LITTLE CUTS "Plastic Disaster" from Dirtnap
BUY 7" • $4.25
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

Dave Hernandez of legendary garage punk band Scared of Chaka, formed Little Cuts in Seattle during a break from touring duties with indie rockers The Shins in '08. His years with The Shins (a band of whom he'd been friends with the leader of, James Mercer, since Scared of Chaka was touring the world in the mid 90s) left him anxious for a return to the louder and more chaotic leanings of his earlier bands. Andrew Church (Ballard master rock musician, genius go-to guy, fixer, bartender extraordinaire, all around gentleman, and Godfather to Hernandez's firstborn) was the obvious choice for wingman in the group. Having previously played and recorded with Hernandez in power rock outfit Broadcast Oblivion (featuring murder city devils/big business/melvins drummer Coady Willis) he filled bass duties handily when not working with his other great band The Cops. Curtis James of Old Haunts had met Hernandez mid tour in the early 90s when he'd drummed for Olympia band Excuse 17, and it was total random coincidence that had him tattooing at a shop next door to Hazelwood, Church's bar in Seattle. He completed the three piece, and they set about recording a handful of CDRs that were passed around town, and played a handful of shows as well as releasing a single for Bag of Hammers. Inevitably, the pull of other bands, family, and a bad case o' the "grumps" prevented this lineup from touring extensively. This release holds their last recorded work before Curtis James returned to Olympia and left the band. Lars Finberg of The Intelligence recorded this in the fall of 2010 and a year later its finally seeing release thanks to Ken at Dirtnap Records. The current lineup includes David Weeks from The Cops on drums.

MEAN JEANS "Are You Serious" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $10.00
BUY CD • $8.00
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

THE MEAN JEANS are the kids that live down the street that blare the Ramones and the Angry Samoans late at night while they are playing "Edward 40s Hands". They have 3 things in their refrigerator: ketchup, beer and slime. THE MEAN JEANS were born when, at the ripe ages of 23 and 24, Jeans Wilder (skins, vox and smokes) and Billy Jeans (vox, riffs and spliffs) started playing their parent's DC-area basements in the winter of 2006. They grew another member, Howie Doodat (AKA Jean Jeans on the bass guitar), after moving to Portland, OR a year later. The 13 garage pop tunes of Are You Serious harkens back to the Lookout! Records of the early ‘90s, when pop-punk meant snotty low-brow 3 chord goodness and not glossy soundtracks to mall strolls. Like any good Cretin’s soundtrack, the "songs about partying" vs. "songs about girls" ratio leans fully toward PBR fueled pogo punk. Pitchfork already said THE MEAN JEANS "comes over like the Ramones mixed with a pinch of Joan Jett’s classic "Bad Reputation" and makes you want to slam dance with its guitar riffs and rollicking drumbeats."

Check out the Mean Jeans video on Spin.com!

MEAN JEANS "On Mars" from Dirtnap Records
BUY LP • $10.00
BUY CD • $8.00

Portland's premier party punks The Mean Jeans return with their long-awaited follow up to 2009's Are You Serious! This is a different album, though, more mid-tempo catchier, and poppier (but less "pop punk" if you know what we mean) than their debut. In addition to the standard 3 piece instrumentation, Mean Jeans On Mars also features, at various times, acoustic guitar (!), keyboards (!), drum machines (!), empty Jaeger bottles (!) and boxes of macaroni (!) played as extra percussion. Oh and it also features the debut of new member Jr. Jeans on bass! (Howie Doodat is busy tearing up Portland in the Suicide Notes!) This is a fantastic, exhilarating summertime pop album, so down a couple of jaegy bombs and get ready to moonwalk into the unknown with the Mean Jeans!

MIND SPIDERS "Meltdown" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $10.00
BUY CD • $8.00

2nd album from Mark Ryan's (Marked Men, High Tension Wires)Mind Spiders, and it's a Meltdown, alright. This is a very different beast from the s/t Mind Spiders LP released just 13 months ago. The most obvious difference is that while the s/t LP was recorded piecemeal, with Mark more-or-less playing all the instruments, Meltdown is the first Mind Spiders recordings to feature the full live band. And what a band it is: members of The Bad Sports, High Tension Wires, Marked Men, Uptown Bums, etc etc. The fact that there are 2 drummers (Mike from the Marked Men AND Greg from The High Tension Wires both play drums at the same time)gives alot of these songs a rhythmic complexity that sets the songs apart from a lot of other "garagey" type bands. Loosely organized like the first LP, with the more straightforward, rocking stuff on side A and the weird curveball stuff on side B, Meltdown, while remarkably cohesive, blends a lot of different elements: Great sounding guitar tones. Happy, warm organ. Mean, buzzing synth. 60's pop sensibilities. Snotty garage rockers. Dark, brooding postpunk. Weirdo sci-fi soundtrack stuff. Nods to Krautrock. Oh, and did we mention there are 2 drummers? Meltdown is definitely one of the high points in the Dirtnap catalog, and given our history with Mark Ryan, that is saying alot. By our count, this is the 11th record we've released with him on it (1 Mind Spiders 7" and 2 LPs, 3 High Tension Wires LPs, 4 Marked Men LPs and 1 7"), I guess you could say we are a fan.

MIND SPIDERS "The Mind Spiders" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $10.00

Solo pop explorations from Mark Ryan of the Marked Men! (yes, we used the same tag-line for the 7", but it was too appropriate not to recycle!) Around the time Denton, TX legends Marked Men were entering into their current state of semi- hibernation, co- singer/songwriter/ guitarist Mark Ryan decided he wanted to go in a slightly different direction for his next project, with recordings handled mostly by himself, and a fluid lineup of musicians to back him live. After an extremely well received 7" on Dirtnap (released before the live version of the band had played a single show), Mind Spiders follow it up with a full length that doesn't begin to disappoint. Intelligent, highly crafted songwriting with lots of twists and turns, meticulously recorded at home with Mark himself playing most of the instruments. Pop with brains and substance, catchy stuff that isn't afraid to spread out a bit and reflect a wide range of influences and interests. A little 60's pop here, a little lo-fi there, a little weirdo-in-his- bedroom-with-a-4-track in other places. And if the opening song, Go!, sounds a bit like the Marked Men, that's because that band recorded a version of it for their last LP, which was left off at the last minute. The live version of Mind Spiders is a different beast entirely. It's a regular Denton/Ft. Worth all star band, with members of Bad Sports, High Tension Wires, Uptown Bums, Marked Men and a lot more, made unique in the fact that there are TWO drummers (Greg Rutherford of Bad Sports/High Tension Wires and Mike Throneberry of the Marked Men), lending a rather explosive element to the proceedings. January 2011's release of The Mind Spiders debut LP marks the beginning of yet another year of fruitful collaboration between Dirtnap Records and the seemingly never ending stream of bands from the great state (republic?) of Texas. February will see the release of the 3rd LP from longtime Marked Men/Reds/Riverboat Gamblers side project The High Tension Wires. March will see the Dirtnap debut from Denton/Austin's The Bad Sports, 2/3rds of whom also play in both The High Tension Wires and the live version of The Mind Spiders. Houston's Something Fierce just wrapped up recording a monster of a 3rd LP, which we'll be releasing in April. All these bands and more will be playing Dirtnap Records' SXSW Showcase in March, come check it out!

NIGHT BIRDS "Night Birds" from Dirtnap/Grave Mistake
BUY 7" • $3.75

Back in stock! Dirtnap is psyched to announce the release the 2nd 7" (following hot on the heels of their debut on Art Of The Underground) from New Jersey’s own Night Birds. Night Birds’ lineup will look familiar to fans of Dirtnap and awesome music in general, being composed of members of The Ergs, Psyched To Die, Hunchback, and many more. Musically, though, it’s probably not what you think, (it’s better) given the ex members list. Think speedy, catchy stuff that blurs the lines of punk and very early So Cal hardcore, with lots of surf/spy guitar thrown on top! Adolescents meets Dead Kennedys? 5 songs that go by quick, including what I think is the first instrumental on a Dirtnap release, although at this point it’s starting to get real hard to keep track of that shit. At the band’s request, there is no color vinyl on this release, but the first 500 will come in stamped sleeves. All copies come with sticker and download coupon.

SONIC AVENUES "Television Youth" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $10.00
BUY CD • $8.00

SONIC AVENUES are just four Montreal kids who started riffing punk tunes in 2006, but since getting swept up in the booming punk epicentre of neighbouring Ottawa, they've been catapulted into the ranks of the best pop-punk acts in Canada! After releasing a few singles, SA dropped a bomb in late 2009 with their debut LP on Ottawa's infamous Going Gaga Records. Within a few short months, the record had sold-out twice, including a European repress by Germany's fine Taken By Surprise and Sabotage Records. Two years later, after obliterating eardrums from stages across North America and Europe, they returned home to record a crushing follow-up, TELEVISION YOUTH, for Portland-based label DIRTNAP RECORDS. Featuring more of the over-driven guitars, infectious harmonized melodies and blazing 2-3 minute songs that powered their debut, SA have nonetheless pushed the limits into new territories with this latest offering. In short, Television Youth is punkier, poppier, louder and dirtier than anything they've done before. Armed with this devastating new arsenal, as well as ambitious touring plans spanning the (un)civilized world, SONIC AVENUES are sure to keep fists in the air and beers a-flyin' for years to come.

WHITE WIRES "WWII" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $10.00

"Ottawa, Ontario is exploding with good bands, easily one of our favorite musical hotbeds in North America at the moment, and we here at Dirtnap knew we had to get in on the action, before the action got in on us. (whatever the hell THAT means) What better way to start than with THE WHITE WIRES WWII, a sun- soaked Garage-Pop gem that will satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. Simple, spare, haunting, instantly memorable pop songs that’ll leave you glad to be alive. When White Wires released their debut LP on singer/guitarist Ian Manhire’s Going Gaga (VERY quickly becoming one of our favorite record labels on the planet) Records in 2009, EVERYONE we played it for here in Portland completely flipped out, and we were quickly pestering the band to let us reissue it. Alas, Douchemaster Records beat us to the punch on THAT one, but here we’ve been given a 2nd crack at ‘em. Ian from White Wires refers to WWII as the band’s “Dirtnap” album, in that it’s a little more (for lack of a better term) “punk” and a little less (for lack of a better term) “garage” than their debut. The tones are a little brighter, the tempos a little faster, the songs a little (if this is possible) catchier than WWI." - Ken/Dirtnap

AIRFIX KITS "Playing Both Sides" from Dirtnap
BUY 7" • $3.50

Tense, brittle, working class postpunk from San Francisco. Features 2/3rds ex-members of Giant Haystacks. We here at Dirtnap were fans of that band, but we think Airfix Kits are better, hookier, and more direct. The band has described their sound as "Gang Of Four getting rat-arsed on cider and covering the entire Strength Through Oi! comp". That sounds good, let's roll with it.

AUTISTIC YOUTH "Idle Minds" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $9.25

Long awaited 2nd album from hardworking PDX youngsters, following up their classic "Landmine Beach" LP, as well as singles on Black Water, Rock Bottom, Taken By Surprise, and more. Driving, melodic punk/hardcore (but NOT "melodic hardcore" if ya get the distinction) with dark, swirling undercurrents. Catcy but not at all vapid. Sounding like a cross between Portland, Southern California, and Copenhagen, you could compare this to bands like Observers/Red Dons, No Hope For The Kids, Articles Of Faith, Reagan Youth, The Wipers, Adolecscents, etc etc. We've wanted to do something with these guys forever, and while the recording process took longer than normal, but we think it was well worth the wait. Co-release with Dirtnap/Black Water in the US and Taken By Surprise/Sabotage in Europe.

BAD SPORTS "Kings Of The Weekend" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $10.00
BUY CD • $9.00

Bad Sports were formed in 2007 in Denton, Texas by Orville Neeley, Daniel Fried and Gregory Rutherford, who came from a variety of different bands in the North Texas area. Their debut self titled full length was released in late 2009 on Douchemaster Records following a string of singles, and showed the band's songwriting mature into a more refined pop territory without losing their edge. The group's energetic live shows (inclduing a show-stopping performance at Dirtnap Records' 2011 SXSW Showcase) have won over audiences across the US, as well as helped gain them notoriety as one of the best live acts in the nation. Prolific to a fault, Bad Sports members currently also play in the High Tension Wires, OBN IIIs, the live incarnation of Mind Spiders, Wiccans, Video, and many more. Kings Of The Weekend, the band's debut for Dirtnap Records, picks up right where the last one left off, showing a penchant for highly developed pop songwriting skills mixed with the speedy garage punk/pop sound of their first LP. A great recording by Mark Ryan of The Mind Spiders/Marked Men fame really compliments the band's sound, making this one of our absolute faves of 2011, as well as the 4th LP in a row Dirtnap has released by Texas bands. We should really just move there...........

Alicja from Lost Sounds, Mouserocket, River City Tanlines, Fitts, Clears, Nervous Patterns, etc in her first post-Lost Sounds release! Black Sunday melds the paranoid, futuristic keyboard buzz of Lost Sounds with the haunting pop sensibilities of Mouserocket. Intense art-rock workouts meet sprawling, lush soundscapes. Agressive noise rock side-by-side with undeniable pop hooks. Comparisons to other bands (even her other projects) are utterly useless, though. In the end, this sounds like no-one but Alicja.

BUSY SIGNALS "Busy Signals" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $8.50
BUY CD • $8.00

Touching on several overlooked styles that have only recently become appreciated, the Busy Signals are an unstoppable explosion of so many great nuances that it will literally make your head spin. With their instantly gratifying buzzing sound firmly rooted in original formula high-energy pop without a side of the feyness usually along for the ride, they have developed an incredible knack for weaving in bass lines and backup vocals that rekindle the magic created by first-wave Belgian punk bands right alongside the refreshing twists of primordial glam. This all comes together to concoct a blend of "real deal" punk so enthralling you'll be surprised at how bleak your outlook on life was before you were exposed to it, and you'll quickly realize how passable everything else seems to sound that came before it.

Lots of bands dream of becoming a great punk band, a great pop band, or a great hardcore band. But the truly great bands, the ones that come along and alter the course of music, can never be pigeonholed into just one genre. You don't want to listen to the same type of music all the time, so why would a band wnt to drone through songs that all sound the same? The Ergs have the talent to play outside the lines. The New Jersey- based trio draws influences from the strongest sections of the SST catalog, pop punk in the vein of both Ramones and Descendents, country, and even jazz. When listening to The Ergs, prepare to have your definition of pop punk challenged. As a band, everything goes; As listeners, everyone wins.

Dirtnap Records is proud to bring you the 2nd album from Portland dark-punk kings! Past and present members of Portland hardcore mainstays such as Remains Of The Day, Hellshock, Warcry, Lebenden Toten, etc pull a 180 and dish out ten tracks of icy, ominous postpunk. Since their last release, The Estranged have dialed back the explicit aggression of their early singles a bit, and dialed up the textured, atmospheric, layered sounds of prime 80s deathrock/postpunk. A little less US influence, a little more UK.........A little less Wipers, a little more Cure/Chameleons UK/Joy Division, etc. .......... The Subliminal Man was painstakingly, impeccably recorded at Type Foundry Studios in Portland and features 8 new ones, a re- recording of "Statue In A Room" (originally released as a split 7" with Autistic Youth) and a rather stunning cover of The Flys' 1978 classic "Love And A Molotov Cocktail". You need this. All LPs come with download coupon. "Think Bauhaus or Sisters Of Mercy, but by dyed-in-the-wool punks shorn of spookiness and frilly-edged shirts. GOODNIGHT LOVING have become a Milwaukee institution, but unlike "Laverne and Shirley" or Pabst Blue Ribbon, they're still here adding to their legend. The Goodnight Loving Supper Club is another milestone in that legend, expanding on their already classic sound of country-and folk-laced rock ‘n roll by forging head-long into psychedelia, surf, spaghetti western, and anything else exotic enough to send your neurons into an electrified dance of pop induced pleasure. With this their new album, GOODNIGHT LOVING follow in the footsteps of The Great American Rock & Roll Bands (ie. CCR, The Hawks, Crazy Horse, Big Star, The Replacements et al), reimagining the conventions of our native rock n' roll in a way that's both fresh and timeless. The Goodnight Loving Supper Club is the band’s first recording as a four piece, yet the sonic landscape they paint is more lush and nuanced than ever. Like all great bands around for more than an album or two, they're maturing and pioneering, effortlessly weaving in ideas from unlikely sources to color their songs in ways that seem strange at first, but then obvious upon reflection. This is immediately apparent from the moment the needle drops, moving brusquely between 60's British invasion- style psychedelia and twangy folk melancholy, to jangly barnstormers and songs of dark, bittersweet paranoia effortlessly and naturally. Along the album's path we are treated to brief forays into tragic 50's pop a la Del Shannon, Ennio Morricone on Mars instrumentals, nods to Roger Miller, and sugary, mind-warping harmonic nuggets. Dirtnap Records' 100th release, and we couldn't have asked for a better one!

High Tension Wires is an all star Texas band featuring Mike Wiebe (Riverboat Gamblers), Mark Ryan (Marked Men), Chris Pulliam (The Reds), and Mike Throneberry (Marked Men, who on this album replaces Jeff Burke, also of the Marked Men) After numerous delays owing to the band members' busy schedules and Dirtnap's general incompetence, High Tension Wires finally release their long awaited follow up album. Midnight Cashier finds the band moving in a slightly darker, weirder, more diverse direction while keeping their tightly wound punchy 77 style punk intact. You're going to love this record, we swear.

3rd album from Dirtnap Records North Texas super-group! The current lineup of High Tension Wires features Mike Wiebe (Riverboat Gamblers), Mark Ryan (Marked Men/Mind Spiders), Chris Pulliam (The Reds), plus Daniel Fried and Greg Rutherford (both of the just-signed-to-Dirtnap The Bad Sports, the live incarnation of The Mind Spiders, and way too many other Denton bands to mention). Past lineups have included Jeff Burke and Mike Throneberry of The Marked Men. High Tension Wires originally started as an on-again-off-again recording project. Mark Ryan gave us a copy of their unfinished demo to listen to at a Marked Men show in Minneapolis in 2004, saying he didn't know if or when the recordings would ever be completed. We here at Dirtnap were so blown away that upon returning home to the NW we gave 'em a call and said that if they got themselves back in the studio and finished the recordings, we'd put it out as-is. At the time, the band had never even played a show. Those recording became their debut LP, Send A Message, a classic example of Scared-Of-Chaka-esque snappy punk/pop. In 2006 they followed that up with Midnight Cashier, a slightly darker, weirder, less straightforward take on things. Now 2011 brings us Welcome New Machine, a perfect synthesis of their previous 2 albums. Rocks as hard as Send A Message, while incorporating the nuances they began developing on Midnight Cashier. A fair amount of ground is covered here, from the Marked Men's trademark choppy pop sound to straightforward punk, to darker-edged postpunk, some new-wavey bits, and an absolutely stunning Teengenerate-style garagepunk ripper sung by Mark Ryan, all capped off by Mike Wiebe's seemingly endless font of unusual, interesting lyrics. This is by far their best album yet, and coming from us, that is saying a lot!

"This is Adam from Dirt Bike Annie's current band. Heart- breakingly great garage pop with a timeless vibe. Perfect guitar power pop to die for, beyond infectious. Check it out if ya like the Beat, Shoes, Pointed Sticks, Exploding Hearts, etc. We got tapped to release this CD a mere 3 weeks before it needed to be out. Totally worth re-arranging our release schedule to accommodate this gem! We had also said we were done with CD-only releases, but this was worth making an exception for. Vinyl on Deranged!" --Ken / Dirtnap

"Reissue of the 3rd Marked Men LP, which shows the band's pop sensibilities in full bloom. Not only are the Marked Men one of our very favorite bands of the 00's, but at this point we'd put 'em up there as one of Texas' great musical exports. Originally issued on Swami Records in 2006, this release put the Marked Men on many people's radar, and remains some folks' favorite to this day. Unfortunately, this thing has been unavailable for quite some time (especially the vinyl), so we thought we'de do you a favor and make this available once again. You can thank us later." - Ken/Dirtnap

"Blurring the rawness and velocity of their self-titled debut with the slightly more developed songwriting "chops" of the last two, the Marked Men have truly delivered the best of both worlds. Since their debut album came out on Rip Off in 2002 (reissued in 2008 on Dirtnap!), the Marked Men have established themselves as one of the best, most distinctive, compelling, and instantly recognizable punk bands of the 2000's. They're also quickly becoming one of the more influential. Despite that, you can pop the needle on "Ghosts" for 5 seconds and instantly be left without a doubt as to whom you are listening. It ain't pop-punk. It ain't power-pop. It ain't KBD or '77 style punk. At this point, the Marked Men sound like absolutely no one but themselves. The bad news is that this will be their last album for a couple of years, as co-lead vocalist/guitarist/total musical genius Jeff Burke is currently living in Japan. The good news is that the band swears they are NOT broken up, just on extended hiatus. We couldn't possibly be more honored that the Marked Men saw fit to return to our humble label, and are looking forward to doing more stuff with them (and hopefully their new, as yet unformed bands) in the coming years!" - Ken / Dirtnap

MODERN MACHINES "Take It, Somebody! (SALE PRICE ON LP!)" from Recess Records/Dirtnap
BUY LP • $4.99
BUY CD • $8.00

Milwaukee, WI's Modern Machines return with their 4th CD (after a string of cassette-only releases), first for Dirtnap, and it's easily their best one yet! True pop smarts meets classsic upper midwestern punk inspiration filtered thru modern day basement punk sensibilities. Husker Du meets early Replacements meets early Lemonheads (remember when they were good?) meets Dillinger 4 meets The Figgs? While these comparisons remain fairly apt, Take It, Somebody sees the band incorporating older and more diverse influences into their distinctive songwritingstyle, including 60's garage rock, and even a little Americana-esque twang. Heartfelt, sincere, clever songwriting from one of the hardest working bands in punk rock, who, by the sound of things, are only beginning to hit their stride. Oh yeah, and it was recorded in a basement in Milwaukee for $200. What more could you possibly want?

BUY 7" • $3.50
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

Solo pop explorations courtesy of Jeff Burke of The Marked Men! 2 tracks of lo fi pop genius, recorded on the eve of Jeff's moving to Japan. While retaining the catchiness and energy of past efforts, the songwriting here takes a turn for the reflective and bittersweet, and the tempos are slowed down a bit from the break-neck pace of your typical Marked Men song. Still rocks like crazy, though. All copies come with a download code!

PSYCHED TO DIE "Scatter Brained" from Dirtnap

PSYCHED TO DIE "Year One" from Dirtnap
BUY CD • $7.00
DOWNLOAD from iTunes

Psyched To Die practically qualify as a New Jersey punk all-star band, being composed of ex-members of The Ergs, For Science, Hunchback and a bunch more. Forget all that, though, this sounds nothing like any of those bands. (Mikey Erg is nothing if not versatile!) Starting off as a straightforward DC-meets early Touch And Go hardcore band with lyrics about as uplifting as the name would suggest, Psyched To Die's newer material slows it down just a bit and explores the area where punk and early hardcore intersect, kind of a cross between Dangerhouse and early Orange County hardcore. (if the song title "OCD Life" is not a Rikk Angew nod, it should be!) Happy-fun-time music this ain't. This is fast, dirty, bleak and negative, but still pretty darn catchy. This CD compiles the as-yet-unreleased Dirtnap 7" (patience!), the Sterile Walls 7" released on Grave Mistake/Firestarter, the 8 song demo (some of their best stuff in our humble opinion!) and may or may not include a hidden bonus track. You'll just have to buy it and find out!

  RAYDIOS, THE "Now" from Dirtnap/Mangrove
BUY LP • $9.00
BUY CD • $8.00

Our first release from a Japanese band, and we couldn't really ask for a better one than this. For those not in the know, the Raydios is Fink from the legendary Teengenerate and Firestarter's current band. This is their 2nd album, coming about 10 years (!) after their Demo LP on Screaming Apple. The CD version of Now was released by Japan's Mangrove Records last year (and is being distributed by Dirtnap in the USA), and is just now seeing the light of day on vinyl. It's been remastered for vinyl and re-mixed by Fink himself, and sounds GREAT. Musically this is no frills, crunchy, mid tempo rock n roll. Less trashy than Teengenerate, but not quite as "pop" as Firestarter, this is kinda a middle ground between the two. Total dream release for Dirtnap. Pinch us.

A dangerous romp of pool-hall jukebox metal that rivaled the Runaways straight out the gate with addictive hooks, spine- breaking basslines and brilliant songs that seemed to hit the mullet on the business end without a breather." - Brett Cross, Victim Of TIme Debut full length (following last year's awesome single comp LP/CD on Soul Is Cheap/Dirtnap) from Memphis, TN's River City Tanlines finds Alicja Trout ( Lost Sounds, Black Sunday, Mouserocket, Clears, Fitts, Contaminated Records/Mailorder etc etc etc) expanding her already extensive songwriting palate to include 80's HC, pure pop, hard rock, dirty garage rock, and much more, with hardly a keyboard (her signature in the Lost Sounds years) in sight. But the River City Tanlines isn't just Alicja Trout. It's guitar-bass-drums propelled forward by the most solid rock rhythm section of the south: John Bonds and Terrance Bishop, who have spun it with RL Burnside, T-Model Ford, Dale Hawkins, Fat Possum's Kenny Brown, Jack Oblivian's Tearjerkers, and Mr. Airplane Man's Margaret Garret.

SOMETHING FIERCE "Don't Be So Cruel" from Dirtnap Records
BUY LP • $9.00
BUY CD • $8.00

3rd album and proper Dirtnap debut (after we issued the vinyl version of their incredible, self-released 2nd CD, There Are No Answers in 2009) from Houston, TX upstarts Something Fierce. If There Are No Answers perfected the Marked Men-meets-The- Buzzcocks brand of snappy poppy punk that the band had been working on since their inception in 2005, Don't Be So Cruel finds 'em rapidly expanding outwards from that sound. While undeniably influenced by various strands of 70s punk, this record is slightly more subtle and sophisticated than mere 77- revivalists would have it. Slightly nuanced, almost understated at times, vapid party-punk this is most definitely not. Thoughtful, well written, well played songs that strike a perfect balance between fun and smart. Kinda reminds us of when the original UK bands were just starting to branch out from the punk template, but before the head-on dive into post-punk artiness. More '79 than '77, if you know what we mean.

"This is a gem of a record from start to finish - an adrenaline rush of hooks, choruses, and some of the cleverest pop writing since those BUZZCOCKS fellas picked up their guitars." - Maximum Rock N Roll "There Are No Answers is the heart of my 2009 soundtrack." - Razorcake Young kids from Houston with a rock-solid work ethic who like to tour. This band fits in perfectly on Dirtnap: it's catchy, poppy punk that's not really pop-punk, and rocks a little too hard to fit in with the power-pop (have we mentioned that we're really sick of that term?) crowd. Unbelievably catchy, well written, well played (Steven “Babyface” Garcia can play the shit out of his guitar, and bassist Nikki Seven and drummer Andrew Keith are no slouches at their respective instruments, either) poppy punk with heart, brains, and hooks. Lots of hooks. After being blown away by a stellar performance at Portland’s Plan B club back in January, we quickly came to an agreement with these guys to do a new LP in early 2010. Upon reflection, though, we realized we just couldn’t wait that long to wrap our slimy tentacles around this young band, and have decided to rush re-release their recent, self-released CD on vinyl. If there’s a catchier band in the current American punk underground, they should send us their demo! LP includes a download code! For fans of Marked Men / Buzzcocks / The Briefs Clorox Girls / Pointed Sticks!

STEVE ADAMYK BAND "Forever Won't Wait" from Dirtnap
BUY LP • $9.00
BUY CD • $8.00

The Steve Adamyk Band are a bunch of obnoxious, rowdy, "kids" from Ottawa, Ontario. While the name would automatically draw comparison to a blues, jazz or rock band given the layout, make no mistake; the Steve Adamyk Band are a punk band. The SAB play trash-pop inspired by seventies punk, the skinny tie bands of the eighties and nineties garage rock. From the ashes of Million Dollar Marxists (Gearhead Records) and Sedatives (Deranged Records), the group was born out of necessity - a whack load of orphan songs with no band to call home. Frustrated playing in bands the would eventually call it quits, Adamyk formed a band that could have an endless timeline, even if the name is outside of the standard band name zone.

We’ve been friends with these guys for awhile, and have released records by members’ old bands (New Town Animals 7” and Jeffie Genetic And The Clones CD. We were also supposed to to the 2nd New Town Animals LP/CD, but they broke up cause Stevie Kicks joined The Briefs!), so it only makes sense that we’d try and squeeze a record out of ‘em at some point. Things have been quiet record-wise in The Tranzmitors' camp the past couple of years, but now that silence has been broken! 2 more pitch-perfect mod-pop meets 70’s punk sing-a-longs, with an extremely vague phone theme going on. Great songs even by their lofty standards. All copies come with download code.

Young Governor is Ben Cook from Fucked Up. And Marvelous Darlings. And Bitters, and probably a bunch more we can't think of at the moment. Cindy’s Gonna Save Me is a fractured lo-fi pop gem, with perhaps a bit more of a 60’s influence than some Young Guv material. B side is a UK pub style smash.
