neither be forced nor contrived, but can be accellerated by constant pressure and motion. Since their inception a few short years ago, The Riot Before have kept their burners on high, maintaining a perpetual drive that propelled them almost overnight from obscurity to legendary road warrior status. From their humble, guileless beginnings, they’ve rapidly matured into an experienced and irrefutable force. After the virulent success of 2008’s Fists Buried in Pockets, they immediately set to work forging a new record. With the help of Paper + Plastick’s seemingly infinite underworld connections, the planets aligned during a full moon and they found themselves locked away in the ivory tower known as The Magpie Cage alongside fabled production wizard J Robbins (Jawbreaker, Against Me!, The Promise Ring). Together, they cast and fired their finest work to date, a sprawling composite that fuses the band’s driving, melodic anthems with Robbins’ dissonant, angular production. The resulting opus stands as a genre-defying testament to musical progression, as each song draws clear and differing influences while maintaining a cohesive texture throughout the course of the record. “Richmond, Virginia’s the Riot Before have many winning attributes, but perhaps their strongest one lies in their unflinching ability to convey every sound they make straight from the heart. With a slightly folkish edge occassionally sneaking in, the band’s brand of punk is both catchy and raw, sounding like the Gaslight Anthem and Small Brown Bike jamming in a tiny room. Rebellion’s melodies are powerfully moving, and whether the band are throwing everything they have at you (as with the gorgeous harmonies of “Backstage Room”) or showing restraint to help expose the grace and beauty beneath the surface (“What I’ve Missed”), they nail you every time. With all this bolstered by thought-provoking lyrics and their sheer relentless exuberance, the Riot Before really have come up with something special.” - Alternative Press

TUMBLEDOWN "Tumbledown" from Paper + Plastick
BUY LP • $9.00

Under the influence of great American songwriters, countless punk rock shows, pop music and folk music legends, Mike Herrera's Tumbledown was born. Forged from Herrera’s experiences on tour – miles and miles of landscape and the lonely open road, Tumbledown encompasses the love and heartbreak that comes with a life spent on the move, away from home in Bremerton, WA. While the world-traveling musician may be most well known as the dynamic bassist and lead singer of the Left Coast three- piece MxPx, beneath all the tattoos and piercings, the ranting and stage-wrecking, Herrera has long been an acoustic wielding songsmith. His alt/country/poppunk- a-billy solo project Tumbledown is at the root and on the flipside of all that (distinctive) punk rock. “It's all about the songs,” Herrera says. “What it sounds like depends on who you are.” The music carries an old-school country-western swagger, reminiscent of Hank Williams, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, with Herrera strumming a big dreadnaught acoustic over a chugging snare drum and standup bass. Guitarist Jack Parker adds to the Americana, with swiftly meandering, mean lead work.

V/A - ARE YOU WITH THE BAND? "(A Female-Fronted Pop-Punk Compilation)" from Paper + Plastick
BUY LP • $10.00

The impact of women such as Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, Donita Sparks, and Kathleen Hanna on modern music is undeniable and can be felt decades after they first broke onto the scene. The ability of these women to challenge societal norms and not only cross, but smash gender boundaries in music rewrote the rock ‘n roll history books, and have inspired generations of women to pick up a microphone or instrument and do what they love to do. So why, nearly thirty years later, are women still queried “Are you with the band?” Curated by Lauren Denitzio, former vocalist/guitarist of New Brunswick pop-punk band The Measure [sa], Paper + Plastick Records is proud to release the all female-fronted pop-punk compilation Are You With The Band? on October 4th. All proceeds from the sale of the compilation will be donated to Planned Parenthood. A dozen of the seventeen tracks on Are You With The Band? are previously unreleased, and feature a diverse line up, from pop-punk (The Measure [sa], Slingshot Dakota, No More) to indie rock (P.S. Eliot, Noun) to straight up punk rock (Dead Dog, Shellshag). Though the bands may cross multiple genres, Denitzio surmises “We are women who play music, put out records, put on shows, make flyers and zines, create cover art, and support our scenes. We are far from alone anymore and this LP is meant to celebrate that.”

Instead of following typical ska punk conventions, WATU takes a harder-nosed approach to the genre. With influences ranging from Philadelphia/New Jersey favorites Lifetime and Kid Dynamite, and bands like Slapstick and This is a Standoff, they rage with the best of them while still retaining a heightened sense of melody. Their love for fast music, horns and their incredibly short attention spans are a simple explanation for why WATU sound the way they do.
