A LOSS FOR WORDS Motown Classics CD from Paper + Plastick - Boston's pop-punk quintet A LOSS FOR WORDS make their Paper + Plastick Records debut with a Motown covers album! "Our band listens to anything from American Nightmare to Coldplay to New Found Glory, and everything in between,"says vocalist Matty Arsenault. I grew up listening to R&B and have always wanted to do something like this! We just felt it was the perfect time to try something new and have some fun with it. We're very excited for everyone to hear us spice up some classic R&B hits!" A Loss For Words recorded the 10-song cover album with Chris Curran at Webster Lake Studios in Boston, and reworked classic R&B and Motown songs from the Jackson 5, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and more. The band has been performing select covers on the road, including their acoustic take on The Temptations 'My Girl." The album version is a pop-punk gem which features additional vocals from Jordan Brown of Set Your Goals, while fellow Boston-ites Dan O'Connor and Alan Day of Four Year Strong make a vocal appearance on the Jackson 5 track. ACEPHALIX Aporia LP/CD from Prank - Ultra downtuned, crushing metallic punk assault. A tungsten gnarl of immense grimy heaviness, the debut LP by San Francisco’s ACEPHALIX touches on influences of bands from divergent points of punk, metal and hardcore - SACRILEDGE, CRO-MAGS, NAUSEA, MOTORHEAD, HELLSHOCK, ANTI-CIMEX - but none of those exactly pinpoints where the band is at and where the continually evolving band is headed, as they brawl through attacks of D-Beat, dirge and thrash. Classic harmonized metal leads and feedback fly as gutteral vocals spit and growl, with sturdy rhythms supporting the dark melodic undercurrent that drives this crushing, pounding, dense metal-punk hybrid. Massive production by Jef Leppard in the dark attic of Lennon Studios and mastered by George Horn Mastering. The 13 tracks (14 on the CD) are complemented by equally bleak, dark and grim lyrics, making for an impressively solid debut. BUY LP:$9.00

AUTISTIC YOUTH Idle Minds LP from Dirtnap - Long awaited 2nd album from hardworking PDX youngsters, following up their classic "Landmine Beach" LP, as well as singles on Black Water, Rock Bottom, Taken By Surprise, and more. Driving, melodic punk/hardcore (but NOT "melodic hardcore" if ya get the distinction) with dark, swirling undercurrents. Catcy but not at all vapid. Sounding like a cross between Portland, Southern California, and Copenhagen, you could compare this to bands like Observers/Red Dons, No Hope For The Kids, Articles Of Faith, Reagan Youth, The Wipers, Adolecscents, etc etc. We've wanted to do something with these guys forever, and while the recording process took longer than normal, but we think it was well worth the wait. BOMB, THE Speed is Everything LP/CD from No Idea Records - "Naked Raygun was a huge inspiration for me. Along with Fugazi and Leatherface, they helped create the bedrock that defines the "Gainesville sound". As much as I discredit the root idea that such a sound even exists or is quantifiable to such a finite point, I will at least concede that there are certain key influences for many a young (at heart) local miscreant. I digress. The fact that twenty-one years after NR played a legion hall in Gainesville, we are putting out a record that not only stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best NR album, but perhaps surpasses, well, this blows me away. I have a hard time finding words that express how much Pezzati's voice shakes me to the core. So I'll abandon words entirely and quote the man himself "Whoa Hey Ho". Yes. This record means that much. Crafting the music and bringing the workhorse/powerhouse ethic are Jeff Dean, Mike Soucy, and Pete Mittler, who have truly risen to the occasion. They have been in countless Chicago bands, and continue to split their time with several noteworthy, exceptional bands, including The Methadones and Four Star Alarm. Energy. Focus. Intensity. As if it could get any better, the album was recorded by J. Robbins, who also makes appearances on various songs. He really brought out the best in the band and songs, amplifying and directing, especially in the vocal harmonies and melodies. Pezzati turned in vocals on the last Paint It Black album, and Dan Yemin returns the favor here. Bob Nanna also lends his inimitable pipes to the mix." - -Var **LP includes download code! Culled from various line-ups of the band from 1989 to 1993, "The Rebel Sound..." ranges from the early years of heavily Life's Blood-style New York hardcore sludginess, to the band's final darker and more experimental release. Includes early version of "Mary and Child" and "Well Fed Fuck", the Jefferson's Theme song, "Eulogy", "Bit Part In A Bad Movie". Re-mastered from the Vermiform version, this is first time this record has been available in four years and features a re-done cover from the earlier Prank Pressing, adhering a little more closely to the original Vermiform release. 1000 made / available for a limited time only. BRIDGE AND TUNNEL East/West LP/CD from No Idea - Okay, so you've got this badass record, recorded by a bunch of really nice people, each committed in their own way to underground networking, friendships, and speaking out against society's ills. Two ladies and two gentlemen. The main vocals alternate between Jeff and Rachel, with Tia chiming in and everyone stepping up in the choruses, weaving their voices throughout. The guitars interplay in exciting ways one exploring a tangent, the other grounding. They like burritos, coffee, bicycles, and good karma. Their songs are aggressive and loud with large amounts of reverb. Engaging, melodic, and soothing when they want to be, they ebb and flow, taking plenty of time to unfold. BRIDGE AND TUNNEL remind me of an aggressive CURSIVE or BRAID with the rhythmic backbone of HOT WATER MUSIC or FUGAZI and a swirl of later-era SMALL BROWN BIKE. There you go! BRIDGE AND TUNNEL Indoor Voices 10" from No Idea - **On assorted colored vinyl! (see discography... or order X-# and we will send as many colors as we can) A chronicle of the last five songs Bridge And Tunnel wrote with their original line-up, prior to the departure of bassist Tia. Fusing their vigorously intertwining guitar work with jazzier rhythms harkens back to the early Polyvinyl days of American Football and Braid, while frantic changes anchored by sweeping vocal melodies invoke a strong nod to At the Drive-In. Lyrically, they continue to bare a strong DC influence, expounding a critical and politicized world view while frequently turning the crosshairs on themselves for an introspective self-analysis. Put plainly, these five songs are Bridge And Tunnel at the top of their game. BUY 10":$8.00

CHUCK RAGAN & AUSTIN LUCAS Bristle Ridge LP/CD from Ten Four Records - "Hello friends! I've just completed a new record with some great friends. Jon Gaunt and I teamed up with Austin Lucas, his father Bob Lucas, and Bass fiddle man Digger Barnes. Together we hit it off from the start and comprised a solid record of 12 numbers. What we came up with was a great and special moment unexpected by all of us there. Austin and I have planned this project for sometime now, even though this record is considered a split collaboration between all of us involved. The songs consist of 3 Chuck Ragan originals, 3 Austin Lucas originals, 3 Ragan/Lucas originals, 1 original by Bob Lucas, and 2 old time standards called Darling Corey and Distant Land To Roam. The record has a very strong sense of bluegrass, folk and old time gospel, with a certain feel of exactly where we were and what was going on when we laid it down, which was a group of strangers coming together to enjoy good food and music up in the hills on the highest point of Ohio for a week, and leaving as friends by the end. We recorded this session at Bob Lucas and Laura Gayle's home on top of Bristle Ridge in Zanesfield, Ohio. It was truly a sight and time to remember and we owe these kindred spirits for this great memory!" --Chuck BUY LP:$10.50

CREEPS, THE Follow You Home 7" from It's Alive - The Creeps have been doing their thing for the better part of a decade now. Their first album in 2003 (Gamma Gamma Ray) was very much in the vain of the sci-fi-horror-outter-space meets girls-with-problems pop punk thing popular throughout the late 90's into early 00's. Though they were totally proficient and capable of rocking a good tune, it wasn't anything terribly fresh. Their next album in 2005 (Back To The Bin) had something new to offer in the guitar leads department, but otherwise wasn't too different in style or sound. It was, however, themed from start to finish - something pretty much trademark for the band ever since. 2008 saw the release of their third album (Lakeside Cabin) on which The Creeps really found their own sound. They got comfortable slowing it down and experimenting with song structures and really sparse yet effective backing vocals. Skottie's lead vocals were improved almost to the point of reinvention - they're unmistakable once familiarized with them. Later that year they released their first 7" EP (These Walls). It was on that EP that The Creeps really claimed the sound that is now their own and took a big step out into less trodden territory in the world of pop punk rock. That brings us to now... Follow You Home is The Creeps' sound perfected! Incredible lead and backing vocals, bright and shiny guitar leads over driving rhythms, thick clean bass lines over precision drum beats... it's all there. It's hard to imagine them getting any better than this, but then again it has been and upward trend ever since their beginning... BUY 7":$3.75

CROW Bloody Tear LP from Prank - Bombastic crust-metal from Tokyo, an ultra brutal lightning attack of searing riffs, wild solos, screaming vocals and crushing rhythm section. Bleak intent and searing metallic mayhem, CROW have dotted the landscape of Japanese hardcore punk since its inception and just seem to get more devastating with age!! This is a slightly altered and remastered version of their first full length / second LP since the 1980's with 9 tracks that were originally released by Prank in 2007. Some of the songs are intense re-recorded versions of some of their classic tracks (including their Signature track "Give Up All Hope" that has been covered by numerous bands including the UK"s legendary Doom) as well as new recordings of songs from their recent ultra- limited Japanese releases. This is the official vinyl release of this LP, which was released as a CD-only on the Mangrove label in Japan. The LP sequence has slight variations in both track listing and mixes. CROW are touring in California and appearing at the "Chaos in Tejas" Festival in May. 1000 made / available for a limited time only. BUY LP:$8.50
CROW Flock of Beast 7" from Prank - Clear vinyl re-press limited to 500! Tokyo legends Crow deliver two blasting tracks of doomy, metallic punk mayhem - "Flock Of Beast" and "Flock Of Beast 2". Thundering deeper into epic, mid-tempo territory on the A-side with Crow's trademark boisterous vocals over searing riffs, this EP echoes their recent "The Beating Of The Wings Of Destruction" 12" by exploding on the B-side into ferocious, fast paced hardcore. Crow's origins date back to the early Japanese punk scene of the 1980s, but they have attacked in the last decade with a renewed intensity, culminating this decade in three US tours and a second album "Bloody Tear" which was released in the U.S. by Prank in 2007. BUY 7":$3.25
CROW Neurotic Organization 7" from Prank - Red vinyl re-press limited to 400! Dark and bleak hardcore cornered in metallic rock, but thundering with determined intent. Fueled by the upbeat energy of Japanese hardcore, but drawing longer mid tempo compositions of shouted despair, pounded drum beats and screaming guitars influenced by UK bands such as ANTISECT and AMEBIX, the EP includes a rollicking cover of AMEBIX'S "No Sanctuary". Crow has been on and off the hardcore scene for almost two decades, with numerous releases in Japan. This was their first US release in 2001, recorded in Oakland at Polymorph Studios and has been out of print for over six years, with cover art and design by Carl Auge of His Hero Is Gone and Drain the Sky. The cover has been re-worked for this re-release. BUY 7":$3.25
CROW The Beating of the Wings of Destruction PICTURE DISC 12" from Prank - Pure savagery! A five song 12” EP that fires a punishing volley of metallic riffs, explosive drumming and gravel-raked vocals, Tokyo’s long running hardcore band CROW alternate between a long one-track A-side of thundering dirge and a B-side of four tracks of unleashed, non-stop hardcore fury. Issued in Japan in 2008 on CROW’s own Crow records label, this received miniscule distribution stateside and has absolutely burly cut’n’paste cover art by Crow’s vocalist, so was re-issued as a deluxe 12” picture disc for their recent U.S. shows and appearance at Austin, Texas’s “CHAOS IN TEJAS” festival. One time pressing from the original DMM master plates, limited to 800 copies. BUY 12":$9.50

DEFIANCE, OHIO The Fear, The Fear, The Fear LP/CD from No Idea - This is exactly what we needed to get us through the day: direct, yet sometimes poetic and personal lyrics that touch on politics and daily life, lotsa instruments weaving in and out, great string interplay... exactly what the doc ordered. Both realistic and uplifting, all the while grounded and imaginative. This may well be their best yet. "The List" melts my brain every time. Oh yeah, and the art is cool... same kinda printing as last time, poster insert, etc. (Watch out for the huge marketing campaign and ad spots on the WB. Just kidding! Haha!) BUY LP:$7.00

DELAY Plain Language LP/CD from Salinas/Plan-It-X - Delay's sixth full length blitzes by, leaving you dizzy with thinking-person's melodies. If you thought you knew this Ohio band, this record deserves a close listen. The band have learned to squeeze a ton out of the bare bones three-piece with beautifully crafted guitar lines, and harmonies bouncing back and forth. It's sometimes a loaded statement to say a pop-punk band has matured, but 2009 was a good vintage for Delay. BUY LP:$8.50

DESOLATION Rest in Panic 7" from Prank - The Bay Area's DESOLATION return! Blasting metallic hardcore fusing the melodic influence of Japanese "burning spirits" hardcore with straightforward attack of US thrash and the dark tone of European crust. DESOLATION went on hiatus shortly after their self-tilted Prank debut LP of 2005, but return with a new vocalist and three new tracks. Fusing influences of the members' previous and current bands-BORN/DEAD, ABRUPT, STRUNG UP, SCURVY DOGS with a marked inspiration from Japanese hardcore with relentless upbeat energy and searing leads, these are the fastest DESOLATION tracks yet, but still retain the complex song writing and bleak feel of their previous releases. DIRTY TACTICS It Is What It Is CD from Say-10 Records - Are they punks? Are they furious road warriors? Are they hardened would-be gangsters who simply got caught up listening to the wrong kind of music at an early age? Yes, yes, and probably. Earning their bloodstripes through aggressive hustling in their formative years, by their early twenties they found themselves lost to the road. Adrift, they floated between bands as little more than mercenaries. Eventually finding themselves embittered and weary of the professional punk circuit, Dirty Tactics retooled and reconveined, freshly blood bound to follow the beat of their own drum. Their ethic is both unquestionable and uncompromising – one that few would dare to emulate. The driving tempos and contagious vocal melodies are harnessed by masterful songcraft, a clever comandeering of the skills they learned during their time in high-profile bands. In swaths of brutal honesty they hold true to their tastes, bejewelling their album with subtle layers of keys and back-ups, unafraid to embrace the more pop-oriented facets of their collective backgrounds while holding fiercely true to the genre. In both art and form they now flex their once- bound brawn, delivering a commanding album that is as exhubrant and liberating as it is well-crafted and conceived. As an added bonus, no matter where you’re reading this from, they’re probably making plans to come visit sometime soon. BUY CD:$7.00

ESTRANGED The Subliminal Man LP/CD from Dirtnap - Dirtnap Records is proud to bring you the 2nd album from Portland dark-punk kings! Past and present members of Portland hardcore mainstays such as Remains Of The Day, Hellshock, Warcry, Lebenden Toten, etc pull a 180 and dish out ten tracks of icy, ominous postpunk. Since their last release, The Estranged have dialed back the explicit aggression of their early singles a bit, and dialed up the textured, atmospheric, layered sounds of prime 80s deathrock/postpunk. A little less US influence, a little more UK.........A little less Wipers, a little more Cure/Chameleons UK/Joy Division, etc. .......... The Subliminal Man was painstakingly, impeccably recorded at Type Foundry Studios in Portland and features 8 new ones, a re- recording of "Statue In A Room" (originally released as a split 7" with Autistic Youth) and a rather stunning cover of The Flys' 1978 classic "Love And A Molotov Cocktail". You need this. All LPs come with download coupon. "Think Bauhaus or Sisters Of Mercy, but by dyed-in-the-wool punks shorn of spookiness and frilly-edged shirts. Artful pretense is replaced by hard-edged instruments and scuffed boots." - Razorcake "Beautifully depressing songs that are probably at this minute mimicking the equally miserable Portland weather. FELLOW PROJECT / GO SELL DRUGS 7" from Kiss of Death - Fellow Project are back with a couple of of new tracks of their dynamic and catchy brand of poppy post punk. The opening track "Eggshells" is a driving yet off kilter head-banging tune that is heavy, catchy and dynamic. "Backstretch" is a more straightforward yet sad sounding mid-tempo jaunt that is perfect for a good sing-along. Go Sell Drugs bring a tougher, bar chord heavy approach to the first song on their side of the split. However, they're not short on dynamics. The second track "Shitstorm" features giant gang vocals on the chorus, a dual vocal approach to the bridge and some sweet soaring octaves - you'll be pumping your fist to this track in no time. BUY 7":$3.75
FELLOW PROJECT / THOUSANDAIRES 7" from Kiss of Death - Somewhere between angular post-punk and straight up punk rock lays Fellow Project. Featuring members of Bridge and Tunnel, the band’s songs feature jangly riffs, staggered tempos, monumental buildups and good old upbeat sing-alongs with male and female dueling vocals. They sound novel and familiar all at the same time. Thousandaires approach the same idea with a slightly more upbeat and straightforward take. The vocals call to mind early Hot Water Music, but the song writing is less traditional and more punk at the same time. Noodling guitars scale the fretboards, but not in a crummy tech metal way. The songs sound like they are written with a nod to the mid-nineties era bands but this is still punk. BUY 7":$3.75

FIYA Magic Words LP from No Idea - Blistering barnacles! The FIYA record is here, the FIYA record is here! Shout it from the rooftops! Shout it from underneath the sink! I pretty much nailed it last time, so let me see if I can update that blurb: “Magic Words” is a short (okay, so it's about twice as long as "Better Days"), fast blast of energy, enthusiasm, and inspiration... an exciting kick-in-the-ass that encourages active participation, balanced with thoughtful contemplation! FIYA is a Gainesville, Florida collection of siblings, housemates, and neighbors (two of whom moved away, then moved back) who have been touring and recording for several years (well, they took a break and played THE FEST and HARVEST OF HOPE last year). “Magic Words” is the band’s most focused effort: the songs are fast (and medium), melodic punk and the lyrics navigate the ways people try to imagine, articulate, and work towards a more compassionate world. Urgent and uplifting, raw and refreshing! Wrap that up with stunning art by Nate Powell!! First pressing on your choice of GREEN/WHITE SPLIT-COLOR or BLACK vinyl! Includes download code! BUY LP:$8.00

GATORFACE Wasted Monuments LP/CD from No Idea - GET FACED! With the word "Wasted" featured prominently on the cover, Gatorface is primed to be perceived as a ferocious party animal... and although they can certainly carry their weight if this is a challenge (are you threatening me?), the record easily bridges the vast gulf betwixt melodic hardcore and fast punk. Formed from the ashes of New Mexican Disaster Squad, Gatorface rises like a vaporous phoenix to free you from the bother of finding another album to play (just hit "repeat"). Fast, melodic, positive, negative, smart, hot & spicy. GOODNIGHT LOVING Nothing Conquers Us 7" from Dirtnap - Soulful, energetic alt country/garage/americana/whatever from hard-touring, crazy-prolific basement Milwaukee punk kids. Inventive songwriting with a depth and diversity of influence that belies these guys' relatively young ages. "2 new songs from one of our very favorite bands in the current American underground. Seriously, we listen to at least one (often more) of their 3 albums just about every day here at Dirtnap HQ." - Ken/Dirtnap BUY 7":$3.50
GOODNIGHT LOVING The Goodnight Loving Supper Club LP/CD from Dirtnap - GOODNIGHT LOVING have become a Milwaukee institution, but unlike "Laverne and Shirley" or Pabst Blue Ribbon, they're still here adding to their legend. The Goodnight Loving Supper Club is another milestone in that legend, expanding on their already classic sound of country-and folk-laced rock ‘n roll by forging head-long into psychedelia, surf, spaghetti western, and anything else exotic enough to send your neurons into an electrified dance of pop induced pleasure. With this their new album, GOODNIGHT LOVING follow in the footsteps of The Great American Rock & Roll Bands (ie. CCR, The Hawks, Crazy Horse, Big Star, The Replacements et al), reimagining the conventions of our native rock n' roll in a way that's both fresh and timeless. The Goodnight Loving Supper Club is the band’s first recording as a four piece, yet the sonic landscape they paint is more lush and nuanced than ever. Like all great bands around for more than an album or two, they're maturing and pioneering, effortlessly weaving in ideas from unlikely sources to color their songs in ways that seem strange at first, but then obvious upon reflection. This is immediately apparent from the moment the needle drops, moving brusquely between 60's British invasion- style psychedelia and twangy folk melancholy, to jangly barnstormers and songs of dark, bittersweet paranoia effortlessly and naturally. Along the album's path we are treated to brief forays into tragic 50's pop a la Del Shannon, Ennio Morricone on Mars instrumentals, nods to Roger Miller, and sugary, mind-warping harmonic nuggets. Dirtnap Records' 100th release, and we couldn't have asked for a better one! BUY LP:$9.00

GRABASS CHARLESTONS The Greatest Story Ever Hula'd LP/CD from No Idea - Back in print on new GREY vinyl!! Here's a really cool review for this album too, woohoo! "Sweat dripping, whiskey-drowned dirty Florida punk at its finest. Like Tiltwheel, the tones are bright and happy, but the sentiment is dark, ultra-articulate, and sad. Like Leatherface, the guitars weave in tight, then splay apart and shimmer. It's like you're immersed in their songs, filled with metaphoric life preservers and harpoons. Like Dillinger Four, no instrument takes the easy way out. Pure propulsion and fireworks. Like the Beltones, Will is drumming, but he's also singing, and it's catchy, hard-drinking, working class without-the-cliche punk rock. Ultimately -and the final testament- is that the Grabass Charlestons are a band that others will start being compared to. A top-of-2003 for me, no doubt." -Todd/Razorcake BUY LP:$8.00

HAVE NOTS Serf City USA LP from Paper + Plastick - "Riddled throughout this snarled-upper lip rock ‘n’ roll effort is a sound that’s likely to make most would-be ska bands nervously upchuck their breakfasts. Upon first inspection, the Have Nots seem to adhere to the traditional boozy pub-rock formula, one that’s cemented in “There’s Gonna Be a Riot,” the first track on Serf City USA. Before long and without warning the record gives way to sonically charged ska-punk brilliancy and that’s a sentiment not to be taken lightly by even the most casual of listeners... If you’re looking for a healthy spark in an otherwise over- saturated genre, then the Have Nots are probably a good choice for your listening ears. Forget about the industry clutter and the many cookie-cutter punk bands that rely on a horn section to fit the bill; the Have Nots actually do the genre some justice and come out sounding fresh and new." - punknews.org BUY LP:$9.00

HELLO SHITTY PEOPLE Hello Shitty People LP from 1-2-3-4-Go! - "Hello Shitty People left this world in 2001, leaving behind a 7” on This Here Records and an LP recorded but never released. I bought that 7” based on their band name alone almost 9 years ago. How could a band called “Hello Shitty People” not be good? Anyway I’ve honestly treasured that little record ever since. The true early Crimpshriney spirit of East Bay Pop punk had been picked up, kicked in the side and made weirder by these southern gents in a way I honestly don’t think has been done better by anyone claiming to do the same thing. It’s dark, it’s positive, it has bass lines that make Matt Freeman look like a rank amateur. I’m only half joking about that last one. ICE NINE Nobody's Son 7" from Prank - ICE NINE from Indianapolis, Indiana represented everything that was great about resurgent extreme hardcore of the 1990's- an experimental willingness to throw anything against the wall to make its point, incorporating the straightforward attack of 80's hardcore but pulverizing formula through burly low end down beat, intensely frenetic drumming, swirling guitar leads and the fragmentary Midwest stop and start twists. A uniquely original band like their contemporaries HIS HERO IS GONE, IN/HUMANITY, END OF THE CENTURY PARTY and with a sound way ahead of the same stop-melody-start-grind that became popular in the late nineties / early 00's by half a decade, Prank was originally slated to release an LP by ICE NINE in 1996, but the band broke up before it was recorded. Band members went on to play in TIME IN MALTA, BURN IT DOWN, MAHJAS, THE PROBLEMATICS, YOU WILL DIE and THE DREAM IS DEAD. A successful CD collection of ICE NINE's material from the Bovine, Ebullition, Rhetoric labels was released on Happy Couples Never Last in 2004 and in 2009, the band reunited with all original members to play Indianapolis's DUDEFEST. The response was so phenomenal ICE NINE wrote three new tracks that pick up right where they left off. BUY 7":$3.50

IN THE RED / ANCHOR Split 7" from Kiss Of Death - Mike Hale of Gunmoll fame is back again with more of his new outfit In the Red. This stuff goes to show that you can take the man out of Gainesville, but you can't take the Gainesville out of the man. Fans of the bands earlier work will be pleased to hear that Mike has lost none of his trademark growl on this stuff that falls somewhere between Leatherface and Hot Water Music. The Anchor brings along a track of gruff punk featuring bouncing bass-lines and hoarsely shouted vocals to their side of the split. I'd imagine that if Jersey's Best Dancers and Forever and Counting had a baby, it would look a lot like The Anchor. BUY 7":$3.75
INSECT WARFARE One-Sided LP from 625 Productions - One-sided; limited to 1,100! "Blistering, primal noise/grind done by the now defunct Gulf-Coast grind-unit. This album is the bee's balls. 14 great songs from some of the originators of Florida's underground punk scene. These are some of the dudes that started it all. Songs about... well... drinking, girls, and other stupid stuff old people shouldn't be singing about. It's absolutely wonderful. LEAD SKETCH UNION Our Sea CD from Poison City - "Our Sea" is the second brilliant album from Melbourne's LEAD SKETCH UNION. Known for their powerful style of punk inspired indie-rock, LEAD SKETCH UNION have successfully given "Our Sea" a distinct Australian (or perhaps more specifically Melbourne) feel, a sound and spirit also embraced by bands such as Mid Youth Crisis, Blueline Medic and A Death In The Family over the past decade. Produced by Samuel Johnson (A Death In The Family, The Gifthorse, Coue Method etc) "Our Sea" is by far LEAD SKETCH UNION's most intense and engaging material to date with an instant appeal to both fans of melodic punk-rock and Australian indie-rock. LEATHERFACE The Stormy Petrel LP/CD from No Idea - It's a tall order to describe Leatherface in a single paragraph, given the seemingly monumental footprint they've left on our little world of DIY punk rock. They encompass everything there is to love about independent music - inventing a trademarked and unmistakable playing style, influencing and inspiring dozens of bands who have since risen to the top of the heap, and always maintaining their humility and integrity. Renowned for Stubbs' weathered yet melodic rasp and soaring Gordon Smith guitars, Leatherface (commonly referred to as The Boat) champion the working stiff above all else, a testament to their Sunderland heritage and unflinching perseverance. Var says... This moment is quite literally twenty years in the making for me. What's the story here? Is it about a kid hearing a band for the first time in 1990? Is it about the impact felt by a vastly influential, yet humbly underground band? Let us just say that without LEATHERFACE there would be no HOT WATER MUSIC as we know them. THE TIM VERSION and TILTWHEEL would have a big problem. And there would be a lot less tattoos of boats. I have reached the conclusion that this is enough. I salute the Boat and their brilliant new album. **Different artwork than the overseas release! **2nd pressing in stock now on WHITE vinyl! BUY LP:$8.00

LEGENDARY SAN DIEGO CHARGERS / SUNNYSIDE Give 'em Enough Booze 7" from It's Alive - Earlier this year San Diego's Sunnyside did a west coast tour with Minnesota's Pretty Boy Thorson & The Fallin' Angels. Pretty Boy were touring as a three piece instead of their usual five. On top of that, Brad Landlord was filling in on drums. Apparently they didn't know how to play too many PBT songs, and The Legendary San Diego Chargers were born out of the mess! If you took the country out of PBT, the punk rock core you'd be left with is exactly what TLSDC sound like - hard driving, singalong songs with a bunch of gravel in the guts. Sunnyside are everything that was and is great about the San Diego punk sound of the glory days when pop punk was big shit down there. They know how to put together a catchy tune without any of the unnecessary glitzy garbage. The vocals are unpolished and harsh at best - a perfect match for the crunchy pop punk music it fronts. This is the first of near forty releases we've put out to date with a southern California band. We were waiting for something gnarly and got just that. BUY 7":$3.75

LIFETIME Lifetime LP from No Idea - Back in print on new colored vinyl! When word came that LIFETIME had reformed and was recording a new album, long time fans were ecstatic, as were tons of kids who had discovered the band AFTER they called it a day. This self-titled album came out in 2007. It had a super limited vinyl run that was gone before it appeared, wham bam! The idea of bringing the vinyl out on No Idea was hatched during a late night (okay, mid-afternoon) brainstorming session with a mysterious shadowy figure (okay, Dan Yemin), in which minds were twisted, arms were wrestled, and ultimately a wave of positivity flooded the room (okay, internet) and a vision of happiness came into bloom (okay, I had a big ole smile). We bottled and released this happiness into the offices of FBR and they were swept up in the euphoria too (okay, it was a few emails and they were cool with it). THE POINT IS: We are happy as pie to press this here LP for you and yours. Yeah! Whoo! BUY LP:$8.00

MANGES Rocket to Hollywood LP from It's Alive - The Manges bring a ton of energy and excellent musicianship with them every time they take a stage. Much like their heroes the Ramones they make every live show count. This live album plays more like a greatest hits or best of album - all hits without any misses. There are a couple of Ramones covers thrown in for good measure, of course. Rocket To Hollywood was recorded during the summer of 2007 at Safari Sams in Hollywood, CA while on their third tour of the states, this time with The Queers and The Methadones. It was a great show start to finish and this recording captured the fun-loving spirit of the night perfectly. A split release with Cheapskate Records (Conecticut, USA), Squinty Joe Records (UK) and Peabrain Records (Denmark). BUY LP:$8.50
MARKED MEN Fix My Brain LP/CD from Dirtnap - "Reissue of the 3rd Marked Men LP, which shows the band's pop sensibilities in full bloom. Not only are the Marked Men one of our very favorite bands of the 00's, but at this point we'd put 'em up there as one of Texas' great musical exports. Originally issued on Swami Records in 2006, this release put the Marked Men on many people's radar, and remains some folks' favorite to this day. Unfortunately, this thing has been unavailable for quite some time (especially the vinyl), so we thought we'de do you a favor and make this available once again. MEAN JEANS Are You Serious LP/CD from Dirtnap - THE MEAN JEANS are the kids that live down the street that blare the Ramones and the Angry Samoans late at night while they are playing "Edward 40s Hands". They have 3 things in their refrigerator: ketchup, beer and slime. THE MEAN JEANS were born when, at the ripe ages of 23 and 24, Jeans Wilder (skins, vox and smokes) and Billy Jeans (vox, riffs and spliffs) started playing their parent's DC-area basements in the winter of 2006. They grew another member, Howie Doodat (AKA Jean Jeans on the bass guitar), after moving to Portland, OR a year later. The 13 garage pop tunes of Are You Serious harkens back to the Lookout! Records of the early ‘90s, when pop-punk meant snotty low-brow 3 chord goodness and not glossy soundtracks to mall strolls. Like any good Cretin’s soundtrack, the "songs about partying" vs. "songs about girls" ratio leans fully toward PBR fueled pogo punk. Pitchfork already said THE MEAN JEANS "comes over like the Ramones mixed with a pinch of Joan Jett’s classic "Bad Reputation" and makes you want to slam dance with its guitar riffs and rollicking drumbeats." METHADONES Gary Glitter 7" from It's Alive - "Gary Glitter" - the first 7" release by The Methadones - picks up right where their "21st Century Power Pop Riot" album left off with an ode to the king of glam himself. On the opening track "Gary Glitter", The Methadones proudly display their love for the man's music with the song's stomping beat, slick riffs and gang vocal choruses, but in lyric show a distaste for the man himself by asking plain and simple, "What the fuck is wrong with Gary Glitter?" The flipside of the ep features the straight up pop punk gem "Over The Moon." Few people can write a song as catchy and perfect in its simplicity as front man Dan Schafer. This EP showcases The Methadones ability to not only write and record different styles of music, but to excel at it! BUY 7":$3.75

MONEYBROTHER Real Control LP from Sabot Productions - Includes download code! Stockholm Sweden's MONEYBROTHER is the solo project from Anders Wendin (originally of Monster fame) where he creates a soul-oriented blend of music styles like reggae, punk, rock'n'roll, pub rock, and even disco. Named after the two words that his baby brother could pronounce in English, MONEYBROTHER walked straight in to people's hearts with his gold selling, Grammy award-winning, striking 2003 debut album Blood Panic. Since then, Wendin has continued to reach new successful heights throughout Europe with the three releases that followed, not to mention a tomato soup brand that bears the MONEYBROTHER name. Now the artist has set his sights stateside with his first US full length release, Real Control, which includes four reworked and rerecorded tracks that are different from the Scandinavian release of the album.
With Real Control, MONEYBROTHER continues to utilize elements of 60s and 70s soul, like call and response vocals, sweeping string arrangements and dramatic lyrics, or what LA Weekly describes as “a Scandinavian stew of reggae, disco and roots- rocking thrash.” From the Bjorn Yttling (Peter Bjorn & John) produced opener, “Born Under A Bad Sign” to the soulful epic closer of “Showdown,” MONEYBROTHER paints with the same pallet as Stiff Records era pub rock bands, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Thin Lizzy, The Clash, Springsteen, and, of course, the northern soul greats that so deeply inspired him. NIGHT BIRDS Night Birds 7" from Dirtnap/Grave Mistake - Dirtnap is psyched to announce the release the 2nd 7" (following hot on the heels of their debut on Art Of The Underground) from New Jersey’s own Night Birds. Night Birds’ lineup will look familiar to fans of Dirtnap and awesome music in general, being composed of members of The Ergs, Psyched To Die, Hunchback, and many more. Musically, though, it’s probably not what you think, (it’s better) given the ex members list. Think speedy, catchy stuff that blurs the lines of punk and very early So Cal hardcore, with lots of surf/spy guitar thrown on top! Adolescents meets Dead Kennedys? 5 songs that go by quick, including what I think is the first instrumental on a Dirtnap release, although at this point it’s starting to get real hard to keep track of that shit. At the band’s request, there is no color vinyl on this release, but the first 500 will come in stamped sleeves. All copies come with sticker and download coupon. BUY 7":$3.50

NO FRIENDS No Friends LP/CD from No Idea Records - So THIS is what happens when you lock Tony (Municipal Waste) and Sam, Richard, and Alex (New Mexican Disaster Squad) in a cement mixer! Right on!! NO FRIENDS seethes and boils with the same unbridled fury that defined mid-80's hardcore while also drawing strongly on the melodic elements pioneered by Dag Nasty and Descendents. Their raging 80's hardcore tendencies are still fully intact and even more focused than on their previous effort. This 6 song EP (which rips by in right around 8 minutes) harkens back to 80's hardcore with an equal nod to each coast. Fans of Dag Nasty, Minor Threat and Bad Brains will be equally as pleased as those that lean more towards the western approach of the Adolescents, Black Flag and Descendents. NOBUNNY Love Visions LP/CD from 1-2-3-4-Go! - This is your chance to finally own the record that the guy who washes dishes at your job has been raving about. It's a Half Man, Half Rabbit, Half Nude, lo-fi, bubblegum garage rock soundtrack to sweethearts holding hands and kissing on a long walk home to a rock and roll orgy presided over by Little Richard, Motormouth Maybelle, Alan Freed and Joey Ramone. If you aren't instantly in love the second this hits your stereo, I'm afraid there isn't a fun bone in your body or a human heart in your chest. The original pressing of 1,000 was gone in a flash... these people know why.... "Continuing the grand tradition of Bay Area garage acts dressed in outrageous costumes (remember the Vulcaneers, the Trashwomen and the Mummies?)... Nobunny has released a rip- roaring good-times party album that comes on like the illegitimate offspring of the Archies, Joey Ramone, Hasil Adkins and Kim Fowley. A mixture of gritty, fuzzy garage rock and giddy, sticky bubblegum music..." -Magnanimous Collector/LA Times "...if you've never been hugged by a horny, drunken Muppet, you should seek him out." -Tucson Weekly "Never in my life did I think I'd fall for a gutter-brained, cartoon swipe artiste, but I have. Hard." -Mitch Cardwell Recommended if you like: The Ramones, the idea of GG Allin as a masked children's show host with the Jabbers as the house band, Jay Reatard (probably), frequenting Termbo from time to time... and a good time all the time. CD comes with a bonus Nobunny animated video! BUY LP:$9.00

NORTH LINCOLN Midwestern Blood LP/CD from No Idea - A few years ago, somebody coined the term "Midwestern beer- belly despair rock" to describe a handful of bands emanating from the greater Illinois/Michigan era, and the moniker couldn't be more aptly fitting for North Lincoln. Hailing from the reeling metropolis of Grand Rapids, deeply rooted in a community that rode the post-industrial wave of collapse and still struggles to keep its head above water, North Lincoln embodies a newer wave of working-class punk rock that ditches the anthemic trappings of Boston and New York and instead builds on the melancholy hymns of luminaries like JAWBREAKER and LEATHERFACE. They've added a healthy dash of HOT WATER MUSIC's hoarsely-shouted defiance to craft their own niche - desperate without implying resignation, helpless without feeling hopeless, downhearted but never defeated. It's furious mid-tempo rock heavily steeped in distorted minor chords, all tied together by lyrics that scrutinize the turbulent personal and social relationships found in their community and, more likely than not, mirrored in our own. LP is colored vinyl and includes a download code! BUY LP:$8.00

NOTHINGTON All In LP/CD from Left Off The Dial/BYO - Originally released on CD by BYO Records back in 2007, Left Off The Dial Records is pleased to finally present a limited pressing of Nothington's debut album, "All In" on colored vinyl. Numerous tours across the U.S., appearances at Warped Tour and The Fest, and a recent multi-month jaunt to Europe have spread their message of punk rock n' roll at it's finest to the masses. A far cry from the members' previous works in Tsunami Bomb and Enemy You, these tunes set sail right into the Hot Water Music meets Social Distortion sea of gruff melodic punk meets southern influence. NOUN Holy Hell CD from Don Giovanni - With the band Screaming Females, Marissa Paternoster has been known to shred until her fingers bleed. But with her 5-year-old low- profile solo project Noun, Marissa dedicates less time to shrieking and soloing, and more to intricate studio work and lower-key instrumentation. Holy Hell, the first official Noun release, incorporates keys, organs, and toned-down guitars and drums. The result is clearly different than Screaming Females: it’s mellower, more melodic, and whereas the Screaming Females’ songwriting process is a three-way discussion, Marissa writes all of the songs for Noun. Holy Hell features drum work by Angela Boylan (of Cheeky), Miranda Taylor (Hunchback, Black Wine, Full of Fancy), and Jarrett Dougherty (Screaming Females), plus bass lines by King Mike (Screaming Females). O PIONEERS / THE ANCHOR 7" from Kiss of Death - This is a re-release of the split 7” that was originally put out in 2008 on Triumph Of Life Records. Side A showcases O Pioneers in their original 2 piece lineup and the song starts out as a mid- tempo jaunt of punk rock energy before careening down the road to darker and more dissonant territory. This song features Eric Soloman at his most furious and accusatory as he shouts his frustration at people that won’t stand up for themselves. The Anchor brings a couple of tracks of gruff punk featuring bouncing bass-lines and hoarsely shouted vocals to their side of the split. I’d imagine that if Jersey’s Best Dancers and Forever and Counting had a baby, it would look a lot like these songs by The Anchor. BUY 7":$3.75

Okay, maybe that's taking it a little far, but on top of the classic singer-songwriter approach, there is at least one ripping electric guitar solo. There are definitely ten songs on this thing and they are certainly choice cuts. Paul has nowhere to hide and rocks out, acoustic style. Have you ever met the guy? He's fantastic. I mean that. PERSONAL AND THE PIZZAS Raw Pie LP from 1-2-3-4-Go! - FOR FANS OF: The Ramones, The Stooges, chains, leather, brass knuckles, cruising, bruising and petty larceny. 1-2-3-4 Go!'s first foray in to the New Jersey badlands. This isn't muscle bound fake tan guido shit. This is the real New Jersey. Pizza eating, beer drinking, chain wielding guido thug rock. Too fuckin' real to be fake! The LP features newly mastered (some actually mastered for the first time) versions of the songs from their sold out singles and comp tracks (on labels like Rob's House, Burger, Bubbledumb, Florida's Dying, Windian etc) plus studio versions of "$7.99 For Love" and "Pepperoni Eyes". As a band, the Pizzas don't add up right. Probably due to the fact none of them graduated high school. They bend and meld uber familiar elements of bands like The Ramones and The Stooges in ways that most other bands fail miserably at. The shit doesn't make sense. After a few chains across the face I've learned to stop questioning it. (**includes download code!) BUY LP:$9.00

PRETTY BOY THORSON AND THE SLOW DEATH / THE STRAIT A'S 7" from Kiss of Death - It’s Minneapolis meets Minneapolis on this 6 song split 7” full of catchy pop punk. If you like “Ohhhs,” “Ahhhs,” and dueling male/female vocals then the 4 tracks of fast-paced Ramones style pop punk that THE STRAIT A’S bring to this split are going to be right up your alley. Complete with songs about brainless friends and revenge on an ex, this stuff is just pissed enough to avoid sounding too sugary. PRETTY BOY THORSON & THE SLOW DEATH brings a similar Lookout Records styled approach to their first of their tracks. It’s just as catchy but with a more deliberate pace and a gruffer vocal approach. RINGERS Hurry Up & Wait LP from 1-2-3-4-Go! - Their third album. 7 songs clocking in at just under 20 minutes. It's like riding a trainwreck with a smile on your face, a drink in your hand and your heart on your sleeve. You're scared to death but still trying to have a good time. I honestly can't think of a better metaphor for the lyrical content of this album. It confronts the worst parts of life with out reveling in them and accepts the reality that it's not all bad times without being sappy and overly positive. Musically you're getting gritty pop punk with elements of everyone from The Clash, The Replacements, Rancid, and oft compared to contemporaries like Bent Outta Shape and Dillinger Four...although I honestly don't hear the last two, but I accept that other people do. Every album results in more complex song writing and delivery, and if they can keep the train on the tracks I think they'll be one of those bands that everyone else gets compared to in a few years. Real talk. Recorded by Will Killingsworth (Orchid/Ampere/Dead Air Studios). First press limited to 800 copies with hand stamped inner labels; includes download code! BUY LP:$8.00

RIVERDALES Tarantula LP/CD from Recess Records - The Riverdales follow up last year's "Invasion USA" with "Tarantula," 30 minutes of their heaviest yet catchiest songs to date. Initially meant to be part of "Invasion USA," these tunes stood out on their own enough to be their own beast. In these parts, RIverdales-Storm The Streets, is considered a cultish, godlike slab. Tarantula carries on with the great Foster/Schafer songwriting team, as well as being complimented with the Justin Perkins production. "12 to the Moon" can be considered a classic weeks before release date. And if you wanna talk up the Ramones references, well then we can clock in with this era's "Baby Sitter/Bonzo/Something to Believe In" via "Soultaker". SENDERS Recovery 7" from Kiss of Death - The second outing for Gainesville's SENDERS, a classic 45rpm single of two new songs tracked in March 2010. Having built their sound by aping bands like HUM and BRAID, they now deliver new old ideas ripped straight from the FRODUS and APPLESEED CAST playbooks. Octaves and twinkly guitars noodle about between lush dirges and rolling cascades. Friends have also suggested some Gish-era SMASHING PUMPKINS influence, while legendary music critic Chad Darby put down the pipe long enough to note the band's "impressive use of uniquely driving guitars." SENDERS may or may not be trying to pioneer the "stoner-emo" genre, but they definitely did just blow up their van. RIP The Green Dragon. Maximum Rock-n-Roll said this record is "pretty rocking." SENDERS / WAVELETS Split 7" from CT's Never Going to Put Out a Record Again Records - Wavelets sling noodley guitar work faster than a coked-out Leo's employee, delivering a sound that's somewhere between a double-timed American Football and a more structured, somber Cap'n Jazz, with hints of Ghosts and Vodka, Make Believe, or Minus The Bear and nods to contemporaries like Snowing, Algernon Cadwallader, and Grown Ups. On the B-side, Senders delve into more aggressive and distorted territories while remaining firmly melodic, for a finished product that has been compared by roommates and weed buddies to Braid, I Hate Myself, Frodus, The Promise Ring, and that first Appleseed Cast record. SHANGHAI RIVER Binary Code Will Enslave All of Humankind LP from ADD Records/Let's Pretend - Wisdom has been passed over centuries from generation to generation using different devices. The ancient Sumerians wrote on papayas. The Romans used Claymation. Steve Guttenberg invented the first moveable type bible. Later that month, punk rockers made zines, where one sticks X-acto blades and rubber cement into a photocopier, then swears at it. Enter sage punk rocker Ben Snakepit: zinester, manager of the second largest video store in America, and now, for the very first time, lead singer/guitarist of his own band: Shanghai River. Roll out this tanning bed of knowledge, take off your clothes, and bask in Ben's good, old-fashioned stick-pin tattoo-style advice to live by: "If you don't make your own gasoline, that's not punk"; "Stop drinking when blood comes out of your butt"; and "No body wants to fuck you when you get too fat." The Socrates of the now-punks? Only time-and the beard growth-will tell. BUY LP:$8.40
SHANNON AND THE CLAMS I Wanna Go Home LP/CD from 1-2-3-4-Go! - The sound of a prom band in 1964 getting dosed with acid and having the sweetest lovelorn freak out. Imagine a brawling Etta James, backed up by the 13th Floor Elevators singing Shangri La's tunes. It doesn't sound exactly like that, but imagine it. If I ever get a time machine that's the first thing I'm going to try to get to happen. Shannon has a voice that can go from a sweet girl group croon to a bluesy ballsy growl before you realize you're headed for the floor. This is their debut full length following hot on the heels of the "Hunk Hunt" 7" on Weird Hug Records. Recorded by Matthew Melton of the Bare Wires/Snakeflower 2. On tour in the US through November! SHELLSHAG Rumors in Disguise LP/CD from Don Giovanni - Epic followup to Destroy Me I'm Yours. The band explains: “Most of the songs on the record are about hope and despair, love and survival, death and fear.” From the grin-laced stubborn pride in Shellʼs vocals on “Resillient Bastard” to Jen Shagʼs tom- heavy heartbeat rhythms on crunchy duet “Means That Much”, every inch put to tape is as real as it gets. SLACKERS, THE Lost and Found LP from Paper + Plastick - Lost and Found is a compilation of music that The Slackers made from 1998 through to 2007. When the band records, there are typically some tracks that don't make it onto the albums. Sometimes a track just needed some editing, and we didn't have time. A bunch of these tracks had some technical mistakes that had to wait until we had the digital technology to fix them. For whatever reason, many of these songs were forgotten or put aside. That is, until now... The Slackers are a classic American band that is equal parts grit and grace. Their slow rise against the odds is a story in perseverance and a belief in their musical vision, what Vic likes to call, "Jamaican Rock N Roll." While they have been influenced, and even personally taught by Jamaican ska/reggae originators, like the Skatalites and the Upsetters (Original backing band for the Wailers), the band sees its music as an extension of the traditions of the United States. This band is equally appreciative of old blues, country, 60s soul, rock, and Rnb as it is of reggae, rocksteady, dub, and Ska. It is as if the Rolling Stones or the Yardbirds had grown up on Bob Marley as well as Muddy Waters. Smashing the stereotypes of "ska" as happy, uptempo, and shallow music, the Slackers play with an aggressive edge and their songs veer in themes from the personal to the political. They can out jam any hippie band and outwrite most singer songwriters. From their 1996 release, Better Late Than Never through to 2010 with The Great Rocksteady Swindle, they have established themselves as America's premiere interpreters and innovators of Jamaican music and a pretty good rock band to boot. And not that "everything is so great, let's all go ride bikes and hug" sort of gravely pop punk. But the kind that's bummed out about stuff. The good kind. Not that riding bikes and hugging isn't great. Snuggle is literally the best pop punk band from Seattle probably ever. I can't think of another from the area, past or present, that could rival them. They've been hindered for the last few years by the hectic tour schedules of their other bands but watch out for them on their first full US tour in the Fall of 2009! These two songs were originally recorded for their full length but won't appear on the LP to be released in September. No High 5's are from Denver and aren't afraid to call out all this unnecessary high fiving that's been going on lately! Full color cover art by Henderson who is an artistic genious, former member of Shorebirds and moved to one of the Carolinas for some god awful reason!!! First press limited to 500 copies. SONS OF ISHMAEL Hayseed Hardcore 12" from Schizophrenic - SONS OF ISHMAEL’s Hayseed Hardcore 7” was immortalized in Pushead’s top 100 hardcore releases of the 80’s. Tucked away at #76 safely wedged between MASS APPEAL and RATTUS, SONS OF ISHMAEL were often compared to early D.R.I. with a rabid mix of early LARM and WRETCHED. Yes, that is a lot of power and speed thrown onto a 7” platter. Schizophrenic Records is proud to release the Hayseed Hardcore 12” which includes the full 7” as well as several compilation recordings by the original Meaford, Ontario lineup. 25 years later this record remains full of energy, drive and small town teenage angst. The release includes a band biography and insert containing original artwork and lyrics. Limited to 800 copies. BUY 12":$10.50
SPANISH GAMBLE It's All Coming Down LP+CD from Paper + Plastick - For fans of: American Steel, Banner Pilot, Street Dogs, Smoke or Fire We’ve all been at the end of our ropes before, that precarious tipping point where you’re not sure whether everything’s going to work itself out, or whether you’re going to end up as a deranged 30-something basement screamer chewing on the business-end of a broken bottle. “It’s All Coming Down” zeroes in on these feelings, a Richter-scale reading on imminent mental collapse. As Spanish Gamble have waged their own wars across the underground over the past few years, they’ve clawed their way up the totem pole from the position of determined underdog to scrappy welterweights. They’ve built a healthy reputation for riling house shows into reckless abandon and will surely be wide-awake, blacked-out, and giving any willing soul a homemade tattoo in your living room long after you’ve passed out. In turn, the music speaks for itself - driving and melodic, rife with compelling leads and behemoth choruses. Each song stands as an anthem unto itself, whether defiant or rallying, hopeful or hopeless. BUY LP+CD:$10.00

SPITS, THE The Spits IV (aka "School's Out") LP/CD from In The Red/Recess Records - “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” —Raoul Duke "A quote that proves to be eerily prescient with the long awaited return of professional weirdos, The SPITS. Fresh from the studio with their fourth self-titled LP on Recess/Thriftstore Records, The SPITS show no sign of slowing down with their latest effort, mixing equal parts Devo and Misfits into an aurally addictive, synth-inflected stew. Describing the music they play as “Punk for the People” these prophets of the proletariat have a message for the masses: The SPITS are the soundtrack to the Apocalypse. The SPITS have never shied away from esoteric subject matter musically. Previous records have contained themes of escaped Nazi war criminals, nuclear winters, commie spies, and terrorist attacks, coupled with back alley booze-fests, brain- bruising bong rips, skateboards, and fisticuffs. With songs about constable evasion (“Police”), Huxley-esque visions of metropolitan horror (“Eyesore City”), and alien abduction (“Alienize”), SPITS #4 should prove to be just as desperately disparate and sonically sordid as previous salvos. In short: Unlike a lot of the bands in the staid punk scene, The SPITS are fun. For the uninitiated, The SPITS are a punk rock band hailing from, well, all over the place, by way of Michigan, and then Seattle. The brothers Wood, Sean and Erin, play guitar and bass respectively, with Lance Phelps on drums and Ernie Quintero banging on the ever present keyboards. While the drums and synth have seen live line-up changes in the past, a constant with the band has been the studio collaboration between the two brothers, and Phelps. From the fuzzed out, over-driven, guitar and vox intro of “Tonight”, and the percussive, submachine gun attack of “Police”, to the cool bottom heaviness of “Life of Crime”, and the lo-fi genius outro of “Flags”, The SPITS fourth offering is the strongest to date; showcasing a band that is only beginning to approach the zenith of its power, as the world dips entropically past its own, toward obliteration. Indeed. Buy the record, take the ride. "-Shawn Durant BUY LP:$12.50

STONED AT HEART Party Tracks Vol. 1 LP from Recess Records - **Includes download code for entire album plus the demo versions! **1st pressing is 300 copies on RED vinyl! **Stoned At Heart is Todd, Jimmy, Chachi (Toys That Kill & Underground Railroad To Candyland) and Jessica (Baby J, Can Of Beans)! Stoned At Heart: We got together less than a year ago. I forgot why? I guess outta mutual love for each other's songs, me and Baby J. Chachi and Jimmy make those songs sound waaay better than they were intended. We made plans to record (demo or whatever) and it fell right in the midst of us recording The Underground Railroad to Candyland in our own Clown Sound Studio (in my garage). So we decided "just one weekend and then back to URTC". We were so happy with the SAH sessions that we scrapped the current URTC session only to re-do it the right way! THAT'S INCREDIBLE That's Incredible 7" from It's Alive - That's Incredible are a new four-piece band from San Pedro, California made up of current and former members of Toys That Kill, The Soviettes, Killer Dreamer and Dick Army. Their debut release bears influence of their other bands' signature styles, but it has an awesome new sound and style all its own coming from the chemistry created by the combining of them all into one. Three lead vocalists each with a distinct, varying style will keep you guessing what's next from song to song. They play straight forward, poppy and thrashy punk jams. THE RIOT BEFORE Rebellion LP from Paper + Plastick - **NEW PRESSING IN STOCK: TRANSLUCENT ORANGE or BLUE & ORANGE SWIRL! Evolution is a natural process that can neither be forced nor contrived, but can be accellerated by constant pressure and motion. Since their inception a few short years ago, The Riot Before have kept their burners on high, maintaining a perpetual drive that propelled them almost overnight from obscurity to legendary road warrior status. From their humble, guileless beginnings, they’ve rapidly matured into an experienced and irrefutable force. After the virulent success of 2008’s Fists Buried in Pockets, they immediately set to work forging a new record. With the help of Paper + Plastick’s seemingly infinite underworld connections, the planets aligned during a full moon and they found themselves locked away in the ivory tower known as The Magpie Cage alongside fabled production wizard J Robbins (Jawbreaker, Against Me!, The Promise Ring). Together, they cast and fired their finest work to date, a sprawling composite that fuses the band’s driving, melodic anthems with Robbins’ dissonant, angular production. The resulting opus stands as a genre-defying testament to musical progression, as each song draws clear and differing influences while maintaining a cohesive texture throughout the course of the record. “Richmond, Virginia’s the Riot Before have many winning attributes, but perhaps their strongest one lies in their unflinching ability to convey every sound they make straight from the heart. With a slightly folkish edge occassionally sneaking in, the band’s brand of punk is both catchy and raw, sounding like the Gaslight Anthem and Small Brown Bike jamming in a tiny room. Rebellion’s melodies are powerfully moving, and whether the band are throwing everything they have at you (as with the gorgeous harmonies of “Backstage Room”) or showing restraint to help expose the grace and beauty beneath the surface (“What I’ve Missed”), they nail you every time. With all this bolstered by thought-provoking lyrics and their sheer relentless exuberance, the Riot Before really have come up with something special.” - Alternative Press BUY LP:$9.00

TUBERS / BRAINWORMS 7" from Bakery Outlet / Rorschach / Dead Tank - Back in print!! "Saint Augustine, Florida in the summertime can be a magical place. A weekend spent there can create twenty years good memories hanging out in the hot Floridian sun with your friends. One moment you're hanging out at your friend's lake house drinking beers doing relay races and in a snapshot, you're playing volleyball cockfighting style on a tarp wet, slippery from dish detergent. For the working man, the summer season is over. Somewhere deep within the northern woods, a trail crew is wrapping up its season with a final all night from dusk 'til dawn rager. Multiple handles of Jack are consumed; PBR freely flow out of cans into mouths, hair, and the ground. People exploit tiki-torches to spit fire igniting a gasoline-soaked chair nestled in the middle of a yet to be started bonfire. Young men and women with shaved mohawks are burning things they don't need anymore like clothing, equipment, and/or facial hair. This is one of those parties where drunk people with an acute attraction for wrestling and making a lot of noise get sweaty with pick axes. Young people are getting weird in the woods and not thinking about tomorrow. As the summer fades to fall, Brainworms sets up to be the houseband. The underground railroad from St. Augustine to Richmond, VA finally comes to listeners in the form of Tuber's split with the almighty Brainworms. Having years of friendship and numerous 12 hour drives built up over time, it only seems natural to have these two bands come together to commemorate friendship and make peace with alligators, whatever that means." --Jeff Beyers BUY 7":$3.75

VARSITY WEIRDOS Can't Go Home LP/2xCD from It's Alive - The Varsity Weirdos are back with their fourth release and first full-length album for It’s Alive Records. When everything has been done, go back to the start and do it again. Do it right. Do it better than it’s been done before. When it comes to classic pop punk it all starts and ends with the Ramones. The Varsity Weirdos are one of the few bands hanging from the Ramones family tree that somehow manage to take what’s been done, but make it sound all their own - a rare feat in the post Screeching Weasel and Queers world. They don’t do it by adding unnecessary extras for the sake of it. They don’t do it by merging the tried and true with some new and improved garbage. They simply do it by playing true to what they love. Sincerity goes a long way in a genre filled mostly with songs about bubblegum and the junior prom. You either hate the genre or you love it - there’s very little room for fence-sitting. Can’t Go Home might not make converts out of any of the haters, but it’s sure to serve as a strong reminder to all the lovers why they still give a shit about classic pop punk. BUY LP:$8.50

VRGNS (a.k.a VIRGINS) Manimal LP from Kiss of Death - This Orlando, FL based band's second full-length for Kiss of Death features bigger, louder production (while still retaining its charming "rough-around-the-edges" quality), more dynamic song writing and a vicious cynical voice. The record ebbs and flows with a distinct 70's and 80's punk sound. Sometimes bouncy, sometimes raging and always catchy, "Manimals" will lull you into a sugary submission before kicking your teeth into the back of your throat. While influenced by the likes of the Damned, Adolescents, and more old school favorites, this isn't a throwback record by any means. It's a progressive take on modern punk rock song writing that gives a curt nod of respect to the ones that paved the way, while still branching out into dangerous territory. "Manimals" is a record that pulls no punches lyrically and keeps the listener on their toes musically. BUY LP:$8.00

WORLD BURNS TO DEATH / SLANG 7" from Prank - Marking the 2010 summer U.S. tour of Austin, Texas’s WORLD BURNS TO DEATH and Sapporo, Japan’s veteran hardcore band SLANG, this EP combines two guitar driven blasts of hardcore fury. SLANG have existed for over twenty years, evolving between classic Japanese fast hardcore and downbeat NYHC influences. Their track “ Our Grey Earth” rampages on SLANG’s own path, incorporating the evolution of influences into a fast assault of hardcore that winds to a devastating guitar driven breakdown. WORLD BURNS TO DEATH similarly continue to evolve from caustic bursts of corrosive thrashing to a tempered attack stitched by a melodic guitar riff and glued solid with torrential drum bashing, volatile guitar blasts and harsh vocals, ensuring their track “ Babylon Endures” continues their trademark sheer intensity.
