CHILLERTON "Hollow Lane" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50

Listening to “Hollow Lane” is reminiscent of an energetic basement show. Sing-along vocals, tight rhythms, and inspirational lyrics melt together to deliver well-crafted songs to your speakers. Hailing from the UK, this three-piece is like a fresh young version of LEATHERFACE and it takes listeners back to a time when bands like the HOT WATER MUSIC and BRAID were kings of the scene.

FELLOW PROJECT / THOUSANDAIRES from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.75

Somewhere between angular post-punk and straight up punk rock lays Fellow Project. Featuring members of Bridge and Tunnel, the band’s songs feature jangly riffs, staggered tempos, monumental buildups and good old upbeat sing-alongs with male and female dueling vocals. They sound novel and familiar all at the same time. Thousandaires approach the same idea with a slightly more upbeat and straightforward take. The vocals call to mind early Hot Water Music, but the song writing is less traditional and more punk at the same time. Noodling guitars scale the fretboards, but not in a crummy tech metal way. The songs sound like they are written with a nod to the mid-nineties era bands but this is still punk.

GUILTMAKER "Dilemmas" from Kiss of Death
BUY LP • $8.00
BUY CD • $7.75

You may be surprised that Dilemmas was not released on Lovitt or Jade Tree. It has the street cred of former band members like REVERSAL OF MAN and COMBAT WOUNDED VETERAN though you may not know it listening to this record. The sound is more post hardcore and ambient in the vein of ENGINE DOWN and QUICKSAND, some even say in the vein of “The Moon is Down” era FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER. Dilemmas is destined to be the most under-appreciated record on Kiss Of Death Records this year. A must have for all true music lovers.

HOMEWRECKERS, THE "Daydreaming About Assholes" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.75

At first listen, THE HOMEWRECKERS sound like a more pissed-off version of THE DISTILLERS. This Brooklyn band’s EP is in your face and totally confrontational. “Assholes” is vengeful and unapologetically spiteful, yet refreshingly honest. Cristy Road fronts the band and pulls influence from Keith Morris-era BLACK FLAG.

IN THE RED / ANCHOR "Split" from Kiss Of Death
BUY 7" • $3.75

Mike Hale of Gunmoll fame is back again with more of his new outfit In the Red. This stuff goes to show that you can take the man out of Gainesville, but you can't take the Gainesville out of the man. Fans of the bands earlier work will be pleased to hear that Mike has lost none of his trademark growl on this stuff that falls somewhere between Leatherface and Hot Water Music. The Anchor brings along a track of gruff punk featuring bouncing bass-lines and hoarsely shouted vocals to their side of the split. I'd imagine that if Jersey's Best Dancers and Forever and Counting had a baby, it would look a lot like The Anchor.

MAYFLOWER "Second Best Sunsets" from Kiss of Death
BUY LP • $8.00

This record has been a long time in the making. After self- releasing their first demo and the "Lighter Fluid" 7" (Which featured 2 songs from this LP and a B-side), Mayflower has finally unveiled a sizable chunk of material for the people. This LP is a cynical punk rock jaunt in the vein of Off With Their Heads or Dillinger Four. After the introduction, the record kicks things in gear with the incredibly catchy "I Never..." With varying tempos like the slower "I Want to Live" and the memorably short and fast "Cellophane," Mayflower provide enough variation on this LP to keep it interesting at all times with their rough- around-the-edges brand of punk rock. This one is perfect for drunken singalongs, but also features smarter-than-average songwriting.

NO FRIENDS "Traditional Failures" from Kiss of Death
BUY 12" • $7.00
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

This hardcore supergroup featuring Tony Foresta (Municipal Waste), Richard Minino (New Mexican Disaster Squad, None More Black, Gatorface), Alex Goldfarb (New Mexican Disaster Squad, Gatorface, Virgins) and Sam Johnson (New Mexican Disaster Squad, Virgins) are back with a follow-up to their blistering 2009 s/t debut on No Idea. Their raging 80's hardcore tendencies are still fully intact and even more focused than on their previous effort. This 6 song EP (which rips by in right around 8 minutes) harkens back to 80's hardcore with an equal nod to each coast. Fans of Dag Nasty, Minor Threat and Bad Brains will be equally as pleased as those that lean more towards the western approach of the Adolescents, Black Flag and Descendents. This EP is pressed on one side of an LP at 45 RPM (for maximum sound quality) and features artwork by the bands own drummer (Richard "Horsebites" Minino of the Black Axe).

O PIONEERS / JUNIOR BATTLES from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.75

O Pioneers are back with a brand new song and brand new members as frontman Eric Soloman has enlisted the help of Toronto, Ontario's Junior Battles as not only the co-inhabitants of this split 7" but also as his new backing band. They sound tighter than ever with this driving, aggressive and melodic tune called "Hey! That's my Blood!" If this is a sign of things to come from O Pioneers, then people who haven't taken notice yet really need to jump on board. Pulling double duty here, Junior Battles contribute "Passing Out" as the song on the flip side of this 7". With varying tempos, catchy guitar lines and soaring dueling vocals, Junior Battles bring their own cool brand of pop punk with distinctive nods to the 90's emo scene.

NEW!
O PIONEERS / THE ANCHOR from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.75

This is a re-release of the split 7” that was originally put out in 2008 on Triumph Of Life Records. Side A showcases O Pioneers in their original 2 piece lineup and the song starts out as a mid- tempo jaunt of punk rock energy before careening down the road to darker and more dissonant territory. This song features Eric Soloman at his most furious and accusatory as he shouts his frustration at people that won’t stand up for themselves. The Anchor brings a couple of tracks of gruff punk featuring bouncing bass-lines and hoarsely shouted vocals to their side of the split. I’d imagine that if Jersey’s Best Dancers and Forever and Counting had a baby, it would look a lot like these songs by The Anchor.

PRETTY BOY THORSON AND THE SLOW DEATH / THE STRAIT A'S from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.75

It’s Minneapolis meets Minneapolis on this 6 song split 7” full of catchy pop punk. If you like “Ohhhs,” “Ahhhs,” and dueling male/female vocals then the 4 tracks of fast-paced Ramones style pop punk that THE STRAIT A’S bring to this split are going to be right up your alley. Complete with songs about brainless friends and revenge on an ex, this stuff is just pissed enough to avoid sounding too sugary. PRETTY BOY THORSON & THE SLOW DEATH brings a similar Lookout Records styled approach to their first of their tracks. It’s just as catchy but with a more deliberate pace and a gruffer vocal approach. They close out the record with a cover of “Ray of Sunshine” by short-lived Berkeley based band GO SAILOR.

SENDERS "Recovery" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

The second outing for Gainesville's SENDERS, a classic 45rpm single of two new songs tracked in March 2010. Having built their sound by aping bands like HUM and BRAID, they now deliver new old ideas ripped straight from the FRODUS and APPLESEED CAST playbooks. Octaves and twinkly guitars noodle about between lush dirges and rolling cascades. Friends have also suggested some Gish-era SMASHING PUMPKINS influence, while legendary music critic Chad Darby put down the pipe long enough to note the band's "impressive use of uniquely driving guitars." SENDERS may or may not be trying to pioneer the "stoner-emo" genre, but they definitely did just blow up their van. RIP The Green Dragon. Maximum Rock-n-Roll said this record is "pretty rocking."

STOLEN PARTS "Stolen Parts" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.75

Members of OFF WITH THEIR HEADS, MONIKERS, BRIDGE AND TUNNEL, and LATTERMAN make up Brooklyn’s STOLEN PARTS. These sing-along songs will definitely get stuck in your head. Catchy melodies and gravelly vocals remind you of early 90s’ Lookout Records bands like GREEN DAY and CRIMPSHRINE. Is that enough name dropping for you?

7 songs on a one-sided record! Banner Pilot is a punk band from sunny Minneapolis, MN. What do they sound like? Well, imagine if Jawbreaker, Lawrence Arms and Alkaline Trio got in a knife fight and Jawbreaker won - but just barely. That's what they say they sound like. Does that even make sense? Probably not, but this is the first EP by Banner Pilot that was released only on CD originally and is finally seeing the light of day on this one-sided slab of wax.

BANNER PILOT "Resignation Day" from Kiss of Death/Go Kart
LP temporarily out of stock
CD temporarily out of stock
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

"Good pop punk and Minneapolis seem to go hand in hand, and the new full-length Resignation Day is a perfect example. The record is full of irresistible gritty pop punk that is both gruff and ultra catchy, sounding a bit like JAWBREAKER mixed with DILLINGER FOUR, with a dash of THE LAWRENCE ARMS mixed in for good measure. Banner Pilot proves passionate and has an energy that just can’t be denied and the fact that Nick and Nate used to play in RIVETHEAD and Nate also plays in OFF WITH THEIR HEADS plays a major factor. Furthermore, the real strength of this record is the song writing. The use of catchy vocal hooks, tuneful guitar lines, and bass counter-melodies packed into every track are incredibly effective in their simplicity, and create amazing songs. Not to be matched is the lyrical intent of the album. Metaphoric punches throughout the record with themes of bitterness, regret, and hindsight make Resignation Day a perfect punk record and it just sounds right!" - Bryon/Kiss of Death

BOMB THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! / LAURA STEVENSON & THE CANS from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50

When BOMB THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! started doing tours, the plan was always to tour with our friends and put out split 7"s covering each others' songs for those tours. Not that it really worked out, but when they decided to tour with their friends' bands and play cheaper all ages shows again, LAURA STEVENSON & THE CANS was the obvious choice. This seven inch features one original by each band and one cover of each other’s songs. Following in this theme, the bands designed the cover artwork for each other, making this a perfect summer release to accompany the tour. The LAURA side focuses on sweet melodies and smooth vocals, while the BOMB side aurally represents the reason my buddy Murray says he still likes going to punk rock shows! On various kinds of colored vinyl!

BUY LP • $7.50
BUY CD • $7.75
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

Dumps Luck sounds like a gravelly version of what once was pop punk like if someone took a CD of a pop punk band and then backed over it with a pick up truck. They have a catchiness buried under a thick coating of grit, grim, and sounds from the gutter. Under the sludge there's an enthusiasm to the whole CD that is infectious, and also a slight sarcasm that was once a standard for bands of this genre. "I hate myself but I don't want to die," declares a self-loathing yet funny at the same time. Dumps have got something here drawing inspiration from all things good from Jeff Ott, especially Chrimpshrine and Fifteen.

DRY COUNTY "The Dry County" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.25

This young, coed Tampa trio has built up a rabidly supportive following over the last year through regular shows that flawlessly balances artiness and grit. To call them indie-rock might be misleading, but it's virtually impossible to peg the group any more specifically ? shades of everything from The Smiths and H?sker D? to Smoking Popes-esque pop-punk, and even Ted Leo-like execution provide grist for The Dry County?s cohesive, unique and compelling sound. The threesome?s songs are both familiar yet fresh, and the group?s obvious commitment to approaching it from an original and personal perspective delivers an amazing record. On as side note they were voted Creative Loafing?s ?Best Of The Bay 2006? Best New Band.

FELLOW PROJECT / JONESIN' from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50

Fellow Project: Band Members of the band are into music, horseracing, snakes, knitting, the buried life, etc.. They also play in the following bands that you may want to know, Bridge and Tunnel, On the Might of Princes, Yes Sensei, God's Gift to women, and Church of the Rowdy. Musically, Fellow Project drops some bad-ass Fugazi influenced hits on your ass. - Glenn Jonesin': From the ashes of Down In The Dumps. Sounds like Dukes Of Hillsborough by way of Gunmoll: burlaped voice, like someone's throat is a bedroll of knives, dirt, and glass shards. Florida-ation facial grown rock by way of NYC that's working on, and beginning to succeed, in sounding epic. Not bad at all. – Todd Taylor

GET BENT / JEAN CLAUDE JAM BAND from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50

GET BENT is members of POTBOILER and DOWN IN THE DUMPS. It perks up the ears form the first listen, with a nod to that mid- 90's sound. On this record is the best JEAN CLAUDE JAM BAND song to date (this is Barker Gee of RINGERS earlier band). I think JCJB called it a day with this amazing twangy southern fried punk, but who knows with Barker... maybe they will resurface again? The only thing one could wish for on this 7" is more music! (On assorted colored vinyl!)

GUILTMAKER "Driven By Arms" from Kiss of Death

Guiltmaker is a fantastic post-hardcore indie rock band featuring members from such hardcore acts as Early Grace, Reversal of Man, and Combat Wounded Veteran. This is the first EP from these Floridian gritty pop-punk hook-meisters. Often thought of as a southern JAWBREAKER or CRIMPSHRINE for all the right reasons. Ryan used to be in DISCOUNT and Monikers was started in a vain attempt to recapture his lost youth, but now he mostly just makes snide comments to everyone he meets for no good reason. "This release should cement the bands place as a pop-punk legends due to the bands gritty vocals and cynical lyrics. I mean anything can happen" -- a friend of the band...

MONIKERS "Wake Up" from Kiss of Death
BUY LP • $7.50
BUY CD • $7.75

Featuring a member of the long-defunct Florida legends Discount, people tend to say Monikers ?Wake Up? sounds like Jawbreaker, Leatherface, and a bunch of other 90's pop punk bands. What they don't know is that Monikers are probably the best band in the whole world right now. Monikers first full length record ?Wake Up? is the product of years of slacking off, years of avoiding practice, and years of playing shows far too drunk for their own good, if they even show up at all. Still, somehow Monikers managed to get the songs down and record an album through minimal effort ready to bring their brand of gruff pop punk to the masses. ?Wake Up? should be a welcome addition to the present state of music. It's pretty good too.

MONIKERS / BANNER PILOT from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50

Gruff Pop Punk by the way of Minneapolis and Orlando. Banner Pilot plays mid-western punk, drawing as much from The Lawrence Arms as it does Dillinger Four and early Jawbreaker, and what results are great rough-edged pop-punk songs, featuring members from Rivethead. Monikers sound a bit more like cement mixer vocals over catchy guitar riffs that sound like nothing you've ever heard before. unless you've heard Jawbreaker, Leatherface, Stiff Little Fingers, or Crimpshrine.

MOUTHBREATHER "Mouthbreather" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50

1st PRESSING - 300+/- 7 INCHES (Clear Green) Mouthbreather was formed from the ashes of Richmond groups WOW, OWLS! and THE SETUP. Playing music that is similar to both and yet still their own, the quartet keeps Richmond's punk and hardcore roots alive on this 2 song seven inch recorded in Louisville, KY with Chris Owens (LORDS). As a precursor for an upcoming full length, these songs capture the band's creative and innovative music.

BUY LP • $7.50
BUY CD • $7.75

Mouthbreather?s first full length record, captured by Chris Owens (LORDS), is a slice of punk played with a chip on its shoulder. Raw and stripped down, the songs are unrelenting attacks similar to members' past groups WOW, OWLS! and THE SETUP but still maintaining a new musical identity, keeping Richmond's punk and hardcore roots in mind. By no means is this album the safe and comforting punk that you would find in a local suburban mall, but it is a loose extension of the angst of bands like Black Flag with songs that give a sarcastic, and at times jaded, look at the scene and life.

The Peace With Nothing 7? is their follow up to 2006's Don?t Believe, with three originals and a cover of ?Here?s Your Warning? by 7 Seconds). The three originals songs are shorter then past NMDS songs and still have plenty of melody, grizzly vocals, biting lyrics and blaring riffs to please any fan of their previous efforts. "No Protection," the first track, is one minute long but is straight to the point and full of energy. All three are brimming with enough energy and passion to warrant several listens. The cover is also great with the band seeming to absorb 7 Seconds? style.

BUY CD • $8.75

"It may sound cliché, but sometimes an album just speaks to you. In the case of Neon Creeps, O Pioneers talk about real life, about meeting real life head on and how absolutely and insanely overwhelming it is. Over a charging melodic backdrop, front man Eric shouts out his frustrations with money, old friends, the city and the various problems that everyone deals with daily. However, the band always pushes through all the bullshit to offer some small kind of hope. Not only are there plenty of “don’t let it get you down” and such offered in their songs, but sometimes Eric gets his way and lets everyone know. As great as the lyrics are, they’re dependent on the music beneath them to validate them, and in the case of Neon Creeps, it never disappoints. O Pioneers brand of punk sounds strangely more uplifting than it does abrasive. While in a way it could be argued that the point was always more about cathartic salvation than any kind of externally-focused confrontation, few bands have managed to make it all sound as personal and listenable as O Pioneers!" --Key parts paraphrased and stolen from the review written by: Marc Z. "THE SERIOUS GENIUSES sound a ton like the mid-to-late 90's power-post punk with a heavy nod in the direction of "Icky Mettle" era Archers of Loaf if they were fronted by a Tim Kinsella that didn't spend his adolescent and high school years constantly getting wedgies and swirlies from neighborhood street toughs. There's a languid pace with the fantastic noodly guitar licks bands like the aforementioned AoL, Pavement, Ben Lee and others set forth, with the good, crunchy bits of "Bivouac"-era Jawbreaker tossed in for good measure." -Pocket Full Of Chump Change JEAN CLAUDE JAM BAND serves up two tracks of perfect punky power-pop. BUY 7" • $3.50

9 dudes, 4 bands, 1 amazing 7"! Confused? Well, Sam from New Mexican Disaster Squad decide to start a new band called Virgins with Eric from Polluted Youth and Phil. Shortly after, two other members from NMDS (Alex and Richard) got together with Nick from Polluted Youth and Quilty to start Gatorface (Paper & Plastick Records). This record features the last (and maybe the best) NMDS song ever recorded and artwork from HORSEBITES. Take part in the convoluted fun! **Comes on assorted colored vinyl!

VIRGINS "Miscarriage" from Kiss of Death

Virgins hail from Orlando, FL and feature Sam of New Mexican Disaster Squad. This record is not a rehash of NMDS, but a whole new animal, reminiscent of 80's hardcore punk like ADOLESCENTS and THE STOOGES. Raw, snotty, and full of angst, this trio also adds a dose of southern fried dirt rockin' hooks and riffs that are guaranteed to have people singing along with the stereo blasting on ten. The record will either get you grounded or kicked out of your parents house as you mosh up your bedroom.

WHISKEY TRENCH "Television" from Kiss of Death
BUY LP • $8.00
BUY CD • $7.75

Whiskey Trench's "Television" is a feisty mid-tempo punk album in the time-honored Naked Raygun / Jawbreaker tradition. This French Canadian foursome takes some interesting twists and turns on the new album that one might not expect. The track "Vicious Sore" features definite moments of Screeching Weasel-esque vocals and standout track "Lifelong Sentence" sounds as if it could have easily been a part of Social Distortions earlier punker records. Interspersed between the catchy raging anthems are a couple of excellent instrumental tracks that bring to mind early rockers The Kinks. Lyrically it is introspective, musically the foundation is built tight.

WITCHES WITH DICKS "American Railroads" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.50

Take really gruff post-punk vocals and pair it with good and simple pop-punk arrangements and you get Witches With Dicks and deserve to have their records added to the collections of anybody into bands such as Screeching Weasel and Dillinger Four. American Railroads is the follow up to the band's first full-length Manual. It's certainly a suitable follow up and one that will leave any fan of their previous work happy. Their songs are short, hard and poppy enough to maintain any accessibility necessary to allow the listener to become hooked at first listen. They sing about breakups and singing about anarchy, stopping often for moments of reflection and self-criticism. Most bands are ready to blow up but this band will probably implode.

Witches With Dicks sounds like a band named on a dare and they probably were. Nevertheless, they have a better chance of upping the ante for punk rock in 2007 then any of their cautiously named counterparts. The intelligent yet snotty anthems on their debut album, Manual, should silence any doubt. Loosely influenced by bands like Screeching Weasel, The Replacements, Jawbreaker, and The Lemonheads, they have scratched their own niche in the Boston punk scene with the help of other local bands/friends such as Ringers, Conversions, and Lock And Key.

Gainesville's finest tendons have parted and the blueberry rain falls like... uh... RAIN!! YOUNG LIVERS features folks from GLASS & ASHES, FIYA, and other musical brutarians and luminaries. Were I to say it sounded like Thin Lizzy, I would be taking a leap of journalistic license, but damn, those dueling guitar leads and jams do ignite the soul's furnace in ways unexpected and joyous! So let's drop names like the verb farmers we all are: Glass and Ashes, Wipers, Hoover, Drive Like Jehu, Sleepytime Trio, beer and good times hanging out at the show with brothers and sisters in arms. Hell yeah, that's what I say.
