DOWN IN THE DUMPS "Dumps Luck" from Kiss of Death
BUY LP • $6.75
BUY CD • $7.50

Dumps Luck sounds like a gravelly version of what once was pop punk like if someone took a CD of a pop punk band and then backed over it with a pick up truck. They have a catchiness buried under a thick coating of grit, grim, and sounds from the gutter. Under the sludge there's an enthusiasm to the whole CD that is infectious, and also a slight sarcasm that was once a standard for bands of this genre. "I hate myself but I don't want to die," declares a self-loathing yet funny at the same time. Dumps have got something here drawing inspiration from all things good from Jeff Ott, especially Chrimpshrine and Fifteen.

DRY COUNTY "The Dry County" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.25

This young, coed Tampa trio has built up a rabidly supportive following over the last year through regular shows that flawlessly balances artiness and grit. To call them indie-rock might be misleading, but it’s virtually impossible to peg the group any more specifically — shades of everything from The Smiths and Hüsker Dü to Smoking Popes-esque pop-punk, and even Ted Leo-like execution provide grist for The Dry County’s cohesive, unique and compelling sound. The threesome’s songs are both familiar yet fresh, and the group’s obvious commitment to approaching it from an original and personal perspective delivers an amazing record. On as side note they were voted Creative Loafing’s “Best Of The Bay 2006” Best New Band.

GUILTMAKER "Driven By Arms" from Kiss of Death
BUY CD • $5.25

Guiltmaker is a fantastic post-hardcore indie rock band featuring members from such hardcore acts as Early Grace, Reversal of Man, and Combat Wounded Veteran. Guiltmaker's surprise is that their sound could not be more different from those names than it actually is. Melodic, sometimes melancholic but always sympathic...

LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE "Light Yourself on Fire" from Kiss of Death

An abrasive and hard hitting first release from these established Floridians(ex-REVERSAL OF MAN, ex-SCROG, ex-OMEGA MAN, and ex-BRUTALITY). With an new focus, LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE have their own sophisticated, intelligent, intensely violent take on metal, "power death" (power violence + death metal). This new sound is evident through this entire record and it is gripping.

MONIKERS "Eat Your Young" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.25
BUY CDep • $5.25

This is the first EP from these Floridian gritty pop-punk hook-meisters. Often thought of as a southern JAWBREAKER or CRIMPSHRINE for all the right reasons. Ryan used to be in DISCOUNT and Monikers was started in a vain attempt to recapture his lost youth, but now he mostly just makes snide comments to everyone he meets for no good reason. "This release should cement the bands place as a pop-punk legends due to the bands gritty vocals and cynical lyrics. I mean anything can happen" -- a friend of the band...

MONIKERS / BANNER PILOT from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.25

Gruff Pop Punk by the way of Minneapolis and Orlando. Banner Pilot plays mid-western punk, drawing as much from The Lawrence Arms as it does Dillinger Four and early Jawbreaker, and what results are great rough-edged pop-punk songs, featuring members from Rivethead. Monikers sound a bit more like cement mixer vocals over catchy guitar riffs that sound like nothing you've ever heard before. unless you've heard Jawbreaker, Leatherface, Stiff Little Fingers, or Crimpshrine. If you are not familiar with either band, -Welcome to Punk Rock in 2007

As a precursor for an upcoming full length, these songs capture the band's creative and innovative music.

Tampa, Florida's NEW BRUISES deliver two clever and catchy songs in their anthemic punk rock style. Still comparable to Hot Water Music, Latterman and maybe even J Church, featuring ex-members Mid Carson July. STOLEN BIKES RIDE FASTER are named ofter a GRADE song and the Italian band play a brand of melodic hardcore similar to their namesake, yet are hardly a carbon copy.

NEW MEXICAN DISASTER SQUAD "Peace With Nothing (USA VERSION)" from Kiss of Death

It's the USA version, with a different song #4! Songs are: "No Protection", "Peace With Nothing", "Abandoned", and "Here's Your Warning"! We have these on Orange, White, Green, & Blue vinyl! New Mexican Disaster Squad has been greatly successful in their past offerings and now they are back. The Peace With Nothing 7” is their follow up to 2006's Don’t Believe, with three originals and a cover of “Here’s Your Warning” by 7 Seconds). The three originals songs are shorter then past NMDS songs and still have plenty of melody, grizzly vocals, biting lyrics and blaring riffs to please any fan of their previous efforts. "No Protection," the first track, is one minute long but is straight to the point and full of energy. All three are brimming with enough energy and passion to warrant several listens. The cover is also great with the band seeming to absorb 7 Seconds’ style.

SERIOUS GENIUSES / JEAN CLAUDE JAM BAND from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.25

"THE SERIOUS GENIUSES sound a ton like the mid-to-late 90's power-post punk with a heavy nod in the direction of "Icky Mettle" era Archers of Loaf if they were fronted by a Tim Kinsella that didn't spend his adolescent and high school years constantly getting wedgies and swirlies from neighborhood street toughs. There's a languid pace with the fantastic noodly guitar licks bands like the aforementioned AoL, Pavement, Ben Lee and others set forth, with the good, crunchy bits of "Bivouac"-era Jawbreaker tossed in for good measure." -Pocket Full Of Chump Change JEAN CLAUDE JAM BAND serves up two tracks of perfect punky power-pop. Barker from Witches with Dicks, and the Ringers hand-wrote and delivered these fine tunes with friends backing him. These 2 songs may be some of the best gritty power-pop punk in ages. Think old, old school Superchunk.

WITCHES WITH DICKS "American Railroads" from Kiss of Death
BUY 7" • $3.25

Take really gruff post-punk vocals and pair it with good and simple pop-punk arrangements and you get Witches With Dicks and deserve to have their records added to the collections of anybody into bands such as Screeching Weasel and Dillinger Four. American Railroads is the follow up to the band's first full-length Manual. It's certainly a suitable follow up and one that will leave any fan of their previous work happy. Their songs are short, hard and poppy enough to maintain any accessibility necessary to allow the listener to become hooked at first listen. They sing about breakups and singing about anarchy, stopping often for moments of reflection and self-criticism. Most bands are ready to blow up but this band will probably implode.

WITCHES WITH DICKS "Manual" from Kiss of Death
BUY LP • $6.75
BUY CD • $7.50

Witches With Dicks sounds like a band named on a dare and they probably were. Nevertheless, they have a better chance of upping the ante for punk rock in 2007 then any of their cautiously named counterparts. The intelligent yet snotty anthems on their debut album, Manual, should silence any doubt. Loosely influenced by bands like Screeching Weasel, The Replacements, Jawbreaker, and The Lemonheads, they have scratched their own niche in the Boston punk scene with the help of other local bands/friends such as Ringers, Conversions, and Lock And Key.

Gainesville's finest tendons have parted and the blueberry rain falls like... uh... RAIN!! YOUNG LIVERS features folks from GLASS & ASHES, FIYA, and other musical brutarians and luminaries. Were I to say it sounded like Thin Lizzy, I would be taking a leap of journalistic license, but damn, those dueling guitar leads and jams do ignite the soul's furnace in ways unexpected and joyous! So let's drop names like the verb farmers we all are: Glass and Ashes, Wipers, Hoover, Drive Like Jehu, Sleepytime Trio, beer and good times hanging out at the show with brothers and sisters in arms. Hell yeah, that's what I say.
